Cincinnati fans are delusional

At the rate the NIL landscape is going and athletes suing to be treated like employees, nobody knows what the landscape of college athletics will be in 10 years or how healthy it will be generally. There might be 50-60 “haves” and 250 “have nots” that might deem it to be too expensive to continue with D1. I’m not sure how healthy a 60 school D1 quasi pro landscape would be. Maybe it would be as good or maybe better than it is now. Or maybe a lot of the country would be turned off by it if their school or region got burned by it and maybe they’ll tune out. We shall see.

Delusional or right? The NEWBIE is all excited about getting $7 million/ team to play at 11 am online and Cincy is getting $40 million. You decide.

Sportsfans care about championships

Dorks hide behind superficial money or admittanace standards arguments

I guess you have to decide, would you rather have your school be in the hunt and compete/win multiple national championships or not be in the hunt and say your school makes 40 Million.

Such a bad take. But you're the king of bad takes. As a fan all I care about is how well the team does on the court. I don't care if the school makes less money. Now if not making a lot of money has a negative effect on the team's performance, then I will change my mind. But despite all your doom and gloom about UConn's economic position the team continues to perform. We'll see what the future holds but for now there's no way I would want to be a fan of Cincinnati instead of UConn.

The Big 12 isn't even worth watching for football without Texas and Oklahoma. Unless you are fans of one of the programs, who is going to watch a Big12 game over an SEC, BIG10 or even and ACC game? I'm a big college football fan but Baylor, Oklahoma St, Kansas St, etc.. are not exactly box office. Good basketball conference though and gets better with Arizona.

I think we’re only seeing the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the ramifications of players as actual employees of these universities. The operational costs are going to be astronomical from an NIL and revenue sharing perspective. Plus if players are getting directly compensated by the universities, they’re no longer amateurs, but paid professionals - making education requirements questionable, as well as the 4-year eligibility rule. It’s essentially transforming into a pro sports league - just with an educational requirement due to college affiliation.

If athletes are viewed as employees, shouldn’t they be allowed the same benefits as standard university employees (i.e. retirement/health benefits, pensions, etc.). How is that line [legally] drawn and who enforces it? The entire situation looks to be leading towards a giant mess that has me quite sad, as 10 years from now college athletics will likely look very different.

For those of us who actually want UConn to win, rather than air grievances and then disappear when we succeed, it's delusional.

The end goal of a program is to win titles. I'm a fan, not a frigging accountant.

When you have n’t won anything and you are staring at a mid conference finish as your absolute ceiling, you have to try and find something to hang your hat on. Every P5 fan base uses the same income difference to try and assure themselves that better times are coming. But, for Cincy, they will never feel what this fanbase has felt during for past two years and it may not be over yet!

Why people spend time online just to be a tool is beyond me. But you have committed to it year after year. If there was a gold metal you would be a 4 time Olympic champ. It’s been debated for years- but I still believe you are a Quse fan.

You're not getting any of that money, why do you care? We're the best program in basketball and win all the championships, it doesn't get better than that.

Cincy blows.
This is part that I don’t get. So the team you root for gets a lot of money. Who cares, it does nothing for you personally. I’d much rather see the team I root for win. That actually brings me happiness.

cinci is concerned if their budget might focus on basketball over football but in same post flexes all the money their basketball program will have compared to the big east basketball programs.
