He has achieved something that is very rare indeed. He got his coaching start under JC at UConn and maintained a relationship with him through his entire coaching career. Calhoun (and Coach Blaney) helped him get his first job on the Holy Cross staff.

Daigneault is as much of a UConn product as any past player. This is his basketball cradle. He is an alum. I think he should be invited back, celebrated, and put on the wall.

Sure, why not. Probably can’t hurt to link us to an NBA title winning coach and I’m all for free publicity for the university but wasn’t he the student manager, ie not really a coach? Pretty amazing career path nonetheless.

I'm a meh at it. Wouldn't complain either way. Your average fan would probably say "who --- is Daigenault?" But raising NBA connections profile is never a bad thing.

About 80% of the time people suggest a name for the HoH I laugh to myself. This one is just so different it's hard to know. Completely different standard for a hanging than anyone else on the wall

A lot depends on if we want to see 6 degrees of UConn Huskies reach to form the UConn nation.

Planting seeds at Holy Cross, Rutgers, etc, is good for influence reasons, but you'll have some people on both sides of that fence.

You can honor him but no can't just put anyone on the wall of honor because they accomplished something at the NBA level.
And isn't the Husky of Honor Wall for what they did at UConn? I didn't think it had anything to do with NBA careers.

Is Calhoun up there? He won 3 National Championships as a coach. Is Hurley up there? He won 2 National Championships as a coach. If they're not up there for coaching at UConn then why would a coach who won a championship in the NBA be up there?

Rip won an NBA championship and so did Caron but I'm pretty sure they are up on the wall because of what they did at UConn.

They'd have to completely change the requirements to include Daigneault on the wall. It's a cute idea but it's a hard no for me.

We're gonna need a bigger wall if this is the bar....

Maybe a mention, picture and plague in the building somewhere. Imagine if he got his start at Rutgers. Lol. Imagine what they would do.

Right it would be incredibly cheesy to put Daigneault on the wall of honor.

Really, how many former UConn Huskies have been the head coach of an NBA champion?

BTW, Calhoun is on the wall (and should be).

It’s always nice when UConn basketball can associate itself with elite basketball accomplishments. But, to be honest, I would struggle to name the last 10 NBA championship teams, let alone their coaches. I’m not sure what the staying power of this is.

I’m not taking away from his achievement or his story, because it’s a good one. It would be like Kimani’s son Khaliq one day coaching himself to an NBA title.

Agreed. But not on the wall. That should be for accomplishments at UConn.
Definitely not on the Wall/Huskies of Honor but do something really nice for him in the facility to honor his accomplishments to show the current players and possible future players.

From what I read Calhoun is close with him and talks to him regularly. Bring them back together for a game to honor him. It would be cool for Hurley to bring him in to speak to the team and be a part of a couple practices.

Thunder are also more stable than most franchises. But track record for nba championship coaches ain’t good. Nick Nurse, Frank Vogel, Budenholzer, Malone all fired with two years of a title. Mazulla on a short leash in Boston.

Tough sport. Maybe he can be future head coach here.

Depends on if he is still somewhat involved and donates.
lol.
If he donates name a cafeteria after him. Or some food item. When i was at uconn they had something called "o'brien potatoes" never heard of them before or after. possibly named after uconn assistant soccer coach Carey o'brien. Who apparently likes potatoes.

IMO he deserves a little showcase in Werth. This is an accomplishment very few schools can connect to, and showing the breadth and success of UConn beyond the Storrs campus is a big deal.
Right. He’s another brick in the foundation as to why we get to proclaim Basketball Capital of the World.
