Conf USA in Talks with UConn, Liberty, NMSU

First Connecticut did everything they could to lose the Whalers and got played by Robert Kraft ( Patriots ) into thinking that they would relocate to Hartford so he could get a better deal from Massachusetts and now while Cincinnati’s football team is going to the Big 12 UConn’ s football team is going to join the conference ( conference USA) that just lost 6 members to our old conference the AAC… See a pattern here… I do . While I still brag about being from Connecticut and UConn ( glad I’m not originally from my current state of Florida , red necks and all) Connecticut has always been small time when it’s comes to sports and casinos ( Steve Winn) and attractions that would make money for the state and give people things to do. And please don’t take credit for the 2 HOF UConn basketball coaches, ( Kevin Ollie, and the last 3 football coaches) Everyone gets lucky once in a while and catches lightning in a bottle). I feel for you guys , I really do. Just saying
Florida has rednecks? Not in my neck of the palm trees... :)

I love it when people talk about their sports teams in the terms of we - Really?
And what field position or management position do these folks have on the team
I know that I do so on rare occasions but try not to do so - My father would always say - what position do you play?
Trivial, I know.

Two people disliked that post, two people liked it . As a fan, I say we...

There is a very strong chance UConn will get a P5 or P4 invite. It might even come this decade. FB just has to rebound to top 30 status and Mens BB has to return to Final 4 greatness. I think both can happen. UConn might even be able to get AAU membership once the research volume increases significantly.

Great news, now the CUSA might be dead..so we don't have to worry about it!! Thank you Marshall...

AD Dave is texting the contact info of that scheduling guru to the three remaining schools as we speak.

“The AAU thing is more important than anybody thinks. The Big 10s TV deal ends in 2023. UConns football TV deal ends in 2023. The Big 10 payout will easily offset the Big East buyout and more. next 2 years are statement years for UConn, both basketball and football. Win and in.”

This is a comment to the tweet by a guy named Nate and I agree 1000% we may not get the invite, but we should at least align ourselves for the opportunity.
Where's conspiracy kitty when you need them?

This is the only important comment in the thread. Proof that our fanbase consists of a group of middle school girls who can't help needing to worry about everything that someone else says.

Oh, for the good old days of the Cesspool, whose conversations looked good compared to this one.
I was thinking more like stoddy babas or babcias...

But how do we feel about some MACtion? Especially with them adding Mid-Tenn and Western Kentucky. Stable league with bowl tie-ins. Good geography. A considerable bump in TV money. Probably low exit fees. A reasonable level of competition.

Or do we hang around as an independent until 2023 holding out hope for the Big 10 to come sniffing around? I really like how are schedule looks as an independent, and I think, if we can continue to successfully schedule P5 games, this is our best option. But I still see benefits in the MAC - IF they’re interested in us FB-only.

I don't think Big Ten will come sniffing around....UConn will need to step up it's FB program

.-.
I believe the Notre Dame like response would be, UConn values it's football independence and currently have no plans to join a conference.

It's OK to be nice ti these programs. We've been there and may wish to schedule games with them in the future. CFB you know is built on relationships.

That said, time for them to stop floating us as a future member and get their stuff together.

I have to think they are worried about their other sports. FB independence would be a better option for the remaining teams than pulling in FCS programs. Has to pay more.

Until UConn has AAU accreditation, there is nothing to discuss with the Big Ten.
I agree the Big Ten is a long shot now. I think if we ever join a conference it will be the ACC or a joining a mix of ACC remnants that were left out when the big brands of the ACC leave to join up with other big boys (a la what just happened with TX & OK) -- 5 to 10 years down the line. Won't be top tier in football, but just a notch below. I would assume that would mean rejoining some of our historical rivals, plus some of the tobacco roadies -- something even the hoop-centric of us could embrace.

That's why football has to become relevant, and soon.

Fully agree. Don't be surprised if UNC and VA to B1G in 10 years in FSU and Clemson to SEC. Us and WVU are probably the backfills.

Seems possible especially now that the Big 12 might be the best BB conference.
People seem to think that adding schools with good programs to a conference means they will still be good after they join the conference. The problem is when conferences add schools, some schools will lose and it will be harder to maintain their success.

By any metric, UConn has lost ground in the past decade towards attaining AAU status. There are too many schools in front of UConn that are doing all of the right things. Quite tautological, but AAU status is as far away as a Big 10 invite. In ad ideal world, Utah's admission would provide a road map for UConn, but unfortunately it is not a road that UConn is capable of going down.

Also schools tend toward the conference mean. Not even considering coaches change. When they went to the ACC, Miami and VaTech were top 5 programs. How’s that working out? Plus some programs that looked dominant playing modest competition week in week out struggle with playing better teams every week. Would Clemson be as dominant playing an SEC schedule or even a Big 10 one rather than the weaker ACC?

They haven't been good since Frost took over- yet they still draw 80000 to each home game. Very loyal fanbase
Nebraska football was king for a while. They really struggle recruiting now without a Texas presence. Hard to see a path back to glory for them, but they had 2 solid coaches they sent packing in Solich and Pelini. When you have something working, maybe hang on to it.

Yes. In the next 20 years, certainly, the Big Ten will do better in realignment than the ACC. Our best hope for football (beyond — you know — winning games) is that the Big Ten takes UNC and UVA from the ACC, and we back fill in there.

Since most of us know more about football and basketball than AAU status, what was Utah able to do that we can’t or won’t?

Parts of Florida are really an extension of NY. You can get the NY Times on Sunday morning with no delay. In the panhandle and other places, not so much.
