Do we know who is the starting QB this week?

I honestly don't expect any changes at QB once the depth chart comes out, and the game is played Sat. There is nothing I understand about our offense, other than Diaco has been remarkably consistent with it. But anything is possible I suppose.

Batten down the hatches...

Back to FB this week. No changes on UConn Depth Chart from previous weeks. Not an indicator things will be the same.

Are you really surprised? I'm not. I would have been, if there were depth chart changes. Remains to be seen what we do in the game Saturday, but honestly - why do anything different now?

There is still the possibility that this team produces another late season win streak. Late season win streaks, are not unusual for UCONN football - even in our worst years. To change everything now?

Whatever. We'll see what happens Sat night. I don't have any concrete feelings on this as of now, it's weird. Anything goes. I get the feeling that sooner or later, there is a level of pissed off that needs to take hold, and the players simply take the field with the attitude that it's 1 game, and it's our home field, and they want to simply beat the snot of their opponent, and there is this feeling I have, that no matter how much the players want to do that, the flow of the game, planning, calls of offense and defense, won't have them in position enough to do it.

We could come out and stomp the crap out of Cincy in jaw gaping fashion, if everything clicks, or we could just as easily lose in jaw gaping fashion, if nothing clicks - or anywhere in between. Should be a fun ride, hopefully on the winning side.

Yes, and that's a huge reason, going forward.

I'm not in Palatine's court (yet), but it's a fair rebuttal to your statement above. What has CW done to warrant additional playing time? His performance, at some point, comes into question, especially when keeping someone on the bench that is going to be here past this year. Also, we're not playing for anything but improvement, at this point.

Other than to date reasonable people would agree that he gave them a better chance to win week to week... nothing.

Oh and that horrible lower leg injury Boyle has been struggling with.

Yeah, if Boyle were on the Mets, that thing would have been amputated already. Hope it's not contagious.

.-.
I just don't get this....what does this do for this team? What does having a "chance" to win in the final 3 games do for this team? Does it really flipping matter if we win anymore games this year or is it more important that we see what we might have next year? I know it's been said over and over that Boyle might not even be in Diaco's plans but why not at least let the kid play and try and force his way into the plans for 2015?? I just don't get this call.

I guess I don't see what value having the chance to win in a lost season does versus preparing for a WINNING season next year....We all want this team to win but it's not like Whitmer is lighting the world on fire.....

Ok I'm done ranting. Had to get it out of my system. Everyone have at it.

1) Yes, it matters if we win. It matters in terms of recruiting battles in the next 2 years. It matters in terms of morale. It matters in terms of building all of the other positions that rely on better QB play (i.e., OLine or WR).

2) Playing Boyle an extra 40 series does not necessarily mean that he will improve that much from it. Might he improve enough to have it make a difference next year? Maybe. Maybe not. But that's why I'm a big believer in playing the best player at each position, period.

If Boyle is the best player next year, so be it. If he's not, so be it. I'm rooting for the kid, and nothing would make me happier than him having it all come together and lighting up the field. But up to this point, he clearly has not been our #1 QB, and call me selfish, but I still want to win...

I'm confused. It's late, and I've had a lot. Cliff Stoudt?

Is this a type of beer? I'll try it.

Generally, when things don't make sense to us it's because we are missing key points of information. In this case, when it comes to decision making on playing time, there are things that we don't, and shouldn't, know. As a possibility, and from a purely speculative perspective, let's consider that HCBD might prioritize establishing the relationship he wants to have with his players. Some head coaches want to be aloof, but that is obviously not BD's style, he's an emotional guy. It could be that it's important to him to demonstrate things like two-way loyalty and rewarding character, especially given marginal differences in performance. These would be crucial aspects of the cultural repairs he talks about. I have no evidence that this is what's happening, but I kind of hope that it is. It's why, as fans, you have to trust the coach until you don't. We're never gonna know what the locker room dynamics are.

Yeah ditto this and he does appear to have great relationships with his players and his recruits. Like the rebuilding of the program, HCBD is also a work in progress.

well, to be fair, it's kinda like picking the best US president of the 21st Century
