We cannot have 8 minute stretches of completely forgetting how to play defense and expect to win. The end of the first half killed us.
so did the end of the second half, where we completely forgot how to play offense.

I’m sorry but I couldn’t disagree with this more. A defender is allowed verticality to challenge shots. Our drivers are imitating contact. We watched Clingan do this all last year and Emeka and Jake were especially good at it as well.
I don't disagree, but I have watched tons of players initiate contact with UConn defenders all season, and the whistle constantly blows. I don't think UConn has received a very good whistle this year at all. It is what it is, and hopefully that changes next year, but boy there have been A LOT of missed calls this season. Teams get away with a ton of contact against UConn.

Listen, we shot ourselves in the foot but those two straight out of bounds calls that were botched and were blatantly obvious real time from TV were absolutely unacceptable from refs in the BET. Just can’t happen.
Didn't they reverse an out of bounds call against us in the Villanova game?

And it scored 62 points. On the average the winning team in an NCAA game scores about 75.
K? Both things can be true. We don’t have an awful offense but we did have an awful offensive game

For all the people who want to crucify me over my comments on Kimani Young being a bad defensive coach, explain why St Mary’s is the 8th best defense on Ken Pom and UConn is 93 when UConn has an order of magnitude better player. they have faster players and more athletic players.

Down 4 they had 3 empty trips in a row. That could have overcome the awful OOB calls if they converted 1 or 2.
There's a lot of things they needed to overcome. Those two calls didn't need to be added to the list at that crucial point in the game.

St Mary’s plays in the WCC. Aiden Mahaney played competent defense in that conference. Go to bed.

Karaban having an atrocious all around game the night after having one of his best of the season is rough. Refs were awful but we just made way too many errors and could never hit the big shot when we had chances. We are what we’ve been all year; maddeningly inconsistent
Yup. This year is the Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde team. We were fortunate the last 2 seasons to have a team with multiple Winning Time performers. Not the case this time around.

Who we kidding? We’ve seen the whole season and know who we are. To think we had just turned a corner while only beating mediocre teams was getting ahead of ourselves. Buckle up. It’s March. Hope for the best. But should be a REALLY exciting offseason. Go huskies

I don't want to hear the folks "you can't blame the refs." Every single close game hinges on calls down the stretch. Whether you are playing great and up by 20, or lousy and down by 20, if it's close at the end of the game, refs are critical players. Those out of bounds calls killed the comeback. as for the big east, I believe it was best put forth most eloquently by the renowned sir kendrick lamar: They not like us.

They also get to play in the WCC. We aren’t learning anything from StM. If we want to look good beating up chumps to play the metrics and lose in the first round of the tourney we can follow their plan.

We need better players. Case closed.
Well we have three burger boys coming in. Can’t comment on current players but it would seem Hurley will be able to do his portal work by the end of next weekend. Maybe that means more success in roster construction.

I mean with who we have coming in and who we probably have staying we need 6’4”to 6’7” athletes who can handle the ball create their own shots and get to the basket. The problem is every other school is looking for the same thing.

I would also take a 6’ pg. But one that is quick/fast can get in the lane at will and he must be a good shooter. Those players are out there. That type player would have made such a difference with this team. I love Diarra but 8 of first 10 team point was the definition of fools gold. That was the first bad sign of the game.

Coach Hurley was loyal to our “Six Man of the Year”, backup point guard and our backup center. He made them starters after they contributed to the winning of back 2 back championships. That move made the bench weaker and created a drop off in our starting 5. Given what Samson went through in the beginning of his career and what the Diarra brothers mean to the program, I think our Coach did an honorable thing that most coaches ( Pitino, etc.) wouldn’t even consider. That’s what happened this season. Our Coach was loyal.
He doesn’t get paid 6mm a year to be loyal. We could get that out of a dog from the kennel.

Diarra is playing on one leg. He can't get by anyone and is scared to take shots.

Let’s hope a season with extra time and reflecting on the misses this year gets him more dialed in on his portal process. I have thought all along last years was distracted.

The frequency of AK not being able to close out on a 3pt shooter is nuts. And when he got close he fouled.
Definitely another rough one for Alex. After turning the corner recently and building on a string of 4 consecutive very good games, tonight he was horrible on both ends of the floor.

Our big run came with him on the bench.

Well it all starts over again next week. Let's see what happens when the lights shine the brightest. Can the coaching staff coach them up and can the players perform? We'll find out.

McDermott: "A 56 possession game with UConn tells you they're not scoring on their first option, and that we're making them go to multiple things...AND THEN WE THOUGHT WE HAD SOME MISMATCH OPPORTUNITIES WITH JASEN IN THE POST..."

I hate hearing that, but it's true- especially the second part, that's a flaw that's tough to overcome as we can only work with the pieces we have.
