Begins. Indiana faithful already claiming first step to proving he’s worth it is flipping Mullins.

He has a pulse, but Indiana fans don’t seem that excited about the hire, at least on their Rivals site. In fact, there’s one thread where they still identify as blue bloods and feel like they should have gone after a Beard or a Wade, rather than a most of his career mid-major coach. With that said, always be closing, and keep recruiting to the end.

Why should they be excited? He led them to an "almost NCAAT berth in a year where the committee had the biggest group of teams ever from the bubble"

It just goes to show you how far Indiana's brand has fallen in men's hoops.

In fairness they won 9 games the year he before he got there and their best player - his kid - was out for the season by December. They beat Gonzaga and Arizona with him and Kansas and Iowa State without him. Not a sexy hire but he's a good coach. I bet some of them are still mad that Brad Stevens didn't take it. I wouldn't write this guy off. He's a McDermott guy.

Not excited about the hire. IU has unlimited resources and I think they settled.
Hope I am wrong.....

The Indiana fans of the world tend to think their only option is a home run hire, a Brad Stevens, or else it’s failure. In todays world I think the young and hungry type that has the energy to keep up with the moving parts is as effective.

Kentucky went through this with Pope, and then they were like oh this guys pretty good.

Devries is yet another very good coach out of the McCarthy tree.

One thing that I've been curious about for quite a while:

When Indiana cut down the nets in New Orleans in 1987 (when Jim Calhoun completed his first year here), what kind of odds could we have gotten on our getting to six titles before Indiana?

.0000000000000000000000000000000001%

?

I'm thinking they would have given us something like 50,000 - 1 and laughed to themselves thinking it was easy money on their part.

At the time Bobby Knoght was about six months shy of his 47th birthday, was viewed almost unanimously as the best coach in the sport and Indiana was as popular a destination for basketball talent as anywhere.

A normal epectation at that time would have been that they would have won #6 before we made it back to the tournament.

Smart hire. Too often teams obsess over the name and don't look at how the team plays and what the coach did with the talent he had. He might need a homerun hire assistant to be a lead recruiter.

Now we see what Texas does. I hope it isn't Sean Miller.

I had mcneese in the sweet 16 but that’s gotta be a gut punch for the players to announce the day before the game
He might be the most transactional coach in the sport, do you think the players expected anything different? I believe he is still coaching the game
