I believe she still would have left. She wanted playing time and she wanted it NOW! We all know how that goes at UConn. You gotta earn it. When he put her in it was basically and instant turn over. She wasn't willing to learn, grow, and wait her turn. The team comes first. I think she went where she thought she could get playing time right away. I am glad she made her decision early. Most kids wait a full year or two years. Why waste the time.

I did not ask for details when I ran into her at a basketball game, but she said there where some internal issues that she did not know about until she arrived, and there was no family atmosphere as represented to her by the university during her courtship.

I often wonder if Sadie Edwards had it to do over again, if she would leave. Has she stayed, she would have gotten substantial playing time. Sadie could play (that's why they recruited her), she just had to acclimate herself to Geno's program, and HIS way of doing things.

I have no doubt that USC AD Lynn Swan will fill that position with a competent coach.

It isn't Lynn Swan that I am concerned with. It is the women's AD or asst AD. She is the problem, IMO. She hired Cynthia Cooper with very little "National Search". Much of Coopers hiring was due to some Alumni wanting her. Cooper has/had a problem history with rules and student athletes. She was a great player but it never transferred to her coaching or dealing with people. The women's AD knew she made a mistake during the first year.

Yeah, that's the way I remember it too. She (and her parents) saw the handwriting on the wall, and left soon after her last final exam.

STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut women's basketball team has received National Letters of Intent from four student-athletes in the early signing period, as announced by head coach Geno Auriemma on Wednesday. Sadie Edwards, Courtney Ekmark, Kia Nurse and Gabby Williams will all join the Huskies for the start of the 2014-15 season.

She did get her wish - She became a starter as soon as she became eligible during the Christmas break a year later. Since she's at a local school (for me), it's easy to follow her progress. She's had moderate success. She'll never come closer to winning a NC than the brief time she spent at UConn. I saw USC play UNLV in Las Vegas earlier this season. UNLV won 77-66. UNLV is a mid-major. They are not in USC's class. I knew right then USC was in trouble. They went on to finish 14-16/5-13. I also saw them play in L.A. the year before, and USC beat them by 31. It was time for a change at Troy. Fight on!! :cool:
 
Amanda Butler at University of Florida: GONE.

Butler was a surprise to me, I thought Florida was trending upwards with her but apparently administration wants a different direction. I would look out for Yolett McCuin there.. especially after the hires of Staley at SC, followed by Mitchell-Taylor at UGA.

Jimmy Dykes at Arkansas was not a surprise to me. At all.
 
How about Chelsea Newton , ex RU asst , now Georgia asst , she's a great recruter , know,s her x's & o's ?

Interesting suggestion...I remember her from Clemson. Was she at SC, too? After two years to sort things out, she's had two splendid seasons in a row. Plus, I was looking at her roster and she's got significant representation from Florida, Georgia and other Gulf States, plus one our the Bahamas connection. Get into a P5 school and maybe the top-rated players from those Florida and other schools start coming. Here's her current roster.

Yep. That's exactly why I mentioned her name in connection with Florida... right now the top talent for Florida ends up at schools out of state. SC and Tennessee already have the top 2017 players from Florida headed their way and SC has secured the top 2018 out of Florida and it's not even summer yet... Florida could be looking to stem the tide by hiring somebody like McCuin.

McCuin is a young and dynamic coach, willing to learn from anybody and adds a zest to any program. She never coached at SC but she is a protege of Dawn. McCuin refers to Dawn as one of her "mentors" and somebody she looks up to.

Florida will need to give McCuin time though. It takes time to get your players in and establish your system in the SEC... SC fans have witnessed this first hand. Butler was there for 10 seasons but it felt like to me her program was slowly starting to turn a curve (even after losing Christinaki).. they have a great future with freshmen Delicia Washington.
 
Two coaches who will probably be discussed as potentials for the Florida job:
  • Karl Smesko of Florida Gulf Coast: 3 NCAA tournament appearances in the past 5 years, and in the WNIT every other year since he took the FGCU job in 2007. His program graduated most of the important players from last year's team, and they still went 23-8 and 12-2 in conference this year.

  • Carolyn Kieger of Marquette: She's taken Marquette from 9-22 (4-14) in 2015 to 14-16 (9-9) in 2016 to 24-7 (13-5) in 2017, including a Big East tournament championship and a likely #7 seed in the NCAA tournament. She spent 6 years as an assistant to Katie Meier at Miami, so she's probably familiar with Florida's high school and AAU scene. She's 33 years old and will surely be a hot commodity for P5 coaching vacancies this year.

Plebe, Gamecock: Your suggestions got me going this a.m. to see what/remember what conference FGCU and Jacksonville play in and found it was the Atlantic Sun. A look at the 2016-17 standings reveals there is a third team with the same record as theirs: Stetson and it is coached by Lynn Bria. Some background:
- A three-time Atlantic Sun Conference champion as a head coach, Lynn Bria is in her ninth season at the helm of the Stetson women's basketball program.

- Over just the past six seasons, Bria has turned the Hatters into a formidable force in the Atlantic Sun. She has guided the Hatters to two conference titles, two NCAA Tournament appearances, three WNIT bids, and six consecutive 20+ win seasons. In fact, Stetson is just one of three schools in the state of Florida to post as many as 137 victories since the start of the 2010-11 season.

In 2015-16, Stetson won 20 games for the sixth year in a row despite not having any seniors on the squad. The Hatters also qualified for the WBI and earned their second NCAA postseason victory with a 89-54 win over McNeese State.

She had a HC job at Ohio University and UCF before Stetson. Her roster is kind of interesting: Florida has the most stateside representation, two each from Maryland and New Jersey, but there are also players from all over Europe, a well as the Virgin Islands and Canada.

Hey, is FGCU becoming a Triple AAA feeder to USC for basketball coaches? Andy Enfield, USC's Men's Coach, came from that neck of the woods, too.
On the other hand, duh, perhaps that has something to do with Smesko's name being mentioned? Thanks for keeping us posted.

Thanks. That record over four years -- ouch! On the other hand, I've always thought coaching anything (let alone teaching) anything at Pepperdine would be remarkably challenging given that front view of the Pacific. :rolleyes:

Agree. I was there a few years ago for a day game. Just sat on the lawn and looked at the Pacific before going to the game. Very relaxing. Of course, the drive back to the OC on PCH, I-10 and I-405 ruined all of the tranquil moments that were gained before the game.
By the way, that coach should have been gone, or never hired. He hired an assistant coach, that never should have been allowed to be around young athletes. He also lost the Ogwumike sisters(younger ones).
 
In my six degrees of separation insight (my second cousins, girlfriends father-in-law)into what the AD was thinking at USC was there was too much money left on the contract to let go of Cooper-Dyke last year when it was apparent she wasn't working out. This year the money was more palatable to swallow. My speculation on some of this 3rd/4th hand knowledge was they were also waiting to see if a fireable offense would occur to allow them to get out completely of the obligation and move on to a new coach. Again, this goes back to Univerisites not able/willing to buy out non-revenue programs coaches.

John Cooper, Cleve Wright out as Miami RedHawks coaches

No, not what I mentioned above. Although I dont think Jordan Adams and CCD are going to be seen eating dinner together anytime in the future. Also, I doubt Jordan's younger sister, Jayda, ever considered USC as long as Cooper was there.

Illinois WBB Coach Matt Bollant Relieved of duties. Fighting Illini join Miami of Ohio as D1 programs that have let Men's and Women's coaches go in 2017.

 
That was predicted somewhere (maybe this thread, for all I know). The dismissal on both sides of the game, I mean.
