If you go to a place like Maya and look at his efficiency rankings, he's 8th on Uconn right now. Reibe is actually 9th. So he's definitely not lighting it up. To compare to let's say Arizona, Burris and Peat are up at 6.79 and close to 6, where Mullins is around 3. He has shown some flashes of what he can do, but that's about it. He's not producing consistently or efficiently right now. It's going to take some time. Thanks goodness for the Big East.
 
I think the best way of putting it is if Mullins ends the season with his current averages, he’s probably fighting to get into the lottery at best.

His lottery status is dependent on shooting 40% from 3, he’ll average 12-14 if he does, and it’ll confirm his status as the best shooter in the class.

Think taller Reed Sheppard. I think Sheppard shot around 45% from three.
 
If you told me Solo would not play and AK and Stewart had injuries from the last game and Demary was gonna be sick I would have thought we would lose.

Luckilly only Solo was out and AK went off and Stewart played and Demary left and came back with a great stat line.

Gonna need our A game at X and at least we hopped Duke!

A game vs Xavier? They stinketh. They just got beat by Creighton by 40 at home.

We have nothing but crud coming up. I don't expect any of these teams to stay within double digits. We should have no problems beating any of DePaul, Xavier, Marquette, PC, Gtown by double digits home and away.

Creighton, Butler, Seton Hall, Nova, StJ might be challenges on the road. Maybe.

Our next loseable game is at SHU.

Thanks for this. All you have to do here is suggest something other than what everybody wants to hear and away we go. I love this Mullins kid but I don’t see NBA today. As good as he is, maybe by the end of the season. I hope not but maybe.

Are you sure you dare to say this? Some how my comments have been interpreted to mean that I don’t think this kid has great talent which is absolutely wrong. He does but he needs time to grow and mature.

He'd likely be rolling out there with 4 guys he already knows too - lineup could be Demary/Solo/Mullins/Stew/Reibe. That would be slam dunk number 1 team in the country.

There is a compelling reason to come back, obviously if he's guaranteed lottery this year you do kinda have to go.

He will soon play in the NBA. He needs to get bigger, stronger and quicker if he is gong to make a difference on day one. He has skills that most players dream about and he will get there for sure. I hope he is paid to stick around one more year so that we can all make Bird-like comparisons here.

Outside of Kansas, his best game has been 12 points. Wouldn’t say he’s had big games.

This is kind of Mullins main competition for the shooter lottery spot. He’s also 6’6 and slight. Averaging like 15 a game.

This is another guy who’s behind Mullins in the current mock. The competition is so stiff for that lottery spot this year.

He's behind Carr at Baylor, who's having a blowout year. They really pushed some frosh down, like Cenac and Thomas.

I would argue the Texas and Butler games were both very good all around games. It's not all about points

He hasn't been great every game, you might notice I already said that. But for us UConn fans we've seen a few good games. I know for non-UConn fans like yourself that's tough to grasp
 
Mullins is going to have a half where he scores 20 (or close). It will just happen because it can. They have been scouting this kid since he was a sophomore. The NBA knows what he is.

I agree. He's going to have a super explosive 30 point outing very soon. He scores in bunches in a really special way. Once he stops committing stupid fouls and learns the offense a little better, he will dominate.

Oh, but that wasn't an injury. Seeing how careful they are with head injuries these days, and how conservative the training staff is with injuries, if there was even remotely a chance Karaban was dealing with anything they would have held him out of the DePaul game. So there was no injury and you can't mention it in your post. See what I mean? Stewart's injury was supposedly legit but he was able to play.

what Michigan is doing is impressive. By any metric. Full stop. My only counter argument is this: we present a matchup problem for Michigan that is unique to UConn. That is the genius of the Hurley and Co. system. It is darn hard to guard us when you have not seen us before. And now that we are playing D at a top 10 level, I like our chances against anyone, including Michigan. I do not think this is homerism, although I am a proud homer. I think this is objective analysis based on the problems that we pose teams.

All due respect, but Demary is leading the Big East in assists per game and is #26 in the nation in assist%. Smith is a touch behind at #61. In 2024, Newton was at #49 and Diarra was #421

Meh. Clingan flashed, but still averaged only 13 mpg. Mullins is already at 20 mpg and 25+ in the last 3

Like you've said, if you are paying attention watching this team and also take into context the fact that we've had a lot of roster variance, this team is WAYYYY better than KP #23 on offense. I'm a stats nerd and it's obvious to me.

Kinda like the difference between a slow start in the first 10 minutes, or playing with the efficiency they played with over the last 30 minutes (outscored Depaul 65-29), or the difference between being without your top scorer or not ??

Which is not to say that every team doesn't have those same issues
