He should average 18+ ppg, 10 rpg, 3 apg, 2 bpg

That isn't terribly far fetched but perhaps a bit hopeful especially for APG.

Now if you want to flip APG and BPG.

Hurley has had almost all his freshman take decent sized leaps in scoring their sophomore year aside from Akok (injury), Johnson (injury) and Springs.

I can't wait to see what a summer of UConn training does - he's gonna be awesome. A little more core strength and improvement on that FT% and I don't see how he's not on the radar for POY awards. My only "concern" is his conditioning, but I have to believe he'll improve there too.
POY awards might be tough depending on who returns. I mean Edey and Tshiebwe could both return to college ball. BE also returns Kolek, Kalkbrenner and Hopkins.

But he makes the 2nd one a lot ….will he now make the first and miss the 2nd one short then?

A few people have said this, but is it actually true? Does anyone know if this statistic exists somewhere?

The vast majority of his scoring and time will be in the paint. Adding some versatility and making yourself more difficult to guard is never a bad thing.

Sanogo shot 3s. He did most of his damage in the paint. He did MORE damage in the paint, because his defender had to trail him all over the court. The fact that his 2pt% increased 13% this year has a lot to do with the fact that he was a threat at the top of the key. His defender couldn't just wait for him in the paint anymore.
The defenders pretty much gave him the three. Rarely had one close within 3 feet of him, and late in the season, when a defender DID come out with the matador defense, he just drove by him on a one step drive to the hoop or to pass. After a couple of those, it pretty much eliminated the attempts to cover him at the arc.

I mean Karaban got no respect this year when, IMO, he was BEFOY so do I think Clingan will get recognition? Probably not.

Stoked and cannot wait to see what DC and AK can do next season!

Get stronger, more polished in the post and them free throws and hes going to be scary. Even if Ajax and Newt dont come back this is going to a really good team. Lets not forget AK will also be a better player next year and will also be hungry to make his mark.

Seemingly every time he steps to the line, he back rims the first and makes the second. I think you are fundamentally misunderstanding the types of free-throw percentage jumps that we regularly see in big men. It might not happen for him next year and will be incremental. And small sample size needs to be considered
There's only one person understanding the FT jumps from big men in this conversation. This is all players over 6'9" from BartTorvik who were freshman in freshman in 2021. Not a full list because for some reason the 2021 data is incomplete (I know Zach Edey is missing from that year for some reason). It's very rare to see that significant of a jump in FT%

Doing some other good work.

“It means a lot to see some of the smiles on these kids’ faces, just bringing joy into their day,” Clingan said. “Making people happy is something that I’ve always tried to do and seeing these kids, what they go through and the struggle they face, just giving them a little something in their day to make them happy and bring a smile to their face means a lot to me.”

We have a good one to root for don't we? Quite a few as of late as DH brings in good kids no doubt kudos to him and the staff for staying in that lane!

I couldn’t agree more. I’ve said this, but I am just not used to high achieving 50 year olds being this open to personal growth and demonstrating it by putting in actual work (not just Ted Talks). Hurley’s mindset is extremely impressive and I vastly underrated it.
Yes, good for him but a 50 yo coach in the spotlight should be able to handle it better, especially when there is a ton a buzz about it so he doesn't need a shadow.

Geno bustin' on AK flyby about his D is pretty funny.. I think DH has given Geno access to enjoy his guys ..Which is cool.. And I'm sure the team benefitted from some Genoisms along the way to number 5..Just like they did with JC..

There's no doubt when you lose a player like Adama you will miss him. But if DC can do the things you discuss here, the impact will be less than we think. If he can stay out of foul trouble like AS did we know on the defensive end alone we will be fine for sure. If he can now make a few jumpers, some jump hooks and move the feet more on the low block we will be fine in the middle. Lots of "ifs" though.

