Rookie of the Year: Crystal Dangerfield, Minnesota Lynx
Guard Crystal Dangerfield, the 16th overall pick in April's WNBA draft, is averaging 13.6 PPG and 3.2 APG for Minnesota. Ned Dishman/NBAE via Getty Images
She would be the lowest draft pick -- by a lot -- to earn the honor. Dangerfield was the fourth pick in the second round, at No. 16 overall, in April. Tracy Reid, the inaugural winner of the rookie honor in 1998, was the No. 7 pick, and no one taken lower than that has ever won the award.

Half the season to be played and Carter is expected to return. Still, nice recognition for Crystal who is the starting PG on a team that is currently tied for 3rd in the league standings.

"Who would have thought that at the midpoint of the @WNBA season, @minnesotalynx second-round draft pick @crystald2_ would be a front runner for Rookie of the Year? "

That would be us! (UConn Nation). WE watched her for the last 4 years. WE watched her grow and develop through the growing pains of her freshman year. WE watched her become a "consummate" floor general and master Geno's system, and take over games in the 4th quarter when the offense bogged down.

WE believed in her since she had that breakout game against Baylor her freshman year. WE are not surprised that she is having the success she is. After all, Geno and Shea trained her!! ;) If she stays on this trajectory, she has to be voted the ROY. And to think that all 12 teams passed on her in the first round, and 3 of them in the 2nd. I wonder how many of them would like to have her on their roster now?

Shame Lynx will not be able to get the top pick when Paige enters the WNBA.

Oh so this is about Paige. I see SMDH!

Just daydreaming how cool it would be for the Lynx to get a 3rd ROY from UConn and the special joy of playing in her home state. Nothing sinister.

I believe you are forgetting their first UCONN ROY - Maya Moore. So your day dream can get better....for the Lynx to get a 4th ROY from UConn

In case anyone is counting, there were 5 guards taken ahead of Crystal in the 2020 WNBA draft.
But you can't blame Seattle for not taking her they have Sue and Jordan, and had no room for someone this year. The same thing as Ezi last year, and she is going to be something in a few years. Stewie has a chance to rewrite history with the young talent in Seattle.
Sue might hang on forever to play with all the young talent.

They could get Westbrook next year and have a third...

Yes!!! in many ways. She WAS NOT the same player she was when she left as when she first arrived. But you knew that. ;) She was a sly old vet when she left, ready for the pros. She was a young kid fresh out of HS with her eyes wide open, not really knowing what to expect when she first arrived.

I remember her saying in an interview about 2-3 weeks after official practice started that nothing she did in HS or AAU prepared her for what she was experiencing in practice. That was not the case 4 years later when she got to Minnesota. She was ready for whatever came. She made the cut, and has been starting the last 2 weeks, and making a difference her coach and teammates can see and appreciate. Her numbers and her play speak for themselves. :)
