I don’t like blaming refs but they botched a couple high leverage calls late. Ouch

Good comeback but just couldn’t get over the hump. MSG would have lit up if we tied it
Was there- barely any UConn contingency. I couldn’t believe my eyes.

For all the people who want to crucify me over my comments on Kimani Young being a bad defensive coach, explain why St Mary’s is the 8th best defense on Ken Pom and UConn is 93 when UConn has an order of magnitude better player. they have faster players and more athletic players.

Down 4 they had 3 empty trips in a row. That could have overcome the awful OOB calls if they converted 1 or 2.
There's a lot of things they needed to overcome. Those two calls didn't need to be added to the list at that crucial point in the game.

St Mary’s plays in the WCC. Aiden Mahaney played competent defense in that conference. Go to bed.

Karaban having an atrocious all around game the night after having one of his best of the season is rough. Refs were awful but we just made way too many errors and could never hit the big shot when we had chances. We are what we’ve been all year; maddeningly inconsistent
Yup. This year is the Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde team. We were fortunate the last 2 seasons to have a team with multiple Winning Time performers. Not the case this time around.

Who we kidding? We’ve seen the whole season and know who we are. To think we had just turned a corner while only beating mediocre teams was getting ahead of ourselves. Buckle up. It’s March. Hope for the best. But should be a REALLY exciting offseason. Go huskies

I don't want to hear the folks "you can't blame the refs." Every single close game hinges on calls down the stretch. Whether you are playing great and up by 20, or lousy and down by 20, if it's close at the end of the game, refs are critical players. Those out of bounds calls killed the comeback. as for the big east, I believe it was best put forth most eloquently by the renowned sir kendrick lamar: They not like us.

Aiden Mahaney and defense just two things that don't go together.

Well we have three burger boys coming in. Can’t comment on current players but it would seem Hurley will be able to do his portal work by the end of next weekend. Maybe that means more success in roster construction.

I mean with who we have coming in and who we probably have staying we need 6’4”to 6’7” athletes who can handle the ball create their own shots and get to the basket. The problem is every other school is looking for the same thing.

I would also take a 6’ pg. But one that is quick/fast can get in the lane at will and he must be a good shooter. Those players are out there. That type player would have made such a difference with this team. I love Diarra but 8 of first 10 team point was the definition of fools gold. That was the first bad sign of the game.
Diarra is playing on one leg. He can't get by anyone and is scared to take shots.

McDermott: "A 56 possession game with UConn tells you they're not scoring on their first option, and that we're making them go to multiple things...AND THEN WE THOUGHT WE HAD SOME MISMATCH OPPORTUNITIES WITH JASEN IN THE POST..."

I hate hearing that, but it's true- especially the second part, that's a flaw that's tough to overcome as we can only work with the pieces we have.

Come on man st Mary plays in the wcc the best team they play all year in Gonzaga.

Kimani is a great coach he just didn’t have the players this year. You can be the greatest coach in the world but if your player don’t learn from their mistakes or just are naturally not able to do things coaching doesn’t matter. Defense is as much about effort and attitude as it is about skill. If your players do t have it in them to want to be great defenders then you can’t scheme them into it.

Steph last year was not by his own admission great defensive player when he came to UConn but by the end of his time here was elite. Why because he wanted to be a great defender.

He deserves a spot in the Ring of Honor based solely on this

I can't remember being more proud of a UConn player than I was in this moment.

Hass's eyes locked on, left was LOADED. Lord help me for wishing he let one off.

We get it you're right. Everyone else is wrong.

We don't want a 6 foot point guard. That would make us incredibly small with Solo and Braylon looking like starters.

Especially the shot clock violation because the UConn players were standing around trying to figure out who should make the proper cuts, SMH. That one drew my ire.
I was yelling, "move!" at the TV

Coach Hurley was loyal to our “Six Man of the Year”, backup point guard and our backup center. He made them starters after they contributed to the winning of back 2 back championships. That move made the bench weaker and created a drop off in our starting 5. Given what Samson went through in the beginning of his career and what the Diarra brothers mean to the program, I think our Coach did an honorable thing that most coaches ( Pitino, etc.) wouldn’t even consider. That’s what happened this season. Our Coach was loyal.
That isn't why we weren't more sucessful. Reed while good is inconsistent and who was going to play PG on this year's team besides Diarra? He just missed on Mahaney and on our Sophomores picking up their game.

I guess he just wants someone who can penetrate like Kemba, Boaright and lesser extent Shabazz who can put pressure on the other team to collapse more. We didn't have that this year.

We're not going to win too many games if both Liam and Alex shoot that poorly.

Combined: 9 - 30 and 0 - 8 from three.

Considering the above, we made the game compelling.
yep : You can try as hard as you want but if you cant make shots
and your not going to the line you aren’t coming back
Its about Stops and Pops
We actually got enough stops to make a tossup at the end but couldn’t knock anything down.
