Christyn signs with Hapoel Rishon Lezion

I have NO idea why Williams has been completely overlooked in the W. Has she been blackballed for some reason? There are at least 10 players in the league I'd put behind CW, and maybe more.

And just take Berger as an example (since she was mentioned by @jerz2atl) - and she's a starter. Practically 0 offense. I can't imagine her defense is better than CW's, or her ball handling. And from an offensive perspective, it's not even close. So why has CW not even gotten a sniff from the W?

Some injuries are slower than others to recover from. Sometimes the mental recuperation has as much to do with later success as the physical side. Seems like a reasonable opportunity for Christyn to work on both.

I agree that some of the 7-day and late season signings can be head scratchers.

After all the rehab she needed to do based on the severity of her injury, IMO her window was limited in the W, based on what they needed and what they saw out there. Here's hoping that she'll get some valuable playing time and experience, and can get a longer look in the W next year. Who knows, maybe she'll be the next Kathryn Westbeld.

Sounds like yet another thing that you don't want to hear from your doctor:

"I'm sorry to have to tell you this but I'm afraid you have a Hapoel Rishon Lesion."

(Congratulations to Christyn.)

She wasn't/hasn't been blackballed. She had a server acl tear before she was able to play 1 game with the Mystics, that had her out of commission for 2 years. She played with Phoenix at the end of the season last year. She was invited to training camp with the Lynx, I belive, this year, but didn't make the teams she was invited to. Hopefully, this will jump start her career and get her back int o the league.

Good for Squeaks! I think it's a low level league, but she's on a team and showing her stuff!
The team plays in Israel where the game is very popular. The name of the team translates to "The First Workers in Zion," which references the early days of the State. Rishon Lezion ("First in Zion") is a city after which the team is named. The games are pretty well coached and played. Christyn may get enough exposure to interest WNBA teams. She is also likely to be better paid over there than in our parsimonious leagues. I'm guessing. Several Israeli women ballers have been drafted by US colleges.
Working and living in the Holy Land will be very exciting for Williams. We wish her well.

One of her teammates on HRL is 6'6' Russian center Anastasiia Boldyreva, who played last year for Middle Tennessee State.

Almost perfect explanation :-) Rishon Le'Zion means "the first of Zion" and it is indeed a nod to some of the first workers' communes from the late 19th Century/early 20th. It is also known as the wine city, due to some high-class wineries that started (and are still going strong there). 20-30 minute drive from Tel Aviv, 40 minutes from Jerusalem, great location, great beaches. The team there is young and athletic, having made it to the league finals last year with a squad that progressed together from juniors to senior teams, a great story. Lost the series after a very tight loss in game 5.
The league does feature several American and European players, most notably Evina Westbrook 😁😁😁 who signed for Hapoel Be'er Sheva (down south in the desert, new and every exciting club) and Dyaisha Fair who signed for Maccabi Haifa up north. All great, great clubs.
