Bummer.

One of the things I'd like to see happen over the next 5 years is for us to become the default home of any high-rated New England kid. Felt like we were making progress on that when we got Jalen & Steve, but obviously we've backslid like a mofo over the past couple of years.

Of that list, I'm hoping he goes to Michigan. For the benefit of his game and one of my favorite non-UConn coaches, John Beilein.

This list reaffirms my belief that Conference Affiliation Matters!! Creighton and Xavier are Big East teams. We, no matter how much I try to cling to the past, are not.
We waited way too long to show him the time of day as a local team. I don't think it's the conference.

It's troubling to say the least. We aren't in good with any of the current New England kids from what I've seen.

It's not the name though, it's the performance. If us, temple and Memphis get our together and WSU, SMU and Cinci continue to be top 25 caliber then we have a good basketball conference.

We're in on Shittu, Reeves, Sidney Wilson, Ayala. So we're definitely in on some good NE kids for 2018

Edit: I now see you said in good with the recruits, not in on good recruits. I do kind of agree then, though there's still a ton of time left in Reeves/Shittu/Wilson's recruitment

Its a pretty inexcusable offense by the coaches.

A couple of years ago, I was really excited about our recruiting outlook. We were signing good players, but the future looked so bright with so many good New England guys that seemed like real possibilities; Gabriel, Heron, Hami, Reeves, Bruce Brown, Ayala, Samuels. etc. Can now add MAL to that list as well.

And we ended up with Steve Enoch who is now gone and Mamadou (who I think is going to be very good) who still hasn't played.

I don't know much about New England recruiting before the last few years, but it seems like this has been a "golden age" and we completely dropped the ball.

And we are still running around offering 500 kids all over the country including top 5 players with all the big names you can imagine.

I cant even bring myself to think of the Bruce Brown/ Hami debacle.

And the fact that we didn't have somebody parked outside AJ Reeves house and school 24/7 is just asinine to me.

(Reeves is still a possibility, but apparently it isnt looking good according to those in the know on this board). recruiting is fluid and can change..blah blah blah i get it.

When I say New England kids, I mean kids who are from here. Shittu is Canadian and Wilson is from NYC and we are in on both of them. Ayala is from Delaware and Reeves is a Boston kid, we are out on both of them.

It's too hard to keep track of who's from where so I literally just googled New England recruiting rankings. Are there even any other New England kids worth recruiting then? Not questioning, legitimately asking

There are 5 high-major 2018 kids who were born & raised in New England:
• David Duke
• AJ Reeves
• Cole Swider
• Cormac Ryan
• Nate Laszewski

We recruited but are out on the first three, and never recruited the last two.

I was going to make a thread about this. Why haven't we shown any interest in the irish kid Cormac Ryan? He is a total sharpshooter and ranked as high as 50 in some recruiting services. Look at the tape on him. It's hard to not love it. His 3 point shooting is just incredible. And he's right in our own backyard.

It's entirely possible he made it known to us, early, that he had zero interest in being a Husky.

It happens. What I'd like, though, is for us to become THE team of New England, and the only way that happens is if we start getting (and keeping) more New England kids, then building title-winning teams out of them and putting them into the league.

Hopefully Jalen blows up this year, and we get Tremont, and things start to go in that direction.

You guys worry way too much about where these kids are from. The kid could be from the moon and if he can pass, put the little orange ball into the basket, and retrieve the ball when it rolls off the rim without turning it over while wearing a UConn jersey I'm sold.

But it's a lot easier to recruit if you have an entire region of the country locked down, and the kids know growing up that they want to play for UConn.

Fair point but allow me to counter with something radical: While I was not an athlete going into college, when I graduated from high school I wanted to get as far away from home as I could. Just because a kid is "local" doesn't mean they have any interest in attending or playing for the local school no matter how successful that school may be.

Yeah but not being on this kid earlier is alarming not quite sure why not? Looks like a kid that can help almost anyone, it's crazy?
