First rule of marketing is to know your audience and realte to them...hip hop trash might work for a small few in the stands , but not for the vast majority. Having a faux Bronx style DJ talkin trash ain't Connecticut. And, beleive me, the music selection ain't bringing in more of the greatest student section in country.

How these guys can be so off the mark is stunning.

That's exactly the point I was trying to make. Either stick with the band or play music that reflects the audience, which is mostly surburbanites.

I don't mind the music as much as the hooting and hollering. If they had someone in a Michael Buffer-esque tone saying "Let's hear it for your UConn Huskies" it would be one thing, but the DJ's whiny calls sound more a judge calling for audience applause to determine who wins the Prettiest Hog Contest at a county fair.

I was at the Cincy game, and the whole game day vibe sucked imho - but it's very fixable as well. A few humble suggestions:

* Open the place (at least!) one hour earlier. Five+ hours of tailgating would give folks less excuses to not be on time into the stadium, plus alleviate the 'burden' of squeezing all that tailgating into such a relatively small time frame. Keep in mind that the folks down south don't force their fans to shoehorn all their pregame festivities into a 4-hour time window, and somehow it works for them. We're allegedly an SEC-type fanbase, so why not do a bit of that up here?

* Can the DJ. To me (and to a lot of the folks I was around in sec. 204-104) it just doesn't jibe with the game taking place. By the 4th quarter we just wanted him to shut up and go home. It. Just. Doesn't. Fit.

* More UCMB, but please lose the mics. We truly have one of the top marching bands in the country, and I'm not just saying that as a former bandhead - they're damn good. But unless you have 50 or less members, a band using live microphones to be heard in the stands is just not big-time. Just BLOW, UCMB. Please!

* Bon Jovi, Sandstorm and?...: 'Livin' On A Prayer' at the end-of-3rd qtr is a keeper. Sandstorm works great after big plays in the 4th qtr. But if (hopefully) the DJ gets canned, a classic Hip-Hop song or beat should be worked in somehow - kinda like what Wisky does with 'Jump Around'. Maybe we could do 'Hypnotize' or 'Insane In The Brain' or something. All I know is it would be a lot of fun.

Somehow, some way, change must happen. I'm planning on upping my (admittedly pathetic) fandom for next season; the least the AD can do is upping their game experience. They can start by canning that infernal DJ. Ugh...

Remember all those people complaining about the team starting each game with this....
No? me neither. He plays as much pop as anything else, you guys are just crotchety old whiny bastards. If we went 12-0 nobody would give a what he played.

I don't know why you guys think you speak for everyone. I've seen as many old white guys up and dancing to Gagnam Style as anyone else.

Ideally a college football game should have a college football atmosphere, but it seems like we're still a long way from that, so playing the occasional pop, rock, hip-hop & techno music is fine. It helps gets the crowd riled up, young & old - Sandstorm, Gangnam Style, etc. Welcome to the Jungle has become a mainstay on 3rd down, even a virtual necessity to pry people off their fannies to stand up & cheer.

But the DJ's gotta go. Enough. It's making a product that's struggling to not look bush league look even more bush league.

I'm sure he can find work at some local nightclubs, just stay away from the Rent.
