Confirmed UConn pursuit of Wisconsin transfer Serah Williams

Ball handling won't be the issue next season with KK and Kelis but consistent three-point shooting from the guard position will be if Azzi doesn't return.......I expect a big jump from Allie who along with Sarah and Ashlynn will provide the bulk of the outside firepower but perhaps another sharpshooter from the transfer portal should be considered......
What makes Azzi unique is her ability to (1) shoot the 3, (2) pull-up jumper and (3) drive to the basket. No one else on the team has demonstrated that skill set to date. In addition her time in grade and experience, she is a natural leader. Even more than Azzi, Caroline has the presence and resume to assist with leadership, both on or off the court.

that's my point..........if Azzi chooses not to come back UConn could use an additional outside shooter even though no transfer could totally replace her unique set of skills.....

Since it’s confirmed that Geno and staff are pursuing her, we should leave it to him and the staff with getting players that make us better. Getting Williams would be a great addition.
It’s not given that Strong would have consistent help next year. I would hope that Ashlynn becomes more consistent when she is moved into the starting line up next year. I’m also expecting Azzi to depart for the WNBA after this season.
But Williams is a proven scorer and rebounder. I don’t want to hear about her not being able to contain Betts. Based on their match up, Betts wasn’t able to contain Serah either. Granted her major is nursing, but if she wants a shot at the WNBA, going to UConn would be the best option.

We don't know that Jana is not the answer. Most post players take time to adjust. Jana is no different. Technically, this is her freshman year. Maybe she takes that sophmore leap. Or like Stef Dolson, takes the Junior leap.

I guess Azzi and Ash don't have a midrange?? I would have t disagree with that
Agree that it isn’t known if Jana is a shot-blocker yet (which was the original assertion). Besides being a big which generally means it takes longer to develop, she is still recovering from Achilles injury- that may be hampering her leaping ability. Her offensive game is developing nicely

Serah Sarah sounds so much more near term (like next year) than Que Que.
I might be missing something here:confused:, but I was referring to Que Que Arnold.

The Canadiens had the French Connection hockey line, and we can have the Que Que Serah Sarah fast break score.

More info on Serah. She was 2 time all big 10, and big 10 defensive player of the year! No wonder Geno is interested.

The only bad news out there is every other top team is interested too, so will be a recruiting battle.

On nursing, UConn offers programs, and Geno is very supportive of academics. Her basketball eligibility will be only 1 season, so surely they can find a way to structure the schooling in a smart way, with no clinical during basketball. She plans to go WNBA, so also no hurry to finalize the nursing requirements.

I hope she comes to UConn, but if not as they say...KK Serah Sarah.

Ash is shooting 41% from 3. Perhaps you meant to say she should look for her shot more, especially in high pressure games.
If Ash would add the ability to drive to the basket and be a perceived threat there, it would open up the 3 and the short post up jumper.

Ash can drive to the basket, she actually scores plenty via layup.
The issue she has faced in Ncaa, however, is defenders are often quick, with a giant rim protector lurking. It's been hard for her to get cleanly to the rim with her high school moves. More drives would also be more free throws.

This is also what makes KK so special. KK is quick enough to easily get to the rim. They nicely complement each other.

Ash will keep working at it. If it improves like her defense, she'll get there.

The next great shooter at UConn is already on campus and she will show everyone next season just how good she really is! I give you….Allie Ziebell!

I know what she's capable of........now she just has to go out and do it.......

This is sort of true and sort of false. Sarah is a post player in much the same way Paige is a PG. She rebounds and blocks shots like a demon and is a brilliant scorer on the low post and is especially good at receiving passes into the post. But she doesn’t look like a post player because she’s not 6’5”. More importantly, she does so much else a post player doesn’t typically do.

As for Ayanna, she looks very much like a typical post player to me. She rebounds and defends well and knows how to muscle taller players off the block. She may not be the scoring talent Sarah is and doesn’t have a midrange or perimeter shot like Sarah. Also, she’s not 6’5”. But that’s not really necessary. She plays big. If we can get that Ayanna back, the one who is strong and quick in the low post, she’d be a real asset.

Consider our main rival, SC. They don’t start a post player larger than 6’3”. And yet no one thinks they don’t have a post presence.
Let's agree to disagree.

The only thing standing in Allie’s way is defensive proficiency. That’s how she’ll get into games earlier, where she can show the world what she can do on offense. I suspect she’s been working on this full bore even now and will continue to do so over the summer.

speaking of Serah Williams..................as long as Allie is making shots, she's going to play big minutes next season unless her defense is atrocious.......

Except Paige, Sarah, Ash, and Kaitlyn.
The reference was to skill sets on next years team, and to specifically address leadership roles. Sarah does indeed possess that skill set but has a personality that to date defers to others on leadership. Ash has not shown any proficiency in the ability to drive to the basket.

Hey, Serah…

“I believe in this team so much," Fudd said after UConn won the Big East Tournament.

Any coach would like another piece, and if you handed Auriemma a magic wand, he'd probably conjure a veteran post player.

I think you should bite your tongue. It appears you are just trying to be contradictory. Sarah is a freshman, while she has the skills but remember she has Paige, Azzi and others who are already the player you want Sarah to be. Next year there will be at least 3 players no longer at UConn, plenty of time for Sara to become that leader you claim she now defers too. Open your eyes, Ash can and does drive to the basket when it is her best shot.
We see what we want, ERWUC65, what is it you want to see?
