December General CBB Discussion Thread (Non-BE)

One of those areas you and I often disagree on because I value smarts. Our best NBA players right now are Castle and Spencer. Spencer isn't there because of his athletecism. The current ROY favorite is not there for that either. It's not all about running fast and jumping high.
Most of the top scorers/MVP candidates in the NBA aren't elite run and jump guys. Jokic, SGA, Doncic, Cunningham, Reaves, Brunson. There's a lot of tweeners up there too. NBA is way less interested in tradional anything nowadays.

Seems like Duke has locked itself into a 1 seed. I don’t expect anyone in the ACC to challenge them. One more good OOC game for them before conference play which they will win. TTU at MSG.
They'll have their losses in the ACC. They aren't that good.

One of the biggest PGs in the league currently who was in the dunk contest isn't there because of his physical abilities? Lol

If Cam was 6’5 with a 40” vertical he'd be Jordan. But instead he's an emerging role player.

That kind of stuff matters when we’re talking about a potential franchise player.
I was only referring to Spencer as it comes to a kid who's smarts are more valuable than guys like Hawkins & AJAX. We all know Castle is a great athlete.

Well said - the NBA has become much more a league based on being versatile, leveraging the rules with smarts.

MSU still is scared of threes. Was so painful watching them turn down so many open shots down the stretch
Down the stretch Fears turned down a wide open 3 from the top of the key to take a contested floater that he missed. 90%ft shooting guard has to be able to pull there and knock that down.

Andre Jackson is smart. He's just not skilled.

Cam is an elite elite scorer above all else. He's not a super IQ guy. If he was he'd be a PG.

This is a brutal take. Cam's IQ is off the charts and he does play point guard.
He's a smart player. But I think this board overrates his smart.

Like some people may think he's like the smartest UConn player ever. He's a developing PG too. Mostly because his size takes him there defensively but he's been doing great with the adjustment.

that's so dumb lmao. cam's not a pg because he's not breaking down the defense off the dribble. it has nothing to do with iq

No, we aren't comparing him to any of your binkies, don't worry. None of the PGs that went through the Calhoun Academy of Genius. Weird. One of his biggest strengths is his smarts, and that's what separates him as a player.

Two matchups with the Ville, two vs UNC, and Michigan in February. They have a couple L’s on that schedule

Our OOC slates are pretty similar. If we beat Florida and Texas, we would have the easier track to a one seed

I guess that's the worst home loss EVER for a #1 ranked team.
Unfortunately it's tied for worst home loss ever for a #1 team. I only remember the other game because I was in Gampel in 1995 when UConn got it's first #1 ranking ever only to get run out the gym by Kerry Kittles and Villanova. Kittles 37 pt performance might be the 2nd best performance I have ever seen in Gampel. It was the best until Ben Gordon 's 40 pt game against Nevada in 2004 season. Nevada made the Sweet 16 that season while UConn of course won it all.

He was 0-10 from the field today (0-2 from three) so I'm sure he wasn't feeling very confident to take the shot. Although on the season he's a 42% shooter from three, 48% from the field, so just an off day I guess.

I’ve been meaning to ask, is calling BC “BCU” an inside joke on the boneyard or something?
ACC Commissioner John Swofford in 2003 when BC was joining the conference mistakenly referred to Boston College as Boston University. Hence Boston College University (BCU).

Michigan is a load. They are the best team in college ball right now. Might sound blasphemous, i might throw a few sheckles on them to win the whole thing at 7-1.

I liked this AI answer:

Yes, there were reports and online discussions that the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC)
mistakenly referred to Boston College as "Boston College University" on its official website or in a formal communication around the time the school joined the conference in the early 2000s.
This error became a point of discussion and mild ridicule among rival fans and online communities...
