Isn't that a protected historical site? That's why nobody can touch it with a 10 foot pole with all the expense that would go into restoring the buildings.

Large area of land. IMHO, there’s NFW a prospective stadium developed on land near the ex-Mansfield Training Facility buildings would incorporate buildings unoccupied for decades. IIRC, all are decaying structures and some are rife with asbestos.

Not sure, but it makes little sense to put a stadium in the depot campus when there are three potential sites on the physical campus.

Absolutely! Well, except to the athletes, coaches, and students. To them it is decidedly inconvenient.

But really, why place any emphasis on them at all if it inconveniences people west of Hartford by making them drive an extra 30 minutes six times a year?

No shiite, particularly barring any currently unlikely newly reconstituted ACC or Big XII invitation .Point remains, a homecoming (key word) not located on an actual campus remains less likely to entice alumni showing up for any university alma mater. Football fans, and non-football fans alike. In particular, shockingly for out of state alumni less convenient to any CT location. /s

Yup, a significantly scaled back autonomous vehicle testing facility. Partnership between Guilford’s Promesa Capital and the School of Engineering for about 4% of the ex-training center facility’s 350 acres.

Originally proposed for 105 acres; dramatically scaled down to 15 acres. BoT agreed to sell the 15 acres in Sept 2024.

No doubt, but it is decidedly inconvenient to the coaches, players, and students. Both Hurley and Geno are on record as referring to play in Gampel.

Sorry, but do you think Mansfield will allow UConn to build an on campus stadium? Do you think Coventry will let the state expand Route 44? The traffic to Mansfield will be horrible. Mansfield will never allow it.

If UConn got an on campus stadium, what should be done with Rentschler? Should it be torn down or use as another venue? How big of a stadium should be built, if we got into the Big 12?

Now, one of the football site looks as if there is a subdivision nearby? I'm not sure if Mansfield citizens would let UConn build it in people's backyard.

Route 44 would be made into a 4 lane highway. Again, let's say UConn built a 55K stadium, the logistics of traffic would be a nightmare. I'm not sure if Route 6 (aka Suicide 6) from Bolton to Willimantic ever got fixed.

I'm still not sure about on campus stadium but I need to research it.

I think you're referring to the site in the athletic campus. There are no approvals needed from Mansfield Township for development at that site. So, while undoubtedly that people's republic of Mansfield could NIMBY to their hearts content, they basically be shouting into the wind.

Well, as I'm fond of saying, somehow pretty much every other FBS program in America somehow manages to get people on and off their campus for football games without building a super highway to the front gate. I suspect we could as well. People seem to assume that everyone in the football stadium would arrive at the same time and leave at the same time. That's not the real world. Tailgating allows traffic to be feathered in and out of the stadium over hours rather than all at the same time. That an intelligent traffic management would be enough to handle the crowd six times a year... just like it is it pretty much every other on campus college football stadium in America.

Rte 6 is definitely suicide highway. My cousin nearly got killed over there back in our college days. Somehow her entire car was totalled except for where she sat (driver's seat). She only suffered a leg fracture and a few bumps and bruises. (Thank God)

I’m confident Uconn would consistently pack the Rent if they had several ranked conference opponents on the schedule every year. Season ticket sales alone would increase by multiples.

It’s been mentioned that attendance is a chicken or egg argument when it comes to a P4 invite for UConn. Those who oppose it are going to continue to argue they don’t deserve an invite because they don’t consistently fill the Rent. But it’s an unrealistic and unfair expectation given their current lack of conference affiliation & quality of schedule.
 
my surely-flawed take:
  • CT is showing up to the rent, about as well as can be expected for our recent history and current level of opponents coming to the rent. We are getting better, and seeing 25-30K people at a game is reflective of that. We could be playing in front of 8-12K - just imagine those optics. So... thankful for those who do come and show that uconn is not a complete waste of their fall saturday.
  • CT will show up again to pack the rent vs. P4 opponents, if we have a realistic shot to win those games. right now, we don't. I don't expect a packed rent to see current UConn vs. an Ole Miss or similar. UMass had Missouri at home recently, and it still looked like... a UMass game. Meaning, we'd still get ~25K, i think.
  • we are doing the right thing chasing WINS right now, even if the competition is CUSA or AAC. If our talent budget is a G6 budget, then that's just what we are; a G6. It's not good or bad; it just IS. You schedule accordingly - there's no point in going 1-11 against a "gorgeous" schedule, with the sole win being against Yale or CCSU - we've seen that movie.
  • we should not FILL the schedule with P4s until we are in a P4 ourselves, UNLESS by some miracle we've established our NIL infrastructure to the point where talent-wise, we are absolutely manhandling G6's for multiple years prior to that decision to shift the scheduling philosophy. By manhandling, I mean going 8-0, 7-1 consistently every year against a G6 slate. Ideally by 2+ touchdowns each time, but a win is a win.
 
Our stadium is visible from space! well at least the 2 logistical warehouses are. If that's not college gameday material right there, I don't know what is

Taken to scale, it sure looks like we can not only put in a stadium but have plenty of parking (not to mention all the student/commuter parking already available). Anyway, an on campus stadium will not bring a P4 invite for us.

No, a stadium won't get us an invite, but an invite might get a stadium.

Nice work on the side-by-side pictures. I don't think anyone would physically put it on horse barn Hill, but maybe just behind it in the UConn Forest. Can you do the same thing using the athletic campus as the comparison?
