I was concerned about playing Creighton, I think they are ranked 21st, and UConn playing without Fudd/Griffin.. Dorka and Aaliyah were great, Nika was her usual upbeat player and our defense was really good.
Lou had trouble finding the basket, plus she was guarded well/when Azzi returns it will help Lou's offensive game.
Caroline hustle and showed sign of getting better.
Well said. I was worried about this game against Creighton as well, especially after hearing that we would be playing with only seven players. We dodge a bullet because Creighton could not hit the barn with a baseball. Holy smokes! Someone posted that they were shooting 15% from the field and an eye popping 5% from three-point land. That helped a lot.
As for our beloved UConn squad. Hats off to the defense, especially our halfcourt defense. I like to say that our defense was the reason why Creighton had an awful shooting night. Defensively, it looked like we were applying enough pressure on three-point line, trying to run them off the line and from getting comfortable looks from the line.
Offensively, Aaliyah just continues to impress! From her playing the passing lanes and getting steals which lead to breakaway layups, her post up in the lane, and her improved defense. She continues to play some outstanding basketball. Keep it going, Aaliyah.
Dorka: Another solid game from Dorka. Loved that she used her height and size advantage to just dominate the lane, much like Aaliyah did. Loved that she did not just jack up 3-point shots. We all know that she can shoot from deep. But she played a smart game yesterday and continues to play impressive basketball.
Nika: Is there a Most Improved Player Award or You are so valuable to the team award. OMG! Nika just continues to stake her claim to the point guard position. Each game her decision making gets better and better. Her shooting, once suspect. I mean really suspect, now causes a defender to actually think twice about playing off her. Nika's court vision is wicked! There were some passes that were sweet!! Like nice dimes! Great work, Nika!!
Caroline & Lou: I just love watching Caroline play. She can do wrong in my eyes. Just glad that she is getting better each game. Just love how she is not afraid to rebound. Hope that she is okay. I saw where she had an ice pack on her head. For Lou, just a natural competitor. She tried to get a few charges in the game. Not many players put their bodies on the line like that. Lou does it with ease. Sure she did not get the call a few times but she was still trying to take a charge or two. Love that about her and her shooting.
Ayanna and Ines: These two are going to great additions down the stretch. Ayanna is getting the minutes and her confidence is there. She is going to be special. Same with Ines. These two players are going to help the program a lot this season and going forward.
Great win, UConn!!
