So if this constitutes "overachieving" by Dallas, I suppose Washington are the "underachievers"? Did these vaunted projections take into account all the player absences and opt-outs? E.g., that the Mystics would be without Delle Donne, Charles, Cloud and Powers?

I know you hate Arike, Muffet, and ND in general for on court and off the court actions and antics ward UConn but half of the league has a losing record and the majority of the teams (including Dallas) have had either player absences, injuries, and opt-outs, so what's the point?

But those absences have impacted different teams to varying degrees. I believe that Dallas had no players opt out, and Harrison and Jefferson are their currently injured players. Pretty safe to say that Washington's personnel losses this year are more severe.

I started by commending Arike for her great shot.

They did take into account the opt-outs. Obviously not the mid-season Powers injury.

But Dallas also lost their original starting point guard in Jefferson.
 
In a normal season without opt-outs the Wings probably finish 9th or 10th which would be expected given their youth.

It's tough to gauge whether the Wings have actually improved. They're scoring more points (largely from taking and making more 3s) but have given up more points. Scoring overall looks to be up in the league this season. They should end up with a slightly better win % this season over last season (36% vs 29%), but with a much smaller % of their wins against playoff teams. Last season 7 of the Wings 10 wins were against playoff teams while so far this season only 1 of their 7 wins is against a team above them in the standings. They've won just enough games against the bottom 1/3 of the league.

All that said, the Wings are a dangerous single elimination team because of Arike's ability to make a lot of the many shots she's going to take.
