I know we are looking at best case scenarios. But we just went down to the wire in our first two conference games, including overtime at home with Xavier, so it’s hard to figure we won’t stumble a couple times along the way. Maybe we can hit another gear if Solo or Aidan (or both) have a leap from their current form into more consistent scorers, but we need to see it.

I’d say we are more likely to be a 5 than a 1, given the lack of quality win potential in the BE and the ample opportunity for bad losses. But as long as we seem to be peaking around then, we can just let it rip and see what happens. Florida was an NIT team in 2008, so you have to go back to 1993 for the last time anyone defended back to back titles. And if we end up a 5 or a 6, hey, we can also go for seedagami (we’ve won as a 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7).

Gonna be real tough to get a 1 seed without a signature OOC win but a 2 seed in the East is still in play and I’d sign up for that right now. Seems like Hurley settled on a 9 man rotation going into Xmas break. I’m sure they’ve been in the gym working on D and are now ready to tear thru the BE starting with DePaul. This is a chip worthy rotation if AM can give us 5 steady minutes as backup PG in each half. Is that too much to ask?

Diarra 30 / Mahaney 10
Ball 25 / Ross 15
Liam 30 / Stew 10
Alex 35 / Stew 5
Samson 20 / Reed 20

35: Alex
30: Diarra / Liam
25: Ball
20: Samson / Reed
15: Ross / Stew
10: Mahaney
Nowell done before he started?

Was dressed last game and got a DNP. Maybe he’ll get break glass in case of emergency PT like Singare but I don’t see Hurley using a 10 man rotation. He’ll have to take Mahaneys spot

It's interesting because after Maui Hurley said he needs to play Nowell, then plays him only 5 minutes in the UMES game (was that all in garbage time?), then Nowell hurts his shoulder, is ready to play a couple weeks later and since then nothing. So what's up? Is Nowell just not ready? Is Hurley trying to get Mahaney going so no need for Nowell? I'd ask the question if I was a beat reporter.

"Ahmad in the first half I liked," Dan Hurley said. "Ahmad in the second half, he showed his inexperience. But, he plays with some physicality out there. I think he's going to be a good player. I think we have to play him."

Well Hurley didn't say exactly when he was going to play him. I only assumed that meant now. :)

Hope he gets a chance to do that, love that kid

Are we also winning the BE tournament? If we go 19-1/18-2 plus the tournament we‘re easily a one seed. It’s still December, you‘re talking about losing 1-2 more times the rest of the season.
committee has shown time and time again in recent years that they don't really care about conference tourneys when it comes to the top seedlines....and that they pretty much have the brackets done but for any bid stealers.

Have to think that because he wasn’t practicing or playing for a couple weeks, with the holiday break, he was just giving the kid some time to get action oriented and worked back in. If he’s not getting run against DePaul, then something may be more to it.

Mike Woodson
Very much - Woodson runs his offense through his bigs with very little action to set up his shooters. It doesn’t account for going 1-20, it’s just that it seems like he cannot attract players that can shoot because of it.

That's cuz certain schools snap their fingers and steal them away. ;)

Then he puts up a mid court three with 4 seconds left.
That was ridiculous. Are they not coached to count in their heads? It happens to us too getting a bad shot but 4 seconds is a lot.

Nothing about that shot made sense - for PG to heave it up makes it even worse. Felt very Roscoe Smith, brain fart to the point it seemed he lost track of how much time there was and was in just get it off mindset.

Four of the 10 worst major conference teams are former Big East teams. Unfortunately, one is currently in the Big East.

And of course, six are currently in the ACC! I was so hung up on the misfortunes of schools that left the conference that I didn’t even realize how ACC-heavy the list was.

Boston College
Virginia Tech
Miami
Syracuse

Seems to be 4 unless I'm missing something. All 4 currently in the watered down ACC.
There was a time (two decades ago) when half of that list (BC, Seton Hall, Syracuse, Miami & Va Tech) was slightly more than 1/3 of the old Big East.

I remember Va Tech football but the Big East era of hoops is a big blur, I don't remember any games, players, or coaches

They were only around for hoops for four years. The first three were forgettable and awful. Seth Greenberg coached the final year and got them into the BET.

@kobe ...Cincy loses on the road to a so so K State team. They were ranked 16th coming into the game, with one quality win (neutral win against Dayton) and now losses to Nova and K State. No way should they be ranked.

Coleman Hawkins finally earning his $2 million NIL check with 20 points and 10 rebounds tonight.

They will sink like a stone now that they are no longer playing Nicholls, Grambling and Arkansas Pine Bluff. But hey, at least @kobe will get to root for the real teams in the Big 12 that make the grown up tournament at the end of the year.