Key also is Sangare or a portal big, we need a back up to keep the momentum of the 5 we had with these 2 this year.
I was kind of surprised he hadn't already developed a baby hook. No doubt he needs to improve his FT%, but while jump shooting and an occasional 3 is ok, i think the 2 things that would make him unstoppable would be to 1) learn a bit of Sanogos patience around the hoop even if he never comes close to Sanogo’s A+ footwork and 2) a consistent baby hook. Very hard to stop him with those 2 improvements in addition to the FT.

Our best big man and player Adama Sanogo, declares for the draft and is unlikely to return, and not one poster here is freaking out or seems concerned about next season.

I wonder why?
Some of that is because his 7’2” back up had a great freshman season, but some of that is also the unspoken notion that when you win a national championship for us, you have “earned” to go pro and some of that is national championship afterglow.

Agree 100% on the patience piece cohenzone! He rushed so many other potential finishes this past year just that alone will improve. Keep the ball up and take your time, even a 7'2" guy could use a ball fake here and there no need to go up immediately at all times especially when not dunking it. Get the feet set and strong before you take it at them, this alone would help him become an amazing finisher.

Not too concerned with FT as his stroke seemed solid. He probably needs to shed a few more pounds and get his conditioning up and cut down on the fouls.
He was getting called for a lot of fouls just by being slightly out of position and bringing his arms down. Hopefully, small adjustments

Top 5 pick next year. Keep the receipts.

Him and Castle going to be the first top 10 pick duo since Ben and Emeka for us.
Early mock actually has both guys as top 10 picks.

Predict a big jump in his game after this summer of skill development/conditioning/SnC.. A lot of his offense this past year was opportunity -based.. Lobs/Oops/Dunks.. Offensive put backs.. Energy baskets.. Change up from what AS brought to the table.. He will be more of a focal point next season and will add to his tool kit/moves as a result..

Saw a few up and under moves when he was given space this year.. Talent is there.. Just getting in the reps over the next 3 or four months this summer. Will be getting fouled much more next season.. Would be great to see a 65-70% FT percentage progression by end of next season.. Tournament time..

Next year's team will need to be smart about giving him space to work in .. More of a space-eater than AS..
Edit: Clearly will always be a vertical threat as shown this past year..

Hypothetically connecting a few dots here.
Clingans from Bristol. Drew Ghio from Bristol was a walk on long snapper at UConn. Drew’s dad, Bill, has done quite well for himself with owning a region for Dunkin’ in CT and was a pretty good hoopster back in the day.

This appearance could’ve been part of a UConn collective. Dom spends Q time with the kids in New Haven and gets comped for his time. Win win all around

All hypothetical of course

Can one really go "under" when your defender is 6 inches shorter than you most nights?

He's going to have great opportunities this summer like Jordan did last summer, and we saw the jump he made. Should be getting tons of reps with NBA guys.

If I'm Donovan I'm working on
  • Limited 3 ball. Maybe just a basic catch and shoot at the top of the key like Adama had. Nothing fancy, just show he has it in the bag for the draft and to open up the floor a hair for those Castle/Newton/Karaban drives.
  • FT shooting
  • Touch at the rim. When he isn't dunking, his touch isn't great. If he's going to make the jump to a 12-15ppg scorer or more, the difference will be in the ability to make layups (and FTs).
  • S&C (everyone can improve)
  • Get in the film room and do a deep dive into where the foul issues were.

Fair enough on your "under" comment but I do remember a few up fake moves that he took advantage of.. Faking the defender into the air /he did not dunk.. And laid the ball in softly with decent footwork.. Had a McHale vibe to them.. And I realize Kevin was a PF.. Not a 7'3'' dude..

I'm just messing with you. "Up and under" doesn't really mean you need to go under the defend... just up fake and get them to react.

His footwork is decent and improving. When he doesn't rush, hands are soft enough. Patience and finding the right shot (or pass out) will be key.

Of the many skills that he possesses.. I was impressed with his hands.. The strength to take control of the ball and the softness to catch tough passes .. Also helps with touch on passing-which he's very good at as well.
