Creighton Post Game

anyone else watching the college basketball recap show this morning on ESPN? Two things:
Emeka is a co-host!
John Rothstein just named the three greatest coaches in CBB history as John Wooden, Coach K, and, wait for it......... Rick Pitino!!

He's a bit of a NYC homer.

Please don’t take this as a negative. We destroyed Creighton on the road and I still think we can be much better. Like that look into the huddle last night. We are +13 on the boards, up double digits and Hurley talking to the team about rebounding better. This is why we win championships. Huge shout out to Stew and Ross.

That's a game that definitely flashes our upside, which is exciting. Saw a lot of things to like, extra skip passes on the perimeter, conviction. Hopefully we ride that wave of confidence into MSG.

.-.
Humbling moment for Creighton as a program.

What surprised me the most is the lack of an organized game plan. Greg M looked like Parcels without T Brady (-Kalk/Ash) LOL…. I am sure they will get better but that was certainly one loss that will stick w/ them for awhile..
I said this last year after they lost to Auburn in the NCAAT, hell my wife said it, too, "they are going to have a big adjustment after Kalkbrenner leaves". They lost Ashworth and Neal as well, but their entire defense was based on Kalkbrenner 's deep drop coverage which covered up the defensive deficiencies of the other players. They had Kalkbrenner for 5 years.

Hurdle 1 was beating Villanova. Hurdle 2, road win in Omaha. Hurdle 3 is the first St. Johns game coming up this week in MSG. This game suggests that the coaching is getting them prepared for the February stretch run.

The defense was solid, the shooting by everyone much more what was expected. Bench contributions from everyone - Stewart, Ross, Reibe and Smith. Depth that wears on the opponent. Ball, Karaban, Mullins and Demary were who we thought they were. Only Reed was sub-par, but he will get it going.

Creighton isn’t this year what they usually are, but they have talent. It wasn’t just a solid win, we made them look less than they are on their home floor. Optimism reigns.
I agree with most of what you said, but I don't think Reed was subpar. Reed was very good and above par as he had a huge impact on the game. He has to, and I mean has to stop with the silly reach in fouls, especially the ones 40 feet away from the hoop.

I mean, it's all click bait, but rick has 100% taken success to the most schools. He's had a major impact on every program he's ever been at. Doing that once is hard...twice if you're a great coach...but you could argue he's done it 4 times.

Do I think that's the most important criteria? Probably not...but it's all clickbait. If program building is your metric, then it's JC.

There is no relevance to this thread, but this just came to me. My favorite recent comment was during a road game when there was some dude shouting on the broadcast. One of our posters said that the guy reminded him of the voice on the Pink Floyd album saying, “If you don’t eat your meat, how can you have any pudding?”

For some reason, that was very funny to me.

called a foul on Creighton, not sure what the refs were looking at, it was clearly a foul on Smith
We’ll call it even for the comically bad offensive foul called on Karaban with about 5 to go in the first half. The one where he was shielding Graves on his back and Graves flopped like Tyson had just clocked him in the head despite Karaban’s elbow being in his chest.

That was a very relaxing and satisfying beat down on a Saturday night. Turning the corner a bit, I know Creighton is down this year but hey it's none of our business. Went in there did our thing didn't fall for Creighton shenanigans with the flopping or refs trying to micro manage the calls none of it mattered, simply went into Omaha and took care of business and didn't look back.

Reed just doesn't react well to everyday basketball situations. Sadly most of his errors by omission or commission should have been ingrained reactions, that sadly he doesn't, and probably won't have. Great talent, good competitor, his body just doesn't get wired with drilling. Whatever they did last year at this time with Tarris, they need to do it again. He was great at Tourney time last year.

Can't be taking fouls that far from the basket.

It seems you did not watch the game against Michigan State because it was clear that both teams were treating it as a regular season game.
Oh, so that's why guys didn't foul out of the game after their fifth foul. Now it makes sense.

When our shooters are hitting three pointers at the rate they did last night- 30+ shots put up. The need for Reed to dominate in the paint becomes much less problematic. Long rebounds on misses, etc. Can he be smarter on fouling on plays away from the paint? Of course. Another teaching moment for Hurley in film sessions. Would much rather have Reed's A game against Zubi on Friday at MSG than a blow out win in Omaha with our offense-defense- boards-bench synching at the same time.

Not quite their "A" game but FG shooting was damn good. If the center position had contributed more, than I'd say "A" game. Room to improve is nice after a 25+ point victory.

A very satisfying win last night. Creighton has been a thorn in our side since we started playing them. It was really fun watching us blow open a game that was tight late in the first half.

.-.
What stat site has the amount of possessions for each game. I'm also curious how soon in the shot clock we shot the ball last night. Seems like we were trying to play quicker last night. I've been calling for a quicker pace for a bunch of reasons and was really pleased with the way the offense looked like night.
