I’m a Wisconsin fan (currently living in Connecticut), and obviously Stone would be a massive get for the Badgers, or anyone at all, really. Problem is, I see this process playing out in a very similar way to a lot of other recruiting battles Bo Ryan’s been involved with. The parents almost always love Bo. He’s very old school, he’s very direct and he doesn’t play games with recruiting. He’s usually VERY selective about who he goes after, and I think this year is a very good example of that.
Right now, Wisconsin has as many as six scholarships available for this class, including the one commit we already have. But for the remaining five spots, there are only six extended scholarships, and even though we’re in the final group for most of them, none of them appear to be locks. It seems a bit risky, but we Wisconsin fans have learned to trust Bo in pretty much every aspect of how he runs his program (plus we figure at least one or two of those will go to 2016 players). And we’re hopeful that this can be the breakthrough recruiting class we’ve never been able to get before. Each of the players Wisconsin has offered would be among the best we’ve gotten in some previous recruiting classes. Getting Stone would be pretty much unprecedented for us.
But as I was saying, getting the kind of lip service that we’re getting from Stone’s dad is pretty familiar to us. And the kid winds up at the blueblood program even as they sing the praises of Bo and Wisconsin. I would be delightfully surprised if this goes differently.
Nonetheless, we can all agree that Maryland and its slutty UA alignment doesn’t deserve him.
