Cincinnati scores on a passed ball to take the lead. UConn played well for 8 innings, but it has turned into a disastrous game.

Demoralizing loss...
This loss is on Penders. Stayed with Rajkowski one batter too long but why wouldn't you go with your top reliever in the 9th. Saving him for what?

We don't have anyone that reliable out of our pen this year. They all struggle. No excuses, they had their 8th and 9th place batters to start the 9th as well. Even after the slam they couldn't hold them. Susi's horrendous defense continues as he gives up 2 steals and a passed ball. May be time to move Susi to DH and let someone else catch. The loss is inexcusable. The offense still stunk other than 2 big hits by one guy. These are the games you look back on and say what if when they are left out of tourney.

Nightmare Ninth Stuns UConn, 5-4

Notes
  • Since being ranked on April 10, the Huskies are 3-8 and have dropped six of last seven conference games.
  • Isaac Feldstein recorded his 10th multi-RBI game and first four-RBI game of the season.
  • Eight of the 10 UConn hits came from the 2-5 batters in the Husky order (Yahn-Susi-Feldstein-Toppa). Yahn, Susi and Feldstein all recorded multi-hit efforts.
  • John Toppa extended his hit streak to 10 games.

With Toppa and Feldstein finding it at the plate recently, I think it's time we move Stefanski to CF full time. He's an upgrade at the plate and a massive upgrade in fielding.

Also maybe it time to try to get Lefevre some at bats. He's produced in his limited appearances, how about rewarding the kid? It doesn't make sense to DH a freshman batting .211 over a senior batting .273

As Isaid above, why not catch him and DH Susi.

Some changes:

Montgomerie's not pitching. What's up with that? Winkel back in with a righty pitcher going for Cincinnati. The usual back and forth between Stefanski and Krueger in CF. I suspect we will see the same thing between Hill and Moriarty at 2B unless someone goes on a hot streak.

I asked the McGrath about Feole v. Mongomerie and this is the response I got. I'll wait for Chris Jones explanation.

Thanks as well. I believe Chris Jones said that the coaches want to give Montgomerie an extra day and that he may pitch tomorrow. Stay tuned on that one.
I'm a little worried he won't be able to go tomorrow. He was being driven around on the cart by the UConn staff.

Interesting top of the 1st inning. First, Feole channels Anthony Kay and picks off a runner. Then Susi comes up with another pick off later in the inning.

Thought I'd look it up. Before today's game, Susi had 5 passed balls, LeFevre has 2. UConn opponents have 4. UConn pitchers have 42 wild pitches, opponents 24.

4th inning, Susi singles, Feldstein homers to make it 2-1 UConn. Meanwhile, Feole is doing quite nicely on the mound.
