DePaul Post Game Thread

Hurley has already called him the next one and done so that’s the main thing that makes me think it’s not likely.

But I hope we don’t force it. He has a lot of things that he should clean up before making the jump.

It’s early so it’s completely possible he progresses enough by the end of the season. But I don’t think he’s as physically ready and able to get his own like Liam and Castle were instantly before him.
The handsiness defensively is definitely one. He has a major tendency to stick his hands in while defending.

Nah, I think everyone knows what’s Peterson is already. He can sit the rest of the season and go top 3. He’s shown enough. Haha
Sure, but the same goes Mullins in the top ten to mid first. He's not DP caliber of course. DP can be anywhere between pick 1 and 3 based on how he plays this season. Mullins is probably 10 through 25 or so.

No argument there, there are a ton of freshmen having great seasons and Mullins is a step below them. Just seems weird to ignore the clear talent right in front of you on the team you supposedly root for, because a step below all time great college freshman is still a surefire 1st round and almost certain lottery pick
he's a step behind them, not below. He is still getting his legs under him, physically and in our complex system. Boozer and Dybantsa(sp?) are physically beasts as well as talented. Mullins isn't going to overpower you. He is money around the basket giving away 4-8 inches. Give him a month.

If his season ended today I don’t think he put enough on tape to be a lottery pick or anywhere they projected him.

That’s not the case with DP.

To the drooling, there are some freshmen doing some ridiculous things this year. Boozer, AJD, Brown, Wilson, Peat.

Right now Mullins falls into the DP camp of hasn't been out there long enough and integrated enough to get a real feel for him.

DP is prb the #2 pick at worst. He's already proven he's a potential star. NBA ppl have been watching some of these kids since HS so they are well aware of their skillset. Mullins is below those listed based on playing time and that those other guys are the clear #1 option on their teams. I think we all knew Mullins was in the 2nd tier of the incoming freshmen based on his ratings, etc. But that doesn't diminish the FACT that Mullins has physical talent and ability as a scorer that we have not had here in a long, long time. Yes, he needs more time to acclimate and put it all together. But he's Hawkins level as a shooter, has a fade away mid range game like few we've EVER had, and already has shown passing ability (especially cross court) that is elite for a kid so young and playing solely on instinct. We have a really special player who is only going to get better. I think any notion that he still has to prove he's a OAD is beyond idiotic. I mean teams are face-guarding him already. They're not doing that with any of other guys. It's very clear that he is an elite talent. My advice is start drooling and recognize what we have before its too late.

Mullins has shown flashes of his talent already. He has great feel for the game, a beautiful quick jumpshot, has shown the ability to be a 3 level scorer, etc.

But they’ve been flashes. By the end of the season I’d like to see him show it consistently and at will. If he’s still up and down I’d like to see him come back to hone those great skills he has to show it consistently.

He had an opportunity to show his stuff today and was pretty disappointing against one of the bottom teams of the conference.

NBA lottery picks are young and show potential . BM has both. Have seen mock drafts (still early) with GSW taking him at 15. They like shooter/scorers. BM is a shooter/scorer.. Enjoy him while he grows in front of your eyes game-to-game. Pretty sure Danny has been getting calls on him from scouts. Another UConn one and done.

Less concerned about one and done and more concerned about being ready.

Clingan showed plenty of potential after his freshman year. Could’ve declared if he wanted to. Came back and was a top 10 pick (would’ve went 5 if teams needed a center).

Would rather Mullins comes back to be a top 5-10 pick ready for the league than rush to be a mid-late first rounder to be able to say he was a OAD.

I wish people would just be transparent and say I'm a UConn basketball fan so all I care about is my personal enjoyment so I hope Braylon Mullins comes back. I'd respect that opinion instead of twisting yourself in knots about the time Tom Lagarde came back for his senior season and was still a lottery pick in 1977

Plenty of time for growth/development over the next 3 months or so. BE season/BET/NCAA Tournament games. Plenty of time to move up mock draft projections. He is an elite shooter with excellent athleticism/BBIQ. Fits the current NBA business model for lottery picks based on youth and potential. Danny knows-NBA knows.

And I'm a UConn BB fan

He's univerally projected as an easy top 15 pick and once he "gets" the system, that will probably only go up. Why on Earth would he return?

I want 1 or 2 like him every year. Help us win and go to the NBA, it’s a beautiful process when done correctly. Dan Hurley and staff do it the right way!

Normally I would think it was a joke but for some reason pickle juice has become very popular with kids (young adults) these days.
Pickle juice supposedly prevents cramping. That plus electrolytes makes me think that either he was starting to cramp up or wanted to make sure that he wouldn't.

This kind of post seems so performative when there’s a 2023 Clingan example being used.

If he develops the consistency needed, then by all means make the jump. Just hope we don’t force it for the sake of having a one and done.

He very well could if he stuck around as the difference between the upcoming draft and the one thereafter is night and day. He could legitimately go top 5 in the following. I've made this argument before. He's going to be on a partial year and has a lot of growing to do. If we threw him a sizeable NIL, could it make sense to stick around for another year, put some weight on, refine the game with a top staff.

He'd likely be rolling out there with 4 guys he already knows too - lineup could be Demary/Solo/Mullins/Stew/Reibe. That would be slam dunk number 1 team in the country.

There is a compelling reason to come back, obviously if he's guaranteed lottery this year you do have to go. One can dream.

Well anyways, about the DePaul game.

I thought Ross had a nice rebounding night. If he makes one of those 3's, the box score would look a whole lot better too. Happy to see him shooting about 35% from 3 this season, a huge improvement from last year. It's important for us this year that one of him and Stewart are on, since they both seem to be a little bit hot and cold

I thought we had a good rebounding night in general, which was a major concern in quite a few of our tight OOC games.
