Interesting that you included Charles. If I recall, she didn't "come into her own" until 3/4 of the way through her Junior year?
IF you recall we are already half way through this season!

Stef, Bria, Stewie vs Abrosimova, Bird, Taurase, and Charles.

Wow.

Bria was an AA as Sophomore.

Stef has reshaped her body, runs the floor exceptionally well and is a much better player than last year and the year before.

Not sure what your expectations are for Stewart but if 14 points and 7 rebounds a game is not good enough as a freshman, you will never be satisfied.

I won't even comment on the four players you mentioned that you say developed more quickly other than to say that one ended up as the best point guard in the world and one the best player in the world and right now, one the best center in the world.

Maybe they are just more skilled...

I think your medical degree is great. But you have a 7th grade education in WCBB.

Ummm no we're not. Not even halfway through the regular season, let alone BE and NCAA tourney.

Between the poor spelling, and the fact that he doesn't know how to spell Taurasi, I'm beginnning to doubt anything Sal says, including the degree and the claim of team loyalty.

Well, would you call him a troll, in that case?

I would like to think that you people would concede from my explanations on medical issues that I'm no fraud. Also have been watching UConn non stop since 1995 on CPTV. No troll just not a rah rah like some of you. There are things that one can be "objective about. In regards to spelling blame spell check and poor typing skills!

Many of us have been watching since then. Only a few of us think we know more about Geno and coaching. And even fewer of us think we know more than the UConn medical staff.

Not rah rah? Then why root for a team?

WE are talking UConn all the current freshmen were rated amongst the highest in their class. I have said in previous posts that Stef has worked hard and has improved her stamina and endurance but our team problem is rebounding, rebounding, rebounding both offensive and defensive. Coach has said so!!!!!!
In regards to Stewie's play I feel she is playing out of her natural position. I believe in HS she played high post ergo all the 3's and drives to the basket. I know a little bit about BBall.
In regards to Bria I have already said I think she has a confidence problem. She may also allow Teflon Diggins to intimidate her and then she gets down on herself!!!!

I do but when something is wrong it is best not to bury one's head in the sand.

Oh, absolutely because everything you read on the Internet is true.

I taped the game and watched it later. Meghan said several times that Stef needs to spend less time in the high post and perimeter, and more time on the low block looking to score. I think she mentioned it at least 3 times and maybe more. I wonder if Geno actually listens to announcers like that and if he sees the same things that everyone else does. Stef is indeed a terrific passer and has a ton of assists for a post player, but when you play a team who can't stop your center, you need to go to her over and over and over again.

Meghan was flat wrong about quite a bit of her commentary during the game, which is a problem since it colors people's perceptions of the game. I certainly hope Geno isn't seeing what Meghan sees because I'd like to think he actually knows what UConn is actually trying to accomplish.

It would be great if Stef could catch the ball three feet from the basket and she needs to work to accomplish that, but it is not as simple as telling your center to go to the low post. You actually need to be able to pass it to that center, because actually entering the ball into the post tends to be a turnover prone endeavor, especially when a team is packing the paint like Georgetown. And to get the ball into the low post oftense involves getting the ball to the high post first. And UConn currently only has four players capable of consistently making the post entry pass or even see the opportunity to make the entry pass , and Dolson is one of them.

WE are talking UConn all the current freshmen were rated amongst the highest in their class.

And they are all contributing when healthy. And 14 games in you are complaining about them not improving enough? That is just dumb.

I have said in previous posts that Stef has worked hard and has improved her stamina and endurance but our team problem is rebounding, rebounding, rebounding both offensive and defensive. Coach has said so!!!!!!

Yes, they can rebound better. What does that have to do with improving? Stef is better than she was and is still improving. And they are still rebounding better than 10+ against their tough schedule. And I remember an NC game against Tennessee where UConn has been outrebounded and won by double digits. The game is scored by points, not rebounds.

In regards to Stewie's play I feel she is playing out of her natural position. I believe in HS she played high post ergo all the 3's and drives to the basket.

So, Geno doesn't know where to play Stewart? And you do? Really?

I know a little bit about BBall.

Clearly, very little.

In regards to Bria I have already said I think she has a confidence problem. She may also allow Teflon Diggins to intimidate her and then she gets down on herself!!!!

You finally said something that might be true. She seems to need to get her confidence back. Intimidated by Diggins? I'm sick of that talk. Sure, Hartley is struggling, but as a medical doctor, maybe you know if she is 100%.

I do but when something is wrong it is best not to bury one's head in the sand.
So is all this durm und strang because Bria has been slow recovering from her injury and Breanna, a freshman, is in a slump? It's not surprising Stewart is struggling; she's living in a hotel during winter break, away from her family at the holidays for the first time, and bearing the weight of the entire fandom of Connecticut, including pompous know-it-alls who sit in their Lazy-boy and bitch that the kid isn't playing hard enough.

As I've pointed out numerous times, the team usually plays poorly in January for the reasons listed above and the younger the team, the worse the effects. This team is really young and immature in a lot of ways. It will be a few more week before they push through the wall.

Breanna didn't play the "high post" in high school. As Geno would say she played wereever the hell she wanted to on offense. Most of the 3's and drives came in transition and she certainly wasn't making high-low passes in HS because there was no other post. It is nothing like playing the high post the way the UConn offense demands.

Eventually that will be her position, but she is clearly not ready for it yet. She doesn't know the offense well enough to have it run through her. She can't anticipate what is going to happen yet. Having Stef fighting for position in the low post, while turning the ball over or getting a bad shot trying to run the offense through Breanna in the high post doesn't help UConn either.

Where Breanna is playing out of position right now is defense when she's on the floor with Dolson or Stokes. For the people that disagreed with me this summer that perimeter defense is harder to learn as a freshman than post defense, I hope you've been watching. She can't just stand in the middle of lane anymore and be 6'4", and the stress of playing defense and getting consistently beat has affected her play in my opinion. She's got to learn how to play it so she can be on the floor more, but it is a process. Freshman guards other than Kelly Faris are almost universally awful at perimeter defense no matter how athletic they are and they've grown up playing perimeter defense. Like with the high post Breanna has to learn it because she needs to be able to play with Stef and Kiah, but it is a process.

As a follow up to DD's point on rebounding, UConn defeated Tenn in Final Four games in 2000, 2002, 2003 and 2004 and was out-rebounded by the LVs in each of those games. In 2003, Tenn grabbed 18 more rebounds than UConn and UConn still won the game.

With a few exceptions, UConn teams have not been great at rebounding yet have managed to win some championships. I'm sure Geno and the coaches are trying to get the players to do a better job on the boards.

Actually, your comments on medical issues make me think you are in fact a fraud.

Well said. I would also point out that most post players need a couple of years to develop. Asjha Jones and Tina Charles, for example, were highly regarded, highly ranked high schoolers but both still needed a solid 2+ years to become dominant.
