December General CBB Discussion Thread (Non-BE)

Not sure Nowell's status as far as injury, but I was following VCU's upset loss to NM and it doesn't appear he played. Injury or not, his career isn't going great so far.

This makes me laugh. It's like as Uconn fan you refuse to recognize how good a team is by looking at the games earlier in the year, rather than the game after they've gelled and gone on a ridiculous run. Have you actually watched their recent games?

Dusty puts the breaks on alright - they were up over Nova by 30 at the half and won by 28. They go up big quick and just overwhelm teams with their size and athletecism.
You’re just ignorant and think you know it all. I recognize how good a team is, you’re the dumb a.. who thinks whatever you say is gospel.
Yes, I have watched them and never said they were not good but I am certainly not ready to name them the team of the decade because your pompous a.. says so.

No one said team of the decade just a team to beat this year. Every metric supports it, watching them play supports it. Here the focus is on a very early Wake Forest game, not the fact that they beat Gonzaga (and others) by 40.

Wisconsin, who has wins against Providence and Marquette, and plays Villanova next week, got absolutely blasted by 30 at Nebraska

Cornhuskers are 10-0 and going to Illinois this weekend

It was never the focus! It was a simple statement to pump the breaks as they have shown they are not invincible! I never once said they were not a very good team.

The main issue here is YOU as usual. You continue to personally attack people and or talk down to those if they do not agree with you. If you actually knew 20% of what you think you do, you would be running a high major program. I swear you just love to cause drama.

Where did I personally attack anyone? Disagreeing with someone isn't attacking them. How good UM is was minimized because Wake took them to OT in the second game of the year. Since then, they've steamrolled teams, including a Zags team that is top 10. And if you watch them, they are huge and really talented all over the floor. It's ok that there is another great team out there that isn't Uconn. No reason to get all worked up over it.

No, it's not. Not sure what's going on there, but it seems Dan Hurley moving off him was the staff recognizing it was a miss. I feel bad for the kid.

Abraham is also being used quite weird where he plays like 12 minutes in the first half and then that is it.

Im not worked up at all and never said they werent a very good team. I also referred to 2 games and in both games Michigan's 3 point shooting was very much an issue. I never said they were not capable of winning a NC just simply stated they are not invincible.

Def not invincible, but they're good in ways our 2024 team was. They are big and they are athletic. They have at least two first round picks in their starting lineup. They have a first team AA. Scary is that they're probably going to get better as this is mainly transfers, and they have a top flight frosh on the bench. May is a top 10 coach. I wouldn't see what they are now as a finished product. They're a goliath now based on talent, and could get even better as the year develops. Right now they are physically overwhelming teams.

i do not disagree, they have NBA talent and Dusty is a damn good coach, their weakness is 3 point shooting and the teams that have contained it have done well.

As bad as the Villanova loss was, Nova played them much better in the 2nd half really limiting their 3 point shooting. this very well could because they were up 30 at the half and taking careless shots

IDK with the 3 point shooting - not sure I see it as a major handicap. Where they dominate is defensively, just like our 2024 team. They're currently KPD #1 by a wide margin at 85.6. The next best team is ISU at 90.2. This is the part that is so impressive. They have that elite rim protector and can let Mara sag back as their other big guys guard the 3 line. Burnett has shot close to 40% from three, Yaxel is 36%. They don't need 3's out of the other guys. '

The block shots, 7th in country. They pass the ball really, really well, 5th in the country in assists.

Not sure you've noticed, but we don't really shoot the 3 all that well either.

Uconn 34%
Michigan 36%

So then by the same logic, Uconn is limited.

I wouldn't put much stock into the second half of a game where a team was up 30 at the half. I'd look at the first half. There really aren't many arguments against how good they are unless you're really digging for it. No team is absolutely perfect. The Gonzaga win may be one of the most impressive wins we've seen in a long time.

Iowa State sputtering at home coming off that Purdue win (Iowa up 27-14 with 5 minutes left in half). We’ll see if they flip a switch.

I get that Iowa State smoked Purdue, but they don’t pass the eye test as a top 5 team.

Really like the new Iowa coach. He has his team playing at a high level
Maybe Iowa State got a big head and starting enjoying the smell of their own farts

If the lose to Iowa at home that erases a lot of good mojo and computer points (NET, KenPom) they got from their win at Purdue.

1 team is 5/7 from 3, 1 team is 2/10 ... that helps and hurts.

Would love an Iowa upset but they aren’t going to keep shooting over 60%

Didn't know Miles Simon was now working as a cbb color commentator(calling Iowa vs Iowa St), I thought he was still an NBA assistant coach.

Iowa now back in it after it looked like they were on the verge of getting ran in the 2nd half

8-0 run for Iowa. Jefferson is a nice player for Iowa State but once he gets it he is a black hole. Other than Jefferson and their PG, Iowa State looks slow and unathletic.

Jefferson was on the St. Mary’s Mahaney team we beat - but I don’t remember him. Just a few minutes off the bench and a couple rebounds and foul shots.

Looks like Stirtz has had a good year - but he’s been pretty awful today. Kind of athletically overwhelmed where nothing is easy. Made one really difficult step back in the first half.

Yeah - nice player, but not much of an athlete.
