December General CBB Discussion Thread (Non-BE)

Plenty of bad basketball at the bottom of all these leagues, the issue is that we have nothing good at the top. Are top teams are mediocre in other leagues, at best.

Would Seton Hall be a tourney team in the Big 12?
"We have nothing good at the top."

There it is.

Here is the video. If it were a foul, I don't think many refs call this without some more egregious grabbing going on. Certainly not a shooting foul. Awful to award free throws there

I get not loving a game like that decided at the line but the ref also can’t swallow his whistle just because there are a few seconds left. The only reason Anderson wasn’t around Foster and in the lane with a reasonable shot there is because Foster was grabbing him the whole way and riding him out of his path with the body. It was a foul and one that he engaged in for quite a while. I think you get a little wiggle room there as the defender but there way way too much contact there and for too long not to call something.

I hope this isn't an inference that I'm including UConn, because that would be more about you and a "gotcha" than the truth. I of course think UConn is awesome, which should have been an understood. Otherwise, the gotcha stuff is kinda annoying. 2-11, I don't see one team that can win more than a game in the Big Dance, if that.

This season or going forward?

Why is UConn not included when you take stock of the Big East, do you take the best program out of all the other leagues when you evaluate them?

Should Purdue not be included in an evaluation of the mega Big 10? They would have no final 4's since 2019 without them and they have no championships since 2000.

This season. I question whether any BE teams makes a significant NCAA run again soon (Elite 8 plus). Like I said, the only program I think could is Nova. Cooley has shown he's incompetent. Coaches like Shaka & McDermott, who have carried their weight, don't know how to use the portal & are close to retirement, respectively. Both also lost a lot of old talent that carried them recently, and have not replenished.

The whole point of the argument is what is this league, sans UConn? And that we are carrying it, ala Gonzaga.

Let's look ahead to next year - which one of these current BE rosters are swinging back something, with their HS recruiting classes, that look like they can make an Elite 8 through Final 4?

You think the Big East is like the the WCC year in and year out?

So now you're doing freshman classes again for next season with a class you've repeatedly said sucks.

We have no idea what all the teams in the league will look like next season.

Where should UConn go? I am sure Benedict will ask the ACC nicely if they will take us this offseason, but it is safe to assume the answer will be the same as it has been for the last 23 years. What are the other options?

Don't be hating on my Mastodons!!! That's my alma mater. Pretty nice campus actually.
The Purdue University and Indiana University systems seem confusing. There are combinations and separations like in Fort Wayne, from what I understand. or don't understand.

AJ Storr, still poisoning the wells of CBB teams. When is this guy out of eligibility? As long as he doesn’t play for UConn, I hope it’s never…

Someone in the ACC will need to try to get a 5th year out of him to complete the cycle. A couple northeast programs come to mind

SJU
Wisconsin
Kansas
Ole Miss

Think of it like Uconn Stamford without the hoop team.

The Purdue and Indiana systems used to be combined in some of the Universities around the state. It was IPFW when I graduated there in 08. Now it's just PFW, even though IU still has the dentistry program there I believe.

It was also IUPUI in Indianapolis. Now it's just IU Indy.

Everywhere else it is just IU places for the most part with some Purdue places spread around.

IUSB is pretty close to me and it costs less than 9k to go there if you live at home. Pretty reasonable if you also me.

One can only hope. In the meantime, my general view is that I'm a UConn fan and UConn fan only. I used to route hard for the BE as a second level fan, but no longer really. Don't really care.

Suck or not, they're still a ranked class and the better of it is going elsewhere. It's all relative.

I looked up Dylan Sinn because apparently he is a writer who voted UConn at only 7. Guess he is still sore that UConn is better than Purdue

oh barf. This guy AJ Storr, I can't stand him as a basketball player-I never thought he was all that. Even though he is shooting a good 46% from the field including 44% from 3 this year, these numbers were horrible last year for Kansas when he had to coexist with other high quality players. He is a me first player, not a team player, and I am not just talking about his paltry assist numbers in his career. He is the ultimate black hole-once he gets the ball he very rarely considers passing it and only does it if he has to.

He has played at 4 different schools in his 4 years and none of the teams got better after acquiring him.

It's on Beard for even bringing him in. He may be the grossest cancerous mercenary in the history of college sports. Not only did he play for 4 different colleges, I believe he played for 4 different high schools.

Correct, it is Beard's fault for bringing in AJ Storr and "grossest cancerous mercenary in the history of college sports" is a good description of him. As far as playing style and selfishness AJ Storr and Marshall Henderson back in the day, coincidentally he played for Ole Miss, are the types I hate.

BC fighting hard, only down 10 to … FDU
great comeback for all 2,833 in attendance (inflated)

bcu and cuse are just outright embarrassments in a conference which used to pride itself on college basketball

Continuing to make us look very good (with just that one buzzer beater hiccup against Nebraska).
Their frosh (add to the pile), is really showing out. Kid was ranked 152 by 247 and now is being seen as a lottery pick.
