Creighton Post game thread

Open your eyes, Kimani been carried, by exceptional defensive players like Jackson, Clingan, and Castle. there is no cleverness or strategy in their defense. Hurley’s demand for toughness on defense has carried it. They play a basic man to man with a stupid high hedge. A good defensive coach can mold a good defense twitch average players. UConn’s defensive strategy the entire year has been the exact same defense as last year and it hasn’t worked well all season. On the flip side offense has great movement and a lot of easy baskets.
Thank you for your support of UConn basketball

They see a guy who is athletic but gets back down by a 6'6" unathletic player with ease. There is a reason why he is coming out of games a lot even thought we need his offense. His defense is so bad and unplayable at times. I will give you he has added a mid range game to his offense but to stay on the court he really needs to improve his D in the offseason.
Well, he's giving up 3 to 4 inches when he gets backed down. I think having 2 short guards has been a huge detriment this season and why UConn needs to get another taller player with experience at the guard position. Adams will help at 6'5 but you need an experienced player to take pressure off him as a freshman. I am with Super John, I think we are being a bit tough on Solo. It's really his first full year of playing significant minutes. I will certainly expect more next year, but I think he did a pretty damn good job and has improved on both ends of the floor.

Game flipped our way once Reed got in. You can make all the analytics arguments you want for starting Samson, but in this game, with that big of a mismatch? That was such a dumb coaching decision.
Clearly Hurley should be asking us what to do. I agree.

he is more smooth. He isn't known as being a great athlete and definitely not a great defensive player. We need to hit the portal hard to top notch athletes who can play great D for us
I hear you, but Newton wasn't a great defensive player. I think his height will be a welcomed addition next year. He has to get stronger, that's for sure, but being smooth is far from being slow. Karaban is slow. LOL......but I will welcome taller guards who can get to the rim and look for contact any day.

He averaged 35 mpg this Big East season before tonight.

I think his unbelievable success in back to back seasons had him believing he could turn anyone into what he wants them to be. In a way that massive back to back success led to this flawed roster.

I'm a bit worried about this freshman class despite 3 burger boys.
Yeah well that has certainly crashed to earth with a thud

If this season proved anything it’s that the system needs to be adaptable to the players and not vice versa

We are what we are, whatever hand we get dealt from by the committee we have no one to blame but ourselves. Getting off to bad starts has been a trend that to the suprise of no one has cost us, and we had way too many missed opportunities in the 2nd half.

Yes I would rather get our asses kicked by St John’s tomorrow, sick and tired of losing to Creighton, that dunk by Neal I hope lights our fire going into the tournament and going into future matchups with Creighton.
I think it will. We deserve more respect and actually get it outside our conference

Jeez, all the gloom and doom in this thread. I had to stop reading a few pages in. 5 years ago we all would have been thrilled with this team. We just won back to back and a three-peat is still possible. We always lose to Creighton. The Big East refs are always against us. Whatever. It’s tourney time, one game at a time. I think this team will surprise us and I chose to be positive unlike most of you.

I'm aware but when people say all he does is shoot it just isn't true and being the best shooter in the Big East is a pretty big deal. He was our most consistent offensive player this year. You wouldn't know it from reading this board.
NO ONE is saying he’s not a good shooter. You realize this isn’t baseball and he’s not a designated hitter right?? He actually has to play defense too.

Especially the shot clock violation because the UConn players were standing around trying to figure out who should make the proper cuts, SMH. That one drew my ire.
I was yelling, "move!" at the TV
They were moving around like Jack rabbits during their run. Then came out of the timeout looking like they were wearing cement shoes.

I knew we were in trouble when I saw them all standing around looking at each other. We become easily guardable when they run slow sets and/or stand around. Hard to believe that's what happened after a time out.

Sometimes it's about focus with Solo. He didn't box out twice tonight and the shooter followed his shot all the way from the perimeter and got a putback. The 2nd time Dan Hurley took him out. Guys need to be locked in and focused on details and fundamentals. Need better depth so guys making the same mistake over and over can head to bench until they get the message.

I think the defensive issues really start and stop with the forwards. Karaban and McNeeley together just don't have the foot speed to defend at a high level. It's no wonder UConn seemed to be making more stops once Karaban left the floor and Steward came in. UConn instantly became much quicker and was able to defend much better as the game wore on.

We didn't lose the game because of Samson Johnson. We lost it because it because Karaban and McNeeley were awful.
That's crap. Johnson invites penetration. It's not his fault. He sucks at the 5. This isn't rocket science.

those were absolutely maddening. Gave up 5 points off those 2 boards. At this time of the year, and against a quality team, inexcusable.

yep : You can try as hard as you want but if you cant make shots
and your not going to the line you aren’t coming back
Its about Stops and Pops
We actually got enough stops to make a tossup at the end but couldn’t knock anything down.
they made nowhere near enough stops to win the game
