Sorry to stay on this, but if we recognize that the schools have little control over the conference schedule, then how did Tara's staff exert influence over which conference games (including win #1000) would be played at home?

They didn't. I did not notice if that game was a conference or non conference game. if it was a conference game, then it was luck of the draw. I don't follow Stanford BB. I was just thinking if possible, it would be nice if Geno could win his 1000th at home. My thoughts are on Geno's 1000th win, not Tara's. Geno probably does not care either way.

I remember a comment made during interview with Chris Daley, about the 91st win. It was regarding someone in scheduling noting that the 91st win would be an away game and whether they should work to flip it. Chris' comment / response was that "we will loose long before then", hence why that happened as an away game. Thus IMO, I think they (the infamous "they"), will work to ensure Geno's 1000th win is a home game, assuming some 2-3 game window of predictability.

I wonder if the ALWAYS forward thinking personnel in the UConn basketball office, in conjunction with the staff in the advertising and media departments have calculated about when (the range/spread of games) Geno could win his 1000th, and will take proactive measures to assure that those games will be played at home next year, like Tara did for hers. This picture says it all. She had a large number of former players on hand to witness the game, and join in the post game celebration. It's unlikely Geno would receive any recognition or crowd appreciation on the road from fans of a team he just beat, especially if it was a blowout.

I believe THAT is a milestone that would be best observed, played, and properly celebrated at home!! You only win that 1000th game one time. Let's do it at home, so that the fans in attendance (the game should be sold out) can share in the moment and after glow, and help Geno, his staff and team, celebrate this monumental occasion. I'm confident the powers that be will get this right.
If he wins it on the road you celebrate at the next home game. Much like we dis with Gabby's 1000 point. No big deal.

I've already suggested that Geno probably does not care either way. You say "no big deal" I ask you, no big deal to who? Are you speaking for yourself, the team and program and/or the fans?
Anytime a coach wins 1000 games, it's a BIG deal.

Thanks WestCoast, you captured the essence of my query and a random thought.

What I meant is that if the event happens at an away game we could still recognize it at home. These milestones are absolutely worth recognizing. I see how you could read my post as seemly minimizing the accomplishment, but that wasn't intention. We good?

Mr. Plebe.. You are a good and informed poster.. But You have much more confidence in the heels than most do. After the ram stomping they will most likely received later today.. They will be either the 14 or 15 seed in the tourney. I can't name one team in the conference that I would favor them in a game at this point. Most likely they will be playing without their second best player Watts for the rest of the season. Their best player Kea is also banged up.

Shows how much I know :oops::oops:

Pitt thumped them by 20 a few weeks ago.. Heels all banged up... And see what happens :(

CViv got 6 wins this year. At that pace, she will surpass 1,000 wins in the spring of 2021. :(

With UNC's season now over, and Geno just six wins shy of tying Hatchell, we can mark down the Sweet 16 as the game to tie her at 990 and the Elite 8 as the game to move ahead.

I continue to be amazed at the staying power and details of this thread.

My only curiosity is who will overtake Pat Summitt first
Geno or Tara?

Tara needs 92
Geno needs 114 so Geno needs 22 more wins

If we extrapolate this season a little (Standord EE8 UConn NC ) we pick up 3 more and if we average about 6 more wins than stanford for the 3 seasons (very realistic pace) it will take to reach the Summitt, it will be a great horse race.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

All we need is a nice Excel graphic showing this. Any BY up to the task?

Tara will probably reach the goal in 3 more seasons. To reach it first, Geno's teams would have to average about 7 wins more per year than Tara's teams. Possible, but unlikely.

Probably correct. I did not know the quality of the Stanford Recruiting classes until I just looked it up. It looks like some good quality being built there and tara definitely knows what to do with it.

Anyone know Stanford's outlook for next year? They lose 3 of their starters, so unless they've got some great players on the bench/incoming, they could fall back a bit in 2017-18.

Decent returning veteran nucleus w/ McPhee, Sniezek, Johnson and Smith (will be 2 Jr. and 2 Sr. next year; 2 guards and 2 post players). Their freshmen this year showed some promise but didn't play a lot of minutes. They often seem to have a player come out of nowhere and become a contributor. There will definitely still be some talent on The Farm next year.
