SEC SEC SEC SEC. It’s all the narrative I hear on tv and this board, yet unranked Ohio State has been up on big #4 Kentucky at home all game.
It's at MSG not home and the SEC literally picked up two other big non-conf wins today relatively easily. It's not a narrative, as a whole the conference is ahead of everyone else this season.

Auburn getting lots of praise after todays shellacking of Purdue as being this years UConn.

Yeah but it’s portrayed that it’s etched in stone for the season. Teams move up and down, improve and some get worse. Time will tell.
Look at Florida, #7 have they played anyone really good?
They will all start beating each other now and the number of ranked teams will drop by half by the end.

On the women's side UConn women playing perimeter defense like the men in Maui, 2nd time this season they played a team on or above the talent level and they can't guard a soul

They're going to be playing other ranked SEC teams, you know they're not going to get dinged much if they're losing to each other

.-.
That's not a good ranking to include Auburn. The top 5 teams have a season's worth of games. Auburn has 12 games worth with a good percentage of those games against lesser competition. Come back and see me in late March.
Only two of those top five won Natty's.

UK gonna lose this one. Always entertaining watching the meltdown. Not watching but would be curious as to the defensive strategy by OSU, UK 15-51 from floor is brutal. Are they extending pressure and being physical?

Could be the one team we bump in the rankings.

Looks like the BY after Maui

Fully agreed. Way too early to make these silly comparisons.

True but those were all very good teams.

Duke 1999 made the NC
Duke 2001 won it
UK 2015 was a FF team with one loss?
Gonzaga 2021 made the NC (a bit fluky with their conference perhaps)
UConn 2024 won it

If you were to tell Auburn fans they had an 80% shot at making the NC game and the other 20% was a FF, I think they would take it.

Kentucky not impressive

They are very similar to UConn this year with how they play. I think it goes to show how open it is this year. I don't see a truly dominant team this year, both Purdue and UConn last year would run this year.

Any fan of any team would. But in the end, only one thing really matters, and while a projected 40% chance of an NC is damn good, it's still less than 51%.. No point in any analyst slobbering over them at this point in the season.

But credit to Pearl; he did give Danny some material to stoke his competitive fire:
“We beat a good team, but we beat a great basketball program,” Pearl said. “Nobody does it better than Purdue. Period.”

Colorado beats Bellarmine, meaning they make it through the OOC without a bad loss. Should stay Q2 loss all year

I have a hard time rooting for Pearl. He just skeeves me, I am not sure why. My second favorite team outside of UCONN is the non blue blood that beats the blue bloods or wins a championship. IT's going to be hard to choose Auburn or Alabama this year

Gonzaga down 27-16 to UCLA in LA. Battle for Gonzaga was just ejected for a flagrant 2.

Memphis beat 16 Ole Miss by 19 earlier.

Our wins against Gon, Bay and Texas don’t look that great. Memphis and Dayton might be our best opponents.

Ridiculous and-1 for UCLA to go up ahead, Gonzaga defender got clocked in the face with an elbow, I would just called it a play on to tie it

Nembhard nervous as hell on the game tying free throw, he wasn't even close

Down goes Gonzaga. Want them ranked for our benefit, but I think they will fall a bit after this. 9-4 with wins over Baylor and Indiana.

UConn went from 14 to 13 in KenPom after Memphis win, and then down to 16 after Zags loss. Sigh…

Gonna be real tough to get a 1 seed without a signature OOC win but a 2 seed in the East is still in play and I’d sign up for that right now. Seems like Hurley settled on a 9 man rotation going into Xmas break. I’m sure they’ve been in the gym working on D and are now ready to tear thru the BE starting with DePaul. This is a chip worthy rotation if AM can give us 5 steady minutes as backup PG in each half. Is that too much to ask?

Diarra 30 / Mahaney 10
Ball 25 / Ross 15
Liam 30 / Stew 10
Alex 35 / Stew 5
Samson 20 / Reed 20

35: Alex
30: Diarra / Liam
25: Ball
20: Samson / Reed
15: Ross / Stew
10: Mahaney

No signature OOC win? I would say Baylor is a solid win. Gonzaga is still a good win on a neutral floor. Don't disagree on it being tough to be a 1 seed this year, but right now that is because of Maui. They roll through the BE, that could change.

I'm more interested in at least playing in Providence the first week than if we are a 1 or 2 seed. Getting Newark too should be the goal.

Sure they’re solid/good wins but both could be ranked in the high teens or twenties next week. Baylors best win is either Arkansas or SJU. Zags best win is against Baylor. Will be rooting for both so they turn back into signature wins but right now neither is as good of a win as it seemed at the time.

i think we'd have to pretty much go 19-1 in BE play to get a 1 seed.

Not because I think we'd deserve one, but because the SEC is going to beat eachother up. does 18-2 with wins over marquette and st. johns get it done? really questionable...but UNC got a garbage 1 seed last year, so who knows.

Yes, that unquestionably would get it done considering that would put us at 26-5 in a year where there are very few if any elite teams. There's going to be a lot of teams racking up losses in conference play. 18-2 is going to be a tough task to even pull off for UConn

Are we also winning the BE tournament? If we go 19-1/18-2 plus the tournament we‘re easily a one seed. It’s still December, you‘re talking about losing 1-2 more times the rest of the season.
