I like Jim Mora, thought he was a good hire for a school/history/program like UConn. But one thing is starting to seem clear to me, the players don't seem to get better. I know everyone likes to point to the recruiting and obviously at UConn we are not getting the cream of the crop. But at some point coaches should be getting players better-right? This was clear to me last year when after a good first year (6-7-good in UConn terms, lol) we had one of the 15 most experienced teams coming back last year in the entire NCAA and we go 3-9? That to me speaks to coaching. The longer the players are in your system the worse they seem to get despite playing time and experience which does and should matter in NCAA football. Now year 3 against one of the least experienced B10 teams we lose 50-7 and don't even compete?

I mean, I didn't expect a UConn win on the road against a B10 team but to not compete and show that we are going backwards each year is obviously concerning. Starting to think Mora doesn't have a plan and cant develop players.

Let’s get real. The coaching is at this point by any measure related to outcome and production, poor. I get bringing in a bunch of new guys doesn’t help, but so are a lot of other squads. There is nothing uniquely different at UConn than any other place, and many respects better than most. Excellent facilities, great school, very good market, nice campus, flagship, better funded than mid-tiers. There is no good excuse. None.

I agree coaching is bad. UConn also does not have any football culture compared to those other schools.

Watching the Penn State game and seeing how bringing in a new offensive coordinator completely changed a boring uncreative offense into an explosive big play one made me sad. No matter what we do, it never gets better.
I have a friend who works at Penn State as a defensive analyst. He came in with the former Indiana HC Tom Allen, who is now the DC. My point is, that Penn State cleaned house and they are going to be a much better team for it. On both sides of the ball.

Why don't we see how this season ends. No one who is a realist expected UConn to beat Maryland. I still think this will be a winning season.
It's amazing how many people want to burn everything down to the ground based upon one game in which we were overmatched. Totally agree, why not be a little patient and see how the season unfolds. There will be plenty of time to get the pitchforks and torches out if things go poorly.

I purposely did not post in forst 24 hours. Still really agitated. Calmed down enought to be reasobable. I dont care who we play. cant be uncompetative. That said we need turnovers to compete in a game like that. It feels like we never do that. Need the fam base to step up this week but not expecting it.

Well, from what I’ve heard, over 30k tickets have been sold. That’s called stepping up.

Yeah how many will be in actual attendance against Merrimack? Guarantee it will not be close to 30k.

I hear what you’re saying but IMHO with respect to one player not getting better, I think you’re wrong.
I posted the following earlier today…….

“I liked what I saw from Fagnano, and I was one of his biggest critics last year. Seems like a different and much improved QB. I don’t know who worked with him in the off season but someone on the coaching staff was doing something right. So assuming of course Mora saw the same progress for Fagnano, you have to wonder about Evers prospects for improvement going forward.”

50-7 is not one game - it's an identity that lingers since we were relegated to the american. That is why we're mad.

Least experienced BIG 10 team is going a bit far... They were ACC for 60 years before even switching leagues.

No, it's still just one game. And it's one game against an opponent that is the most difficult on our schedule. It's perfectly reasonable to be concerned but perhaps it's also reasonable to hold off on the tar and feathers until we have a few more under our belt.

I was not expecting a win, but I was expecting a competent FBS team who would look like a 70-80 ranked team. We were crushed by #55-60, unable to beat their 2/3s. If we are a regular 110+ team, what is the point? Let’s see where MD ends up but we looked no different than in previous years.

We can double or triple the NIL next year, but I’m not sure we can turn the ship around based on what the staff and team is showing. I would love to be wrong, but I am not confident. Is wanting to beat Merrimack where we have landed?

Agreed. let's be patient.

Lets see how the team responds to adversity

They are obviously not selling single game seats (except chairbacks) in the upper deck behind the visitors bench or the student section. Lets not be delusional....
