Just called out the UConn men's program again on his show. Stating that he was getting killed on our boards(the boneyard) for saying that we don't have a brand. Then went on another rant on how we have no brand.
He was saying that we're too up and down. But mentioned the Likes of UNC and UCLA having a great brand. Those programs have been way more up and down than we have over the course of the last 15-20 years. What about Ray Ray and he got game? Rip Hamilton era? Ben and Emeka era? Hasheem the Dream Thabeet as the most dominant defensive player in his era? now the Kemba and Shabazz era? All the classic moments in the garden: 7 Big East titles, 6 OTs vs Cuse, Kemba with the step back game winner, 5 games 5 nights.

Why do we need validation from a guy like Dan Patrick?

I think most people just know him as Bob Costas' understudy who probably won't get his job (Josh Elliott will probably get the gig), he has no other exposure besides that and no influence in the media like the big guys.

I love the irony. He slams us for academic misdeeds while in the same breath holding UNC up as an example of one of the best brands when they have been found guilty of the worst academic fraud of our time. Gee Dan, are we supposed to try and be more like UNC or not?

I truly believe these people must be smarter than they seem but for the life of me I cannot understand their inability to understand or unwillingness to accept the injustice of the tournament ban imposed on UConn. I'm not even going to argue about how truly irrelevant APR is to the academic mission or that kids that played no part in the problem were punished. It was the retroactive, ex post facto manner in which the punishment was designed that gave schools no opportunity to remedy the situation and avoid punishment. Not to mention the fact that UConn had already been punished through lost scholarships for the low scores.

I would like to pose a simple example to Mr Patrick so that he might grasp the offending concept. Let's say Dan is driving down the road in his sports car going 40 mph in a 35 mph zone. The cops catch him and give him a ticket which he pays. The loop is closed, right? Ah, but no, four years later the law is changed and the new punishment for such an offense is loss of driving privileges while spending a year in jail. They come collect Dan at the studio, cuff him and haul him off to jail. By Mr. Patrick's logic this is a completely just and warranted consequence and he would go happily and willingly knowing full well that he deserved this outcome.

I don't think so.

Am I missing something? From what you say Gottlieb was pro UConn on the APR, but now you like him less?

He went to OK state, he brings it up every 5 minuets.

Gottlieb being anti-UConn is a myth. Outside of the Scoe comment a few years back he has been fine. Just because an media member says something negative about us does not mean they hate us, it is their job to give an opinion. It is crazy that people forget this.

I was pointing out that Gottlieb did not just go to Okla St. I am also pointing out that, although it may be part of his job, Gottlieb really should not pass judgment on a student-athletes' transgressions.

By the way Noeynox wanted to know where DP went and he lost respect for him not Gottlieb (At least that is how I interpreted it).

If you are under 25, then UConn basketball has been winning championships for as long as you can remember, and twice as many as everyone else. That's our brand.
