The poll does reflect the prevailing thought of who the expansion targets are as Cincy, BYU, and then UConn are the top 3 of the realistic targets/possibilities. Sorry but FSU is a waste of a thought right now.

Well, I just thought I would give an opinion on how most Big 12 fans see the expansion candidates. It doesn't take much to see which school stands out above the others.

Here is some data that illustrates it more clearly.

Total Athletic Department budget UConn is #44, right after Kansas State. Ahead of: Purdue, NC State, Iowa State, GT, Colorado, Oregon State, Miss State, Cinci (#52), Utah...

In short, not in the Bama, UT, Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, LSU class certainly....but there with many long time P5 schools.

FSU is a waste of time to debate. Are they a long-term possibility? Maybe. But you have to beat the ACC to a conference network first in order to disband the ACC. And you get to a conference network through UConn.

Actually, UCONN has played much worse than Rutgers. You have two Big East Championships. We have one. Big deal.

UCONN is one of the few schools that has lost more games in its history then it has won. Traditionally, you are one of the least successful teams in college football. RU has at least won more games than they have lost...and we've played a lot more games than UCONN has.

How do you possibly say we have played it worse? We have been to more bowl games, have more bowl wins...have a better head to head record, and while both teams were in the same league, RU won more league games than UCONN. RU has finished in the top half of league standings more often, and RU has been ranked in the top 20 a lot more also.

RU has has been ranked in the top 10 during two separate seasons while in the same league. UCONN? NEVER!

Nice try, but no one outside the state of Connecticut thinks UCONN has played better than RU. No one.

This is moronic. During the period when UConn has been a D1 program, UConn has been better. It's pretty clear.

The biggest issue that fans and media from Big 12 Country seem to have with UCONN is simply that it is located in the state of Connecticut. On that basis and that basis only certain people are quick to dismiss The Huskies. If UCONN had the exact same football history but was located in Colorado, Mizzouri, Louisiana, or somewhere else within their sphere of influence, I believe people would be screaming from the mountaintops to add them yesterday.

JMO but if a vote was held to select 2 additions for The Big 12 from a group including UCONN, BYU, CINCY, Houston, UCF, USF, Temple, and Memphis based only on the academic/athletic merits of each school while withholding the schools' names, I suspect that UCONN would appear on 90% of ballots.

UCONN is the top academic option, top basketball option, and top all around AD. Football would struggle initially in The Big 12, but eventually would adjust and become a tough out. They also provide the most potential for financial return if a network ever becomes a reality. If sensible people act with The conference's best intentions at heart then UCONN will be in The Big 12. If 10 schools all act in their own self interests, there will probably be two add-ons, a CCG, and no network. OU and Kansas will be playing in The B1G, SEC, or PAC in 10 years.

There's no point in even debating with you. RU is a dumpster fire. The only reason you're in the B10 is because of cable boxes and your AAU affiliation. Literally nothing to do with athletics. Not saying you don't have a good school but there's no point in comparing our athletic programs. We are a top-rate atheltic program, you're a dumpster fire with a geographical advantage. Awesome job.

Congratulations on your two successful seasons in 147 years of existence. Even the Chicago Cubs have a better winning percentage.

this is sorta OT but wasn't UNM considered for the XII in the 90's?

No. The Big 12 was a merger between the Southwest Conference and the Big 8 conference in 1994. Conference play started in 1996. UNM was never a part of that deal. And if it were, I would be in total shock.

I don't recall Rutgers being invited to the Big Ten because of its "phenomenal" football. Rutgers is AAU and the Big Ten was interested in reaching out to the northeast market. That is how most people I know look at it. Sorry, but that is how it is. Honest.

This is the accurate way of looking at it, unfortunately, instead of being proud of their academics and acknowledging their DMA made them an attractive candidate, Rutgers fans insist on creating some alternative history where their football program wasn't absolute clown shoes for the entire 20th century and most of the 21st.

Uh oh guys, we have fallen from 1st to 4th place. Looks like our AAC sentence will be permanent. :(

Isn't it great we don't have to rely on a stupid poll for such an important issue to the Big 12? People bring their biases into the voting. Nothing scientific about it.

Well, from what I remember, the Big Ten really wanted Maryland (which was already stirring things up in the ACC). Of course, you can't add just one school, so naturally the Big Ten needed to add another. Rutgers fit the bill in terms of its academics and its location. Certainly not because of its extraordinary ability on the field. Of course, now the Big Ten can brag that it has the school where college football was started.

Yes. I don't begrudge them, because it's a fine, flagship university in a big state population wise. Their athletic department is a complete failure, but that doesn't mean it always will be. If somebody invites Memphis I may have a seizure. Boise State isn't far behind as a school that simply isn't in the P5 category "as a university". Louisville was lucky as hell that it is the anti-Rutgers, and the ACC was desperate to boost their football strength of schedule so FSU/Clemson wouldn't be the odd man out every year. Strong athletics across many sports, but a piss poor university.

Don't mind the RU fan...as a lot, their fans are desperately trying to change the narrative that they were added to the B1G for any reason other than for its cable boxes and AAU. Cable Box U.

This is it in a nut shell. On the basis of university profile, academic standing, and geography Rutgers was a great add to The B1G. If their fans simply accepted that this is why they are in the conference, as opposed to anything that they have achieved in athletics, they would get a hell of a lot less s*** on these type of boards.

In the mean time with their increased resources they could modernize facilities, attract better coaches, and improve recruiting. After a few years they might have something to actually crow about. Instead they continue to sell the dream that their awesome football team got them on The B1G's Radar. SMDH.

Thank you for the information. I appreciate the education lesson.
Also, not sure if it has been mentioned, when our stadium was built and opened in 2003, the footings are in place for a 10,000 seat boost plus we have other areas where we have put stands- so our capacity can go from 40,000 to over 50,000 quite easily - say 52,500.

Oh so you have half the championships in triple the time?

I could see expansion of the stadium becoming a reality should UConn become a Big 12 member.

How did this end up in the Dallas News discussion about who the Big XII is looking at? No one is looking at Rutgers. The Big Ten has their New Jersey cable boxes, and Rutgers has fulfilled their role. No one is noticing last place in the Big Ten in 90% of their participation. Same was true in the Big East.

Dude, didn't you hijack a thread last week to fight with a Maryland fan for like 4 pages and 200 posts?
