Makes it sound like Hugh Millen was informing Mora that UConn was much lousier than he realized. I think it supports the Mora-wanted-to-live-in-the-Rockies theory. “He’s also a mountain man. Jim spent his elementary school years in Boulder while his father was on Eddie Crowder’s Buffs staff. Mora never, ever let the Front Range go.”

I am also so tired of hearing people trash our facilities and call theirs better. It just isn't the case, 90+% of the time people make the claim. Our facilities are as good or better than the majority of FBS. If they're worse it's marginally worse and not worth noting. It's like someone made the claim when we were in our down years, and it stuck just because we were so bad back then people assumed it must be true.

If you trust the article, it does sound like Mora left because he would have access to the playoff there if his team performs.

Doesn't Col State in this bad year still show 30k + a year per game? What we would do for that. I think what he said hurts... but sometimes the truth hurts. Perhaps as a program we need to look into the mirror and think about who we are and what we want to be. Does having good football mean we MUST sacrifice basketball? Can you not have both? I dont know, just asking.

But its not the college atmosphere that matters in CT its the convenience of being able to get on and off 84 quickly

What a difference a week makes. Last week I was in Boca watching a victory over FAU and wondering what bowl game I would be attending.

This week we lost Mora and our future is unclear. His hiring was beneficial to both parties. I became more vested in football again. I was emotional at first since his resignation was a total surprise. I don’t really care why he left. Kinda like when your ex dumps you. What’s the point in wallowing in things that can’t be undone.

There is no good time for a football head coach to leave. Need to hire a quality head coach as soon as possible so that retention and recruitment doesn’t suffer too much. For the most part, fans are way more loyal than coaches, staff and players. Some have invested many years of their lives in UConn. It’s become a business for players and always was for coaches.

It definitely didn't look like 30k at their Air Force rivalry game that just happened
 
I don't understand the argument of "Mora left because CSU can make the playoff." Sure it's technically possible, but in reality there's over 60 G5 schools competing for that single spot. So even if UConn is hypothetically disadvantaged for being independent and had a 0.0001% chance of making it, is the 0.001% chance of CSU that much more alluring?

Also discredits the fact that UConn was about 3 plays away from landing that 0.0001% in playoff contention

No way an undefeated UCONN with our SoS makes the playoff. Ain’t happening. We would be in back of 3 & 4 loss P4 teams.

This ^^ I am surprised people do not realize that we have no chance in our current situation - even going 12-0. With no conference we can only get in if we are ranked in the top 7 of the remaining non conference champion teams. As @Rich notes, there will be several P4 teams that would be ranked higher when you compare their schedule vs ours.

Meanwhile, while there are 60+ G6 schools, pretty much all the MAC and Conf USA teams are in the same boat as us with a slightly better chance because they at least do have a conference championship and could theoretically get in as the G6 rep. I would say they probably have that 0.0001% chance. The MW and Sunbelt teams have an even better chance but teams in the American and new PAC will have the best chance to get in as most likely a team from one of these conferences is getting that one G6 spot.

So while CSU making the playoffs and having a chance at a national championship is still remote, assuming Mora is coming in with the mindset of turning the program around and there is $upport from the school and boosters, the odds are much higher at CSU.

Still have a realistic shot. If Mora really cared for having a chance at the CFP then Colorado State has a better chance than independent UConn.
 
Had we lost to FAU we would have had a ton of pissed off fans saying good riddance, if they had thrown into the endzome with 4 seconds left we probably lose. I wonder how much an effect this had on our performance against FAU, not saying Mora wasn't focused on this game but I'm sure he was distracted.

It showed how great our offense is and Sammis is, we know our defense sucks but that was record setting bad against FAU and FAU scored 3 pts yesterday btw. Our defense actually wasn't that bad against Duke and Airforce meaning we weren't missing our assignments and we got pressure on the qb at least. I wonder how much Mora worked with the defense as opposed to the offense.

It's time to move on and get a better coach. Mora probably felt he maxed himself out here, he has a history of tenures ending badly. We only got his side of the story about his UCLA tenure ending we didn't hear the other side of the story.

I thank Mora for his 4 years but he'not Jim Calhoun. It is not a miracle to win here , I know we made it look that way for years. Moving forward being a token 6-7 win bowl team isn't good enough anymore. 8 wins needs to be the bear minimum.

That matters everywhere. The Rose Bowl has 4 freeway entrances with 1 mile of the stadium. Penn State's Beaver Stadium is a half mile from I-99, and the parking lots are closer. CSU's Canvas Stadium is 2 miles from 3 entrances to I-25. Michigan Stadium is a mile from I-94 and 2 miles from freeway 23. Ohio State's Ohio Stadium is half a mile from multiple entrances to freeway 315, and just over 1 mile to four entrances to I-71. Gillette Stadium in Foxborough is less than 2 miles from I-95.

Basically, every well-attended football stadium has easy freeway access through multiple entrance and exit routes.

UConn's campus is 8 miles from I-84 and 12 miles from the terminus of I-384. Don't expect to get 40,000 people into an on-campus stadium if those are the closest freeways.

Mora coached at UCLA, where the commute to home football games is worse than Storrs to East Hartford.

I have a gut feeling on this too. I really don’t care that he left. I just want to choose the right coach now. Mora is a good face of a program but he is not a great football coach. We can be better off if the right hire is made. I can’t help but feel a pull to Cahill. The more I look into him, the more I like the idea.
 
A name i haven't seen mentioned is Paul Chryst. He is 60, younger than Mora. Won at Wisconsin at a high level. Was an analyst at Texas last year. Supposedly wants to be a HC again, and no one is beating his door down apparently. In other words, he is what Mora was before coming here.
