Possibly Diggins and Gaffney are leaving under the presumption the Corey Floyd, Jr. is ready to take the reigns and they’d be a back to Floyd. Tempering my expectations but we’ll see

Taking what reigns? Is he going to be a PG--absolutely not unless he game has substantially changed in the last year. Can he be a leader on the team? Sure thing.

Redshirting him was a big mistake in retrospect. Knowing the kind of kid he is he will be ready but it sure would have helped if he had like a year of 10-12 minutes per to help ease the transition and we really could have used him.

He’s definitely not a true PG though. He operated much better off ball for RC and Final. Working him off screens was the play.

I think they redshirted him because they thought Gaffney and Diggins would be bigger contributors which would have allowed Cole to play off the ball more. It was obviously a big miscalculation but whatever, now we have him for 4 full seasons if he wants to stay that long.

Probably true if just thinking about what's best for UConn 21-22.
But of course it has to be more about what's best for the person & player and it could very well be that Floyd benefits from a year of acclimation to school & the basketball program and finds the balance that makes for a much better long-term result.

Oh good grief. No it wasn't. The plan FROM DAY ONE was to redshirt him. He came in knowing he would be redshirted. He is going to be the age of most freshman this year. Last year was an extended practice season for him, just like it was for KAraban and Akok before that.

Barring calamitous injury, we weren't burning the redshirt.. We had a better regular season record than we've had in the better part of a decade. Our season was fantastic without him. How many more games could we actually have won? 1? 2? At most? And probably not likely, because freshman really aren't that good.

Just because our coach blew it in the tournament again doesn't mean we should have burned a redshirt. This take is, was, and will be stupid.

I think the toughest of Floyd over came the both of them. They seen it all year at practice last year

Sure, let’s go with this.

Also, Clingan can hold the ball over the team’s heads so he’s like a point guard in the sky.

Love Clingan. He is a gem when it comes to intangables.
Hold the ball in the sky love it.
He will surprise everyone with his heart and ability.
Ct kd instant fan favorite. Move Sonogo to the 4 and play him and DC at the same time.

I disagree with you on this, if Floyd was a better option than Gaffney and Diggins it was a mistake not playing him. We were a guard short all year long and it really hamstrung the team.

Clingan seems like a great kid and will be a good one at UConn, but it’s wild to suggest moving a first team all big East player out of position for a kid who has never played a minute of college bball. If you thought our team couldn’t shoot last year, any team playing DC and Sanogo at the same time would make them look like the 2018 Warriors.

Well it really depends on when Floyd emerged as a better option. I assume he had his freshman growing pains, especially considering he reclassed late. Its a question none of us will ever know the answer to without having seen the sausage getting made.

And none of us are getting paid to make that sausage. Hurley is.

Floyd speculation not necessary. Point issue will be addressed in portal.

Unless Sanogo really improves his shooting I don’t think this will happen

Time will tell
Sanogo should be adapting into a 4
Maybe the following two years it will happen

He has trouble finishing inside of three feet. His range extends to maybe 12 feet. He should be focusing on passing out of double teams and finishing at the rim. Playing a lineup of DC, Sanogo and Jackson is ridiculous in today’s game. Calling for our first team big East center and best returning player to make room for DC is just not a good idea.

He also struggles defending quicker players, especially on the perimeter. It’s not a knock on him, it’s just not his game. He’s not a 4 in the modern game. Full stop.

Absolutely. An extra win or two changes our seed, matchups, etc. and we are a stronger deeper team. On a team that seemed to lack productive guards I think burning the red shirt would have made perfect sense. This kid is tough and a baller. If he even made the team incrementally better it would have been worth playing him.

It would be cool if two entire underachieving rosters could transfer to different programs and the opposing coaches make a private bet between themselves on which coach gets more out of them.

I think it depends not on whether he was a better option than Gaffney or Diggins, but whether he was a good option. It would make no sense to put him out there just to fail less than the other two guys.

In any event, I’m really looking forward to seeing what he can do.
