Colorado State is expected to make UConn coach Jim Mora the school’s next head coach.

Searched Paul Chryst and saw a couple of articles mentioning him as a possibility for the Oregon State job, but they've already hired someone else. Not sure if he's linked to any other openings, but that seems like a solid idea to me.

My concern with Chryst is that he ran Wisconsin as a development program and didn't heavily pursue transfers. Mora, with his NFL background, embraced the portal.

It's a new age. Every school has some kind of GM/Portal guru. Obviously this needs to be vetted by Benedict. Im sure Fickell was/is better in the portal. How is that working out? Guy sent Skyler our way.

Flipside posted on the basketball board a picture with these guys who were at the Florida meetup. Not sure how much money they have.

Actually, this is what Flipside posted ...

We know he was very very good here and to what extent is debatable. All factors considered, 64 yo, no P4 offers. I can't help but think they believe they are getting much more than they are. From their posts, they believe that CSU was his dream job since 2019. crazy. He will most likely get them to bowl eligibility but not sure how quickly. With his $2.4 mill contract in 2026 plus incentives plus the $1.5 mill buyout, CSU is paying $4 mill the first year. I think they probably overpaid by just a tad.

Listening to Saban, that was reassuring to me because I was like “say what!” And so was he!

With a day to reflect, I truly think this was truly a bad move for Mora. Seriously the whole country had just started taking about UConn football.
He got out of a 9 win program near its peak and took over a 2 win program.

If he didn't leave now and we went 5-7 next year he'd be stuck in Storrs -- where he apparently didn't want to be -- for who knows how long.

Some folks were ready to build statues of him here and they'll be wiling to do the same at Colorado State if he can right the ship.

Gotta get while the gettins good. RE left for a better situation and knew the next years team would lose a lot of key players.

Yes. He can probably get as many wins at CSU next year as he would have at UConn, and 5-6 wins looks better coming off a 2-win season than a 9-win season.

He got a personal raise in salary and an opportunity to live near the Rockies which he prefers. The big question is how much NIL money can CSU give his players? UConn is committed to fully funding NIL but gives the lion's share to basketball. CSU has the opportunity to beat UConn in football NIL if they can come up with revenue sources or donors.

If they are promising lots of money for football, you can understand his decision. We'll see how he does. But there's no reason UConn can't be near the top of the G5 in football, if we can build on our momentum.

Mora, who expressed confidence this will be his “last step” in coaching

And apparently he also took the opportunity to talk with many of UConn's commits, how wonderful is that?
I read that as CSU commits:

“Mora will return to Fort Collins for signing day.

“I’ve had an opportunity to talk to every one of the commits,” he said.”

Yes @huskymedic, I read it that way too (that he spoke with CSU recruits). Note that my sarcasm suggests that he spoke to OUR commits and got them to flip. I have a doctoral degree from UConn mate, I can read very much goodly. ^_^

Well, you’ve been raging quite a bit on the departure - I apologize for not effectively sifting out when it’s sarcasm. 😉

I'm in good company in that regard. Most of us here love this school, though I'd argue that we on the football threads have the health and prosperity of the athletics and the school front and center more than the BBall diehards. Having seen us take tremendous strides forward over the last 2 years, I'm very concerned that we're about to take several disastrous steps backwards to the point where we don't recover...I don't want a repeat of the 2010s. Besides which, if you think I'm raging, have you seen the videos of Ole Miss fans at the airport flipping off their former HC? I'm mild by comparison and just use my middle finger to type. 😁😇

Hmmm... We'll see...

But I think we have to be careful with the Peak talk....

Who did we beat w/ Mora? Any top 25 teams?

I mean I think Diacco led us to a couple of bigger wins if you look at the Houston game.

But with Mora and thanks to him. we entered the national conversation...

Sorry but no one cares about Colorado St. They don't now and they won't in a couple of years.
