Everyone is criticizing this kid but you almost have to almost respect what he’s doing, right? He scores a quick 20+ at a remarkably efficient clip, without ever passing the ball, before he pulls himself from the games.

Has anything similar to this ever happened before?

At this stage the Kid is going to do what he's going to do. My question to Bill Self: How did you not sniff out this behavior during the recruiting process? He only considered deep pocket schools, so that could have been an indicator.

I respect absolutely nothing about what he's doing. He deserves shame, not praise.

I'm not going to go into some rant on a basketball board about the direction our society is heading. But suffice it so say, a selfish society will tear itself apart from within. We all need to be selfish at times, but there needs to be some selflessness with it to balance everything out. I'm really sick and tired of seeing people justify, or even glorify selfish crap like this because the end result is more of the same.

He's a thief.

You watch. He'll play every minute possible in March.

Drafting him will be a stressful decision. I mean, what is a team getting? His character is on full display.

DNPeterson.

Hard pass on a guy with questionable drive.

I have no idea why his handlers think this strategy helps him. He'd be much better off playing and demonstrating endurance, ability to play in a team setting, commitment, defense, and a prioritization of improving his game under the tutelage of a pretty good college coach and program.

I can only assume that they have an entirely separate set of personal coaches for him, and he's treating Kansas basketball as a part time job and his other trainer-coaches as his primary job. He doesn't want to tire himself in his part-time job because he needs to reserve energy for his primary job.

Did Kansas know this is what they would get when they hired him?

The kid needs to be benched and not played..Self should set an example but Im sure when he played and wasn't healed from the injury that the family been playing games and didn't feel self had his back..

If Bill Self had any self-respect, pun intended, he would not even play him based on his attitude, you know damn well Hurley would do the same if one of his players did that. That being said we don't know the full story just what media Outlets report, maybe he's still dealing with his hamstring injury.

Because he's going to be the #1 pick in June regardless of any of this. Half of the NBA teams are actively doing the same load management as he is, so they're not going to care

Didn’t James Bouknight’s camp hold him out unreasonably long after his elbow injury due to lowering his odds in the draft?

He’s going #1 because he can drop 20 points in 18 minutes and pul himself.

It’s a bad look. But it’s crazy how good you have to be to actually pull something like this off.

It's even worse that he continues to lie and his coach continues to go along with the lie.

Everyone knows what's been going on all season, just be honest about it. This garbage is disrespectful to his teammates and the game.

He might want to but that might not be an option to whomever is picking up the tab on his NIL. Seems like a crappy time to be a coach in college basketball.

I don't think he's trying to get away with anything. No one knows what he's physically going through.

The guy is talented. I'm sure he would rather play when healthy.

I think the whole situation has been mismanaged by Self. He should have just shut him down.

I hope the kid gets better and plays when healthy

The situation could be selfishness on Self or his part. No one knows for sure, but it's become a circus that didn't need to be.

We know he's most likely gone after this year. I would guess that Self wants to get as much out of him and hopefully go as far as he can while he has him.

Maybe he really shouldn't be playing at all.

It's all unfortunate for him, the fans that don't really know what's going on, but he's earning NIL, so the program wants a return.

Took 14 posts for this to show up.

It occurred to me amost immediately, but I decided to keep reading, and stay quiet, because I felt it wouldn't be liked or appreciated, and I didn't really care all that much about bringing it up.

In fuller context, I'll admit that I'm bothered by UConn fans here who are pleased by their winning bets against the spread, and are essentially short-selling the Huskies and splitting their rooting interests within individual games.

Most importantly, I have my own bundle of inconsistencies and human imperfections, so I'm no better than those I implicitly criticize.

For the record, I've never seen Peterson play, so I don't know how he plays. I share the overall thumbs down opinion of his irregular participation record, but I also wonder what betting markets there are that predict whether he'll play or not, how many minutes he'll play, when he'll be chosen in the draft, how many games he'll play next year, how many minutes per game he'll average, what kind of sponsorship deals he'll get signed to, and so so so much more.

Afterthought: Has somebody trademarked "Darryl & the Miracles," in hopes that he does a Danny Manning?

He could be involved a massive points shaving ring. That would make more sense these days than flus and never ending hamstring injuries.

Herbst Brooks would hate Peterson.
