Karaban having an atrocious all around game the night after having one of his best of the season is rough. Refs were awful but we just made way too many errors and could never hit the big shot when we had chances. We are what we’ve been all year; maddeningly inconsistent
The frequency of AK not being able to close out on a 3pt shooter is nuts. And when he got close he fouled.

Let’s call what we saw from the officiating just from a general fans perspective the 2 out of bounds calls need to be addressed very easy calls to make how do you miss that and how do you keep your job?

All Val does is virtue signal and does nothing to fix the BE officiating and only gotten worse.

I think it would probably be Kansas or UNC, even though I don't think UNC should be in the tournament
I wasn't serious of course, and the selection committee wouldn't do that, but I would be fine with KU or UNC. Neither really scare me, and we are better playing a high profile team from a mental psyche standpoint.

I would also like Duke in 2nd round if we get past the first. The only way this team is going to go very far is by keeping their attention and focus by playing high profile teams.

This. We’re not athletic and we don’t have a top notch rim protector to cover up for it. It’s a tough combo.
Take a look a St Mary’s. They are good at defense every year and have way less natural talent than UCon

I am in complete agreement. McD has no justification there
I love the guy but Hurley brings that out everywhere he goes. Spends more time on the refs then strategy. Thank god for sister and Clingan

First, you gotta spell “awful” right. Second, for all the flaws this team has calling out the “offensive scheme” on a top 15 offensive team that hasn’t even played particularly well this season after rolling over college basketball the last two seasons is really dumb. Even in a place where dumb takes grow on trees.

See you all Sunday.
UConn doesn't have the same personnel as the last two years. The "e" in awEful raises the question: Do they even have a player who can dunk besides Reed & Johnson. Have seen to much evidence of that. Too unathletic.

I’m sorry but I couldn’t disagree with this more. A defender is allowed verticality to challenge shots. Our drivers are imitating contact. We watched Clingan do this all last year and Emeka and Jake were especially good at it as well.
He is good, but he's not perfect. I saw at least 2 fouls in the 2nd half alone The worst one was he went body to body with McNeeley and also hit the wrist. Still no call. Never-mind the 2nd out of bounds call that Creighton got was clearly off of Kalk's hands. He can do no wrong in the ref's eyes. The perfect player.

You are spot on. I replayed a few of Kalk's defensive plays and he jumped vertically. None of those late drives were fouls. With that said the foul disparity looked suspect.

Try some video study Hurley. That team cannot run that offense. They don't have a Newton or Spencer to create a shot at the last second. Just get the ball down court and launch a shot or attack the hoop. Feed anyone that seems hot. Maybe he goes on a tear. Hurley's offense was cute when he had the players, can't run it with these skilled challenged players.
I agree a coach is going to tend towards the system they know best and has worked in the past. Two Nattys is a pretty strong endorsement in anyone's book. But we probably need to employ some wrinkle or flexibility without causing a bunch of confusion by deviating too much from what we've been doing. It looked like a couple of guys could have had a hot hand tonight but we spread things around so much we never get to find out. Too bad about Diarra. Comes out like fire then isn't as much of a factor late. I feel like if he was fully healthy he could be the difference in a number of these games.

Down 4 they had 3 empty trips in a row. That could have overcome the awful OOB calls if they converted 1 or 2.
Yeah that felt like the game when we came out of their timeout and ran junk offense.

The twilight zone season continues:

-3 Shot Clock Violations
-75% def 1st half / 30% Def second half
-Samson Johnson nothing / Reed game changer (the inverse will happen next game, for certain)
-Solo seemed to be on the bench in important offensive posessions tonight
-2 back to back blown OOB calls
-McNeeley all of a sudden can't finish at the rim....or play defense
-another game with a huge FT differential on a bogus 3pt foul call, 2 additional AK phantom fouls, and zero calls on Liam. Refs threw a wet blanket on AK tonight.

I don't know....this team can play great in spurts....but to count on them to be consistent for twelve halves feels daunting, if not impossible. The only consistency this team has is it's inconsistency. Very low floor, high ceiling

Yes but it doesn't cure our athleticism problem. It's not an athletic class and they're slight in build. We have to hit the portal hard to fix the problems.
Or we can continue the long tradition of struggling against the Pitt's and current-day St. John's in the Big East, while winning national titles.

A little bit of beefing up physically and athletically is a certainly good idea, but no need to fix what isn't broken.

Coach Hurley was loyal to our “Six Man of the Year”, backup point guard and our backup center. He made them starters after they contributed to the winning of back 2 back championships. That move made the bench weaker and created a drop off in our starting 5. Given what Samson went through in the beginning of his career and what the Diarra brothers mean to the program, I think our Coach did an honorable thing that most coaches ( Pitino, etc.) wouldn’t even consider. That’s what happened this season. Our Coach was loyal.

We scored 62 points. Let's look at some NCAA stats.
  • Average total score: 143.6 points
  • Average margin of victory: 8.9 points
The winning team’s score can be estimated by splitting the total score and accounting for the margin. If the total is 143.6, the midpoint would be 71.8 points per team in a tied scenario. Adding half of the margin of victory (4.45 points) to the winning team’s share gives:
  • Winning team: 71.8 + 4.45 = 76.25 points
  • Losing team: 71.8 - 4.45 = 67.35 points
This calculation aligns with the observed trend that winning teams in NCAA men's basketball games typically score in the mid-70s. Rounding for simplicity, the average points scored by the winning team is approximately 76 points.

They also get to play in the WCC. We aren’t learning anything from StM. If we want to look good beating up chumps to play the metrics and lose in the first round of the tourney we can follow their plan.

We need better players. Case closed.

Well let’s see if we can scratch out one tourney win. That was a poorly played, coached and although it did not impact the outcome you can throw officiating in there too.

The out-coached part is key. If he had played Tarris earlier in the 2nd half could have been a different outcome. Nothing against Johnson but if not Tarris we should have went small to get Kalkbrenner out of the paint. Don’t get the lack of adjustment there on the staffs part.

Liam and Alex 0-8 from three. They defended us just like we defended Purdue. So that just increases the dislike meter for me on McDermott. The love affair he has with BE officials is already too much but now he has to copy us to beat us…..this game stunk…..

The key sequence in the first half really happened at 28-28. We have the ball come down and Hass takes a 3 pt shot with like 15 seconds left on the shot clock. Next possession Alex takes an NBa 3 pretty early in the shot clock next possession Hass dribbles down into the paint could have pulled it back out instead takes a contested shot. All the while creighton keeps scoring.

The other bad sequence was down 4 with all the momentum we again take a couple of bad jumpers instead of doing what we did to get the lead down to four. We never went inside to tarris it was clear kalk could not handle him down low but we never threw it into him
