2026 Recruiting: Cole Cloer visiting this weekend

Staff really sees something in him that the evaluators are overlooking. Would fit right into our system in AK/Stewart's wing spot if he can bulk up a bit. Hurley and co. really like their wings to be able to finish with both hands and jump stop. Big priority it seems.

He's ranked in the top 30 but pretty much everyone. Not sure he is being overlooked.

Our staff is recruiting him like a priority top-10 recruit is what I meant. We're really not prioritizing sub-5* guys right now except for him.

Seems like we have spent a lot of time on him and has definitely been a priority recruit. Funny thing I don’t fear UNC and him being a Carolina kid. Think that time has passed and would be surprise if we don’t get him.

I would have to think a certain % of these young dudes would totally get what Hurley is building here and winning and development are a huge priority. We all know he is a bit of a different kind of dude but having Hurley at UConn just feels so meant to be.

I'm a bit confused. I see it mentioned that he is a 3/4 and an AK and Stewie replacement. From his videos he looks much more like a 2/3 and a Mullins replacement. Either way, we want him but he will need to add a considerable amount of bulk to play the 4 as a freshman.

Still confused?

That’s the exciting part about him. He definitely plays like a 2/3 and even showed off some good ability to pass the ball on drives. But he has the size and length to play the 4 if necessary once he puts on weight.

Preferably would like if he can slide into the 3 and be a big mismatch there if he comes here.

Yes Cloer does have a better handle than Karaban (and maybe even Stewie - tbd*). He also has a nearly identical recruiting profile from a size perspective to Karaban (listed height, weight, wingspan), and similar shooting capabilities to Karaban. Has not demonstrated quite the same cerebral grasp of offensive concepts as Karaban, but his passing indicates that may develop. And also just like Karaban, he would have difficulty generating separation from a traffic cone. He does not have the lateral quickness to consistently guard High Major 2's - which could also mean 3's in 3-guard lineups. So the projection is that he will likely need to put on weight as you said to play/start for us down the line.
All that to say his ceiling is leaving college early as a draft pick

I watched part of the video and what pops for me is what appears to be some big time plus hoops instincts and BBIQ. The way he fakes and changes speed and direction to create space for his shot seems advanced for such a young player. Many college and even pros never learn to do what he is doing.

He needs to fill out a bit, but what seems like an advanced feel for the game should earn him early minutes, well as long as he's not a defensive liability. He's super long, so probably will make up for his lack of strength and foot speed with some recovery blocks, like what we often saw from Clingan when he was a freshman. I wonder if he's still growing. Seems like a multi-position type player due to his dimensions, handle and shot making.

I really hope we land him.

He played point center for his high school team, but he's definitely not a 5. His game is probably closest to Mullins of our recent recruits, but 2-3 inches taller, so a 3/4 instead of a 2/3. He's not as physically sturdy as McNeeley or Karaban. He's a little shorter than McNeeley, but longer. An NBA 3, but potentially a college 4 if he puts on 15-20 pounds over the next couple years.

McNeeley measured taller than Karaban at the combine. Are you saying he's shorter than both?
