Columbia Post Game Thread

Stewart has been given every chance to shine against the cupcakes. He will be valuable for sure... coming off the bench. Braylon is the clear 3 now and for as long as he stays and stays healthy. "Put it in the book".
I was hoping Stewart would take a huge step forward. So far, he might have even regressed. Defensive lapses, and looks lost in the offensive sets.

AJ is gonna drop 30 and probably still lose, we just have nobody remotely capable of matching up with him if he’s feeling it. Stew and Ross probably get to be the sacrificial lambs there, id try to keep the fouls off Demary/Ball/Karaban.
Be glad when Braylon Mullins gets back. The team misses potentially best all around player.
WORTH THE PRICE OF ADMIISSION.

At times we looked outstanding, particularly the latter 13 minutes of the first half. But seeing the big lead diminished and Columbia playing more intensely in the second half, that can't happen against a good team. Better be ready to bring it for 40 on Saturday.

There was no chance of losing this game. That won't be the case against BYU, Arizona, Illinois, etc.

Note: not complaining about a 27 point win, and I can see losing a little focus. I just don't like seeing a 30 point lead drop to 20 against that kind of opponent.

Stewart has to do more, especially with key players out. He is being handed so many opportunities but he's not contributing.

He's contributing. Just not at the level as a third year player. He's a rotation player, not a 30 mpg player.

I hope Dan Hurley puts Ross on AJD so we get a thirty page breakdown on his defensive assignments post game. All jokes aside assuming he's the best matchup before he inevitably fouls out?

Hearing Solo speak at the post-game presser, he sounds like a future hoops coach somewhere.

This is why we ease into the schedule. There isn’t going to be end to end perfection. Not concerned about the O and the D will get better. There is good speed on the floor. I am concerned about battling on the glass. My impression is we might struggle against a long athletic team. Could be wrong but that’s my worry.

Are they recording team rebounds for dead ball missed free throws??

Edit: they are doing this, at least per the ESPN app play-by-play. My real question is why on earth are they doing that? There literally is not a rebound occurring.

At least we know what we’re getting with Ball/Karban/Reed. Wish I felt more confident going into BYU, but it’ll be a great game.
Mullins injury at some point will harm, but it is smart to be cautious bringing him back. I think of Stephon Castle as a freshman and how it paid dividends to bring him back slowly from an early season injury.

Starting small forward. He's our most talented player.
I go back and forth with Reed or Mullins being our most talented player. There was a top 25 that had Mullins at #12 and no Reed. I thought that was ridiculous not for where Mullins was rated but due to Reed’s abscence. In today’s game it’s tough for a 6-10 center to project without an established outside shot.

Might just be me, but I don't particularly care if a team struggles to stay locked in up 30-40 points in the 2nd half. Don't think it's really predictive of anything
I get that, but it is also true that historically our better teams do win these games by 30-40+ points.

Ball has developed from a streaky shooter into a guy who is consistently one of our top 3 players. He seems coachable and improves at things like taking the ball to the basket.

This is not exactly a hot take but they're so much better when Reed is on the floor. He's going to have to play at least 30-32 minutes in the close games against better competition. I hope he's ready for that and can stay out of foul trouble.
I agree. You like to beat teams with skill, speed/athleticism, and strength. Reed is definitely our strength guy and has post skills.
