My thinking is if were not allowed to play in next years NCAA tourney, both Drummond and Lamb will most certainly leave for the $$$$$$$$$$ and this could be the beginning of the end for Coach Calhoun. You really cant blame these kids for what happen in the past and also if they leave for the other side. These kids paly for Championships and as it looks now there is no chance of that happening now. So sad because if this team remained intact next year could be very special.

I'd be willing to bet that UConn will be declared eligible for the tourney next year. Pretty sure they are reviewing the standards anyways, which would make UConn eligible. Besides, if everyone is back with the addition of Omar, why would they hold this team out? An elite UConn team potentially would get a lot more eye balls than letting a 18-14 bubble team in.

Just some advice... no matter which side of an issue you are on, if you post your opinion if that issue on the internet somebody is gonna disagree with you. The replies here were not too harsh by Boneyard standards, have a look at the replies to Henry's post for a taste of what a disagreement looks like... People are passionate, defensive, and quick to argue, if you have a thin skin or are looking for validation this isn't the best place for that.

people sometimes like to be snarky and sarcastic and think it's clever. it often takes newbies a bit of time to get used to it. having said that, given coaches health issues, sure - never know if/when he's gonna hang up his boots, so to speak...

Calhoun would never leave the program he built while it's in shambles. I expect him to weather this storm.

Does he have the stomach to prepare the team to transition to a new coach? Despite what people think from my earlier thread I am not pushing for him to leave but most coaches are not very good at knowing when to pass the torch. Ollie was a great addition to the staff. If Coach Calhoun sees him as the successor he needs to promote him to Blaney's position. Blaney can still stay as an assistant but they have to give Kevin Ollie more responsibility. This team has the players to succeed but just needs to start winning games. There's not much Calhoun needs to do beyond getting them to win games and play as a team.

UConn will be fine, whether Calhoun leaves this year or in 3 years. We have Kevin Ollie who does most of the recruiting anyways. We still have a solid coaching staff besides him and let's not forget about our new $30 million basketball facility that's attractive to young recruits. I'm also 70% sure that UConn will find a way to be eligible for the 2013 tournament. Don't get me wrong with Calhoun gone we will take some what of a hit but we have a stable enough basketball program to get through it. In addition, it always seems like we win a national championship when we need it most.

I think a good time for JC to move on will be after JC wins another title and passes Knight on the wins list.

I agree but if he cant physically coach any longer then its time to leave and he knows that. im sure its killing him that he cant be on the sidelines right now but from what the reports said, he couldnt even move around. He has the fire to coach for the next 10 years but the number one decision maker on that is his health. Now his health is a big question mark going forward.

JC has two years left on his contract. He supports Ollie as a replacement. There are many scenarios that could play out over the next two years.

Here's what we know: Next year could be very good with everyone returning including the coach and an NCAA tourney appearance and a couple 5 star recruits. Or it could suck with Blaney and Ollie splitting time at coaching, a teary farewell to Jim Calhoun, an NCAA snub, and some costly (APR) off season movement and early departures replaced with last-minute 3-star recruits.

Clear?

Obviously, if this APR ruling doesn't turn in our favor, 2013 will be a lost year. We likely won't be very good, since Lamb and Drummond would definitely leave and no additional recruits would come in. But really, it wouldn't matter all that much because we'd be ineligible for the postseason anyway.

But from a big picture standpoint, it just makes the 2013 recruiting class incredibly important. We (hopefully) would still have a very experienced core of Napier, Boatright, Calhoun, Daniels, Smith, Giffey, Olander, and Bradley to go along with whoever we bring in for the 2013 class.

Next year could be a really, really, excruciatingly long and boring year with nothing to play for. But that doesn't automatically mean it will set us back to 1988.

Until Drummond's injury I thought he could be back, but that tweaked ankle just might be enough in his mind to keep him from taking the risk. If he was guaranteed not to be injured I think regardless of the money he would stay, and so would Lamb. These guys are just 0ne ligament away from a whole career going down the drain.
