Bottom line: Conventional, hand-delivered, motivated or otherwise, Benedict closed the deal against legitimate competition. He deserves credit.

Sign me up for anyone who delivers what they are supposed to deliver. It’s a refreshing change from the norm these days.
How does Benedict look next year if the football team goes 7-5?

No doubt about it. If he plays two more years we win it all in 2020-2021

Interesting thought. Al, Josh and Tyler will all be Seniors then, Sid and Brendan will be Juniors, and Bouknight and Gaffney will be sophomores. Mix in a couple more real good recruits, and it could get very interesting.

By the way, Al is one of the easiest guys to like who ever put on a Huskies uniform, and I love that Coach Hurley calls him Al.

This further speaks to the culture that Hurley is creating here at UConn. Brendan is Hurley's first true High School recruit, and this solidifies the type of attitude he's looking to bring to Storrs. The kid isn't getting plenty of minutes, yet here is buying in to putting every minute of the day towards bball. I was a D1 athlete myself at UConn (humble brag), and let me tell you, I had PLENTY of time for the lady huskies ( I once got 6 phone numbers in one night; 1 more and I would have gotten an entire phone number).
I can't wait to watch Brendan's growth over the next few years.

Two best players since Bazz have been Dham
and Jalen Adams. I agree Gilbert could possibly make a move. I know Jim Calhoun was always high on him if healthy - and that says alot and gets Chief’s attention.
Gilbert is the 100% buy in kid, a natural leader. If Hurley is Belichik, he is Brady. He is the most important piece we have.

I know Herbst is stepping down this summer, but has she been spotted at any of the men’s bball games since hurley started? recall her attending quite a few of the games in years past. How about AD David Benedict?

I want to win the Zona game, but at least be competitive and take it to the wire. An Iowa performance would bum me out but we have to be very careful with our expectations in Hurley year 1. I like the ball movement compared to last year and we are playing with more fire.
Iowa is super tough for anybody. Right now our boys are back taking care of business with the cupcakes. Obvisouly the team has taken a 180. I am very happy about a number of things about this team compared to last year. I believe we have the best bench in the country. I have not see Arizona play at all this year. However I think it is a must game. Meaning we need to take care of total business. Beating up cupcakes and losing to better teams is not a good thing come to the end of the year.

I’m just waiting for the first chair throw. I know he has a little Bobby Knight in him.

God I hope not. Great for Monday Night Raw theater....awful for basketball coaching.

He is a very good coach and we will see if it even gets better. We are lucky where we are now with Dan considering the position we put him in when he arrives. So many positive things happening from recruiting to what's happening on the court. There's things he will need to get better at but heck so did JC when he arrived. Really disappointed in how much Tarin Smith played the other night and not sure why? Is it because he's a Hurley favorite because that can't happen. He was atrocious and kept coming back. Jalen hasn't bought into D for 35 minutes yet and although I don't blame it all on Dan Hurley I want to see him change that.

Hey this isn't a great team but they are competitive something we haven't been in a while. They play hard, they run and when the play D they are fun to watch. They will be tested in the next 3 of 5 let's see where we are then. By no means will it tell us how great he will be but it will help a little in his early impact.

Yeah, important to remember that Hurley is not a finished product. Even less so than when JC arrived on campus. He's going to make plenty of mistakes, and that's OK.

And as important, the staff he put together is tremendous. Hurley says he learned so much about patience and how to handle himself ingame from Tom Moore last year. I expect the same learnings to occur from Kimani and Kenya, what with their extensive experience.
