Hey ... tired of grown men slamming kids
Agreed, but poor choice of words...

haha that was great.

Plenty of kids exploited that grad transfer rule. We should look there then go all in for Dorsey. Would make a ton of sense.

and if Boat ends up staying great. Just don't see that.

Unless Boat can shoot 2011-12 Brady Heslip type #'s from downtown in 2013-14 I am very confident he will be back at UConn. That is close to the threshold he needs to be at to have a chance at a guaranteed contract in the NBA. I believe he can get very close to that # his senior year with more rigorous Max Hooper type shooting drills. Even though many are cool on Boatright as an NBA prospect I sincerely believe he has a legit shot to go late 1st road after 4 years at UConn. If he leaves after this year its undrafted even if he has a solid year (which I think he will).

JMHO...

At this point we're praying for Boat to come back, otherwise we'll be depending on either Purvis to be able to play PG full time or for Samuel to be at the level of a starter on a team with NCAA Tournament aspirations.

I have a feeling that most the kids on next years team are going to stay more than one year. I have no problem with Terrence Samuel starting at pg as a sophomore. Especially if it means cresting chemistry with Purvis, Hamilton, Calhoun, Facey for the next year and a possible NCAA championship.

We don't need another pg as much as we need another Big Man in my opinion. As long as we get a solid pg/ballhandler we will be fine. We will have plenty of firepower with Dham, Purvis, and Calhoun. We aren't in dire need to have guy like Snider. We will find someone though.

I really really despise the doom and gloom attitude that you and other posters here seem to possess in regard to not grabbing a top 50 pg.

Not saying I personally dislike you or any other poster. Because I really don't know any of you. But the doom and gloom stuff frustrates me. It just seems unwarranted. Especially when it is over recruiting guys whom most of us have never seen play and may not have near the effect that expectations presume.

Bummer. Keep moving down the list. So no Plan A, B, or C. Are we on to D or F?
Last time I checked Shabazz was Plan D in his recruiting class. That seems to have worked out ok. Rankings aren't everything.

I don't think Samuel will be ready as a Sophomore. Need a true PG to start or even back up Purvis.

Kind of new we weren't gonna get him. It's going to take Ollie more than a meaningless 20-10 season to prove he can really coach and prepare those for the NBA.

Its weird that i really dont care when we miss out on recruits. I think ive been spoiled by us being so good and finding diamonds in the rough that i expect it to happen all the time. The only time i get excited about recruiting is when we sign a big time recruit. Other than that im not huge on the which guys going where and the oh man i hope that guy comes here stuff. Ive seen too many big time recruits not choose uconn only for them to either get into trouble or not be the player many expect or we end up with a plan b recruit who turns into a star.

If KO and the staff can get Quentin on a visit to Storrs our chances will grow. That would seem to be an issue with his sudden adoration of the Illini and Bruins. But let's wait on this, dad may still have a say!

I hope Larrier comes to Storrs at the same time as the Heart of a Champion event this month. That would be a nice time for another visit to UConn if he hasn't committed yet.

Samuel has terrific court vision and the frame to be a physical specimen. He just needs to tighten his handle and develop some go-to moves. Hard work and patience should be his mantra.

We've won national titles with starting guards who lacked jump shots (Ricky, Taliek). If the talent is there around them at other starting perimeter spots, it's fine (as long as the jump shot lacker brings something else to the table).

When you have the whole perimeter lacking jump shots (Kemba-Dyson-Sticks), you have problems - mainly a "clogged toilet" offense. Don't know yet what Purvis and Hamilton will provide in that regard. Omar will stretch the D, but if Purvis and Hamilton are iffy three-point shooters for us, then Samuel might indeed not be a great fit.

even tho highly unlikely, there's always a small, small, SMALL chance that Boatright comes back for his senior season and could be our PG and leader. Wishful thinking. Would love to have Boat, Purvis, D-Ham, (fingers crossed on Abu) and whoever at the C.

Assuming Facey's eligibility issues get cleared up he's good enough to start at PF whether Abu lands here or not.

I hope Boat improves enough where it is cut and dry that he leaves. Means we'll be really good this year. But if he stagnates or needs to show he can run an offense full-time in order to be drafted, his best option will be to stay. Unless he'd rather have his Plan B to be making money in Europe rather than going to classes for another year - which is certainly possible.
