Duke is a massive team - they have an NBA sized roster and all three frosh are first rounders, if not lottery picks. They’re going to present defensive challenges to anyone they play.

I find the approach Scheyer took really interesting as it’s fully counter to Hurley as he practically flushed continuity. He pushed all his underachievers into the portal, brought in a haul of 5 stars mixed with 3 older portal kids to become the core of the team along with Proctor. Foster has even moved from starter to bench to now deep bench. It’s clear he’s much less on loyalty and continuity and much higher on pure talent. Let’s see if it works through March, and if it does, if it sets any tone on decision making with this UConn staff who puts emphasis on continuity.

Duke, Houston and UK will have big hauls coming in 2025.

Nor am I. I just find it interesting. I’ll be curious to see if that young man hits the portal or not. These days who a program gets coming out of high school is often only one piece of the puzzle given the portal dynamics.

I promise you Hurley won't be looking towards Jon Scheyer for answers on how to run his program.

You left out UConn and our big haul coming in '25.

I REALLY like our haul and could give a hoot at other schools’ hauls. Not jealous of the alleged Ferraris that will be in their driveways at all.

Often a big part of winning is adapting to trends - no more Covid year, portal, all change the landscape annually. And I guarantee you if Duke wins it, he will. Hurley is not ignorant.

Am I in the minority in really hoping we are the 2 or 3 seed in the east with Duke? I'd even be okay with 4 or 5. Of course winning another region to see them in the FF would be great, but I would like nothing more that to see that game regardless. I think it could be a epic game.
 
he's legit. the ACC is also a steaming trash-heap outside of duke.

Would love to see them, it's always fun beating Duke in the tournament.

Watched the game pre-Uconn game.
Lots of ISO play with him, and He went off on 3 pt shot which he usually is not good at.
they don't run things at all and lots of standing around when he has the rock.
It's all a risk when it comes to March when/if he has an off night.

Not a sour grape, just saying i'd not trade McNeeley for Flagg at this point.

They run bad stuff b/c of Scheyer, not Flagg – who would be even better in our system.

I'd trade any two of our guys for Flagg without a second's hesitation.

Love McNeeley and think he’s a great fit but let me sell you not one, but two sets of blue colored contacts because you have lost all objectivity if you wouldn’t take a co leader for player of the year.

And for those wanting some Duke in March, I’ll take them too, in the CG game. If you want them any earlier, I’ll get you a buy one get another pair free deal.

I don't care when we get them. Beating them in the title game or final 4 would be fun but beating them to keep them out of the final 4 would also be fun.

And Nothing will make me happier if they should meet whenever, McNeeley wins the match or we beat them.

I dislike Duke and meeting and beating them would be pretty sweet. The kid is great, Liam is great, no reason to get all defensive about though.

Flagg has to lead his team and win a National Championship as a freshman if he wants to be compared to Carmelo Anthony. I think it would boil down to coaches, that being said I’d take Nosepicker over Scheyer any day.

Their defense is 100% what separates them. They have a legit rim protector at the 5, and another at the 4 and length 1-3. KPD2 behind Houston who seems to game the system by slaughtering lambs, yet have lost to every top 25 team they’ve played along with SDSU.

To someone’s post, Scheyer runs a drab iso offense but the defensive talent on this squad may be able to overcome that. We shall see, it’s why they play the games. ND did make it close at the end but Duke was up in that game by 18 with 6 minutes to go and in command throughout. Not much diff than our game against Gtown as a young team that sleptwalk down the stretch.

Cooper Flagg and Maluach come to UConn: OMG Generational defenders, they'll be impossible to score on in March!

They go to Duke: How will Duke win with that putrid, freshmen laden defense? Scheyer is in over his head!

I don't know if I agree with that. Flagg and Anthony are apples and oranges. Anthony was a hell of a player but he was not even an average defensive player. I have watched pretty much every game Flagg has played and I have to say he is absolutely legit. One of the best freshmen I have seen in college in many, many years. I think what makes Flagg so special is that he is dominant in both ends of the floor. Would I have liked to have seen him at UConn? Of course. He is the best player I have seen all year. Duke will go as far as Flagg can carry them which I believe is very, very far. Don't compare him to Zion Williamson either. Williamson is soft. He has the talent to be an all time great but he doesn't have the mindset. Flagg is a straight up killer.
