I think Tristran is the player we miss the most. Followed by Castle as defensive stopper, then CamYou would "even" take a Tristan Newton? What? What's the matter with you?
Why we put Ball or Mahaney on a 6’8” 230# guy in the post is mind boggling.McDermott: "A 56 possession game with UConn tells you they're not scoring on their first option, and that we're making them go to multiple things...AND THEN WE THOUGHT WE HAD SOME MISMATCH OPPORTUNITIES WITH JASEN IN THE POST..."
I hate hearing that, but it's true- especially the second part, that's a flaw that's tough to overcome as we can only work with the pieces we have.
It is good for Hurley to have a formidable in conference coach like McDermot. it will make him better, strongerHurley is Mcdermotts bitch at UConn that’s for damn sure. Thete is enough evidence to declare a trend
Have you seen our team? Everyone on the team has drawbacks. He was the least of our problems this season. Our preseason all-American shot 15% from three for a significant chunk of the Big East season. Our star freshman was out for 5 weeks and now can't guard anyone the past 4 games and he's forcing everything on offense. Our starting center can't deal with the top centers in the league and still has a fouling problem. Our starting point guard should've been back in his 6th man role and has been playing on one leg for a while. Our backup center is great in spurts but only plays half the game and still has a fouling problem. Our backup point guard isn't a point guard and had a dud of a season until the last couple of games. Our backup wings have been unplayable for a lot of the season.Out of necessity - have you seen our bench? You have a crush here - it’s warranted for what he does well, there are also many drawbacks.
I get it this season, but in thinking ahead to a balanced and well insured roster next year, I would hesitate to put all my eggs in that basket without having options that balance out the roster. Would prefer my pure shooter to be more of the 3 profile than the 2. If we’re going to role out a smallish pure shooter 2 without much handle or playmaking you want to have that in at least two other places or off the bench. I just don’t like having a one dimensional shooter at the 2.Have you seen our team? Everyone on the team has drawbacks. He was the least of our problems this season. Despite his flaws Solo has been our one consistent offensive player all season and you consistently cr@p on him as do as bunch of other posters. We would've sucked without him this season.
Now FIVE posts where you have not said ONE word about his defense. Which speaks volumes Again, basketball is a TWO WAY game. I don’t care if you shoot 60% from 3, if you can’t guard it means nothing. Scoring 15 while your opponent scores 20 makes you a net LIABILITY.Have you seen our team? Everyone on the team has drawbacks. He was the least of our problems this season. Newton became a really good defensive player. It would of been good to have him playing against some of our competition this year. I think you were thinking early on Newton. He became a lot better playing defense and used his body to keep people in front of him.I hear you, but Newton wasn't a great defensive player. I think his height will be a welcomed addition next year. He has to get stronger, that's for sure, but being smooth is far from being slow. Karaban is slow. LOL......but I will welcome taller guards who can get to the rim and look for contact any day.
For all the people who want to crucify me over my comments on Kimani Young being a bad defensive coach, explain why St Mary’s is the 8th best defense on Ken Pom and UConn is 93 when UConn has an order of magnitude better player. they have faster players and more athletic players.
Yeah switching on defense only works when you have guys with good height all across the lineup so you aren't a huge disadvantage. Why we put Ball or Mahaney on a 6’8” 230# guy in the post is mind boggling.
He's not good defensively, nobody is on this team. He happens to be our leading scorer in Big East play and our only efficient scorer who isn't a center. Of course I'm going to talk about him scoring the ball, you have to put the ball in the hoop to actually win games and he's the only one who does it consistently. Now FIVE posts where you have not said ONE word about his defense. I know you know this because you’ve gone to great lengths to avoid it
Solo hit a 3 early in the second half and then didn’t box out on the next possession. Hurley immediately subbed in Mahaney for him.Not one of those stats is a reflection of how piss poor he is as a defender
What?".....I came from Michigan to set screens at the three point line...."
all season the same thing... we get called every bump on way to hoop and he can do whatever he wants - no call. Not the reason we lost, but Kalk only getting called for 1 foul with all the contact he made with our guys driving in the lane for layups sums up the BE refereeing issues nicely.
you are way off base here.... we get called all day long for the same plays where there r no calls on Kalk.I’m sorry but I couldn’t disagree with this more. A defender is allowed verticality to challenge shots. Our drivers are imitating contact. We watched Clingan do this all last year and Emeka and Jake were especially good at it as well.
agreed and the officiating? were obviously not wanted- that much is clear. we should leave and do best we can to help football as well in next decision.A lot of blame should be put on UConn's Athletic Director for not getting us into the ACC over the past many years. Its only going to get worse as NIL dynamics are really starting to accelerate. The BE is a dying conference...and everyone knows it.

I can't remember being more proud of a UConn player than I was in this moment.
Hass's eyes locked on, left was LOADED. Lord help me for wishing he let one off.
They would sell a lot of NIL shirts if someone could print that Diarra photo on it.close to Rod Sellers bouncing Laettner's head
Reed was on the bench for most of the first half. He provides a back-up to our weak inability to stay in front of players. That hurt a lot.Reed +11 Stewart +5 Mahaney +2 - When they went out the comeback stopped
