@JustinesGuy not picking on your post but it might have been better to not mention TN at all. CP generates strong emotions regardless of where she went to school. TN is hated here mainly for what TN tried to do after CP left campus. When people talk about Kara Lawson or Catch here the hatred of TN rarely, if ever, comes up.

Candace Parker! I just saw her guest star in this weeks episode of Hells Kitchen. I know she went to hated Tennessee but she seemed like the nicest, sweetest kid. Can't help but root for someone with that charisma.

Plus, who right now can hate Tennessee? It's awful what happened to the coach, the coaches son was a joke, the team stinks for a decade and the rivalry is deader than dead. For years Uconn has been heads and tails above the rest. All good right?

That just WRONG!

CP ......

...not quite. I watched about 20 Tennessee games per season when she was there and can’t recall a single time where she was bent out of shape for not getting the ball enough. By all accounts she was a great teammate. I’ve never heard anything negative about her as a teammate and she’s an incredibly unselfish player on the court. She never took bad shots like you see so many players today doing. You don’t have to be a fan, and I admit her demeanor toward the refs in the pros can be bad (athough she’s not alone in that), but to say she wasn’t a team player is just inaccurate.

On the flip side, as a UT/TN fan I’ve always had a strong dislike for Taurasi as a player, but can appreciate that she seems like an awesome person off the court. Same with Stefanie Dolson and others.

And to the original poster, thanks for the thread. I haven’t seen it and will try to find it now that I know about it.

Don't be sorry you shared.... first amendment rights and all. I'm not a doctor, but I believe all those people bottling up their aggravation over another team or player are the ones giving themselves the ulcers. Some just need to get over it and act like adults. I believe all the whining on this board has helped me put being a UCONN fan in perspective. It is just a bunch of young women playing basketball and all are entitled to go to whatever school will have them. I root for UCONN but don't cry or lose any sleep over the team. So, thank you Boneyarders for helping me keep it real. Thanks JustinesGuy for sharing a different perspective. I'm done.... does anyone need to borrow my soap box.
So don't keep it bottled up. I hate Tennessee and I'm perfectly at peace with it - no ulcers here!

To people in Tennessee, UT means Tennessee. Why is Texas more special?
(wearing Texan hat)
Because it's Texas!
Just asking the mere question is a borderline offense.

Tell that to the former USA Basketball teammates...

This sort of reminds of Lee Trevino who turned on the charm for the cameras but evidently was despised in the locker room by the other pros....

I will give her credit for always supporting the UT program and her constant glowing and supportive comments about Pat. That and the fact she is a phenomenal individual player, she gets my respect. Team player, still not sure about...
I'd be a phenomenal player too if the refs escorted me to the foul line eighty times a game.

There will always be reasons for disliking Tennessee based on the spurious NCAA complaint and comments from their fans concerning Maya's recruitment

It wasn't my intention to give any props to the state of Tennessee nor its WCB program. It was my intention to celebrate a WCB player that seemed to shine on a Tv show I like to watch. I was just trying to say something positive. I really appreciate all the reaction both positive and negative. That's what a board is all about.

Forgiveness comes after confession. I'm with Geno- let the Tennessee administration apologize first, then we'll talk.

Apologize for what? Pat was ill and probably undergoing some mental issues. I used to watch her pressers and how she railed on the players way beyond even Geno type insults. Then I found some old pressers and she was tough but she did not throw players under the bus. She was not insulting beyond reason. Be petty isn't becoming.

They're not. Also, in SC, USC means the University of South Carolina. I have two first cousins that are Gamecock alums.

Okay, here's the deal @JustinesGuy. I give you Gordon's risotto recipe and prep secrets, you stop bringing up Candace Parker. How can I make risotto like Hell's Kitchen? - Home Cooking - Risotto - Chowhound

PS. Can't stand Risotto either.

Yo

I've taken a bit of a beatin for laying much of Pat's negative action on Alzheimers--because people don't know the disease. In some it is really quick. In some it has symptoms years earlier if you look for them--most don't know what to look for. It robs intelligent people of their brains, memories, thought processes--then it destroys the body.

You have to look at her previous actions , months or years prior.
I shall always give Pat Summit credit for helping Geno put Uconn on the MAP. A big TV game was being set up --NC was asked to play GENO at Storrs--they refused. Pat was asked and she said : Yes, I'll play anyone anywhere to foster the women's game. She lost that game. The big time Tn Vols helped an up and coming UConn to get USA wide recognition--you have to give that some points.
Oldude I liked every word of your last paragraph--. A fact of life: Time wounds all heals.
Both my Grandfather and father had Alzheiners, my Grandfather was one of the first to ever be diagnosed with it, before that they just blamed it on aging. I would not want to have anyone go through it because my Grandfather had it for almost 5 years before he finally passed away. My father was a lot less, a little more than 2 years.

Then I found some old pressers and she was tough but she did not throw players under the bus. She was not insulting beyond reason. Be petty isn't becoming.

Take a look at her comments after they lost to Melanie Balcomb's Xavier team in the NCAA's, early 2000's. She was pissed, and entirely threw her whole team under the bus. It was all their fault...nothing to do with coaching. Her remarks were pretty scathing.

What happened to her was certainly tragic. I have sympathy for her and her family having to go through that, but I'm not about to excuse her for the ridiculous attempts she made to smear our program with innuendo just because she was pissed that Maya turned her down.

I think Theresa Grentz said it best after her Illinois team got clocked by Tenn. and UCONN during a relatively brief stretch of their schedule one season. Pat used a full court press against them in the last couple minutes of a game they already led by 50+ points. When asked about it after the UCONN game, her response was, "Geno is a gentlemen", inferring a lack of respect for Pat's late game tactics, which resulted in running up an already bloated score. Pat's response after their game was that it gave her a chance to work on their full court press. Really?
