I will now go back into off-season hibernation (this time with sweeter dreams).
Wake me for the next commit.

HAR: funny and clever. You might need some kind of a machine, though, given all those sniffs.

TONY - been thinking for many weeks along the exact same line: "very special player....can flat out play....will be big surprise." Been thinking she will raise alot of eyebrows.
From the tape I've seen, there isn't much she can't do. And am not overly concerned about her build.....(not certain about this, but re somatotype, isn't she kind of like a shorter version of Abrosimova, "Inspector Gidget" (Stother), Cash the Frosh, and many other lean kids who did not play for us but were very, very capable ball players, such as Geno's favorite from L'ville?).

Plus, great teammate and " clearly Connecticut" all around.
One thing that impressed me is when she drove to the basket her quickness, her ability to use either hand, and she finished many times with contact. When you see her play the first question will be how could she be ranked 75th or 35th. IMO shes clearly top 5. Her passing reminds me of Diana. Pin point, and unexpected passes. She will make everybody around her better with her ability to pass and penetrate. Can you tell Im really excited about her. Shes a diamond. BTW shes 5'9-5'10 that's it .

Here’s a LINK to a short article on the LoHud (Lower Hudson) Girls Basketball Blog about Saniya’s selection as the Parade, 2012-2013, Girls, National High School Player of the Year.

And for those who still don’t get it (wherever they may be)…………..Saniya is a great basketball player!............GREAT!

She is highly skilled in every facet of the game:
1…Great shooter from deep, mid and close range (including tear drops with either hand)
2…Great pin point passer from ¾ court to short dishes under the basket….like D used to do, she’ll hit her teammates in the hands and they’ll drop the pass because they weren’t expecting it.
3…Great handle with excellent all court vision (head always up), super crossover and penetrator with either hand and takes contact well.
4…Surprisingly strong rebounder for her slender, 5’9” frame…….Saniya has great hops! …jumped center for her team.
5…Very quick hands and feet……..and also very fast!......averaged 5 steals per game.

I feel like Tony and winlots do………Saniya is going to surprise a lot of UConn fans next year with her offensive........ AND defensive play. I believe Saniya will, at the very least, make a significant contribution to next year’s team by seasons end….and especially if she can steer mostly free of the dreaded “Freshmen Wall / heebie-geebies that seem to affect almost all incoming freshmen to some extent.

Congratulations Saniya on your Parade NPOY award! An honor well earned!

It seems to me that rankings have been wildly inconsistent in recent years and especially for the upcoming classes. They would always vary but not as drastically as I've been noticing lately. Makes me wonder if they are cutting back resources and don't get to evaluate as much or as often as they'd like. This was in my mind even before Chong won the Parade award (after curiously being ranked #75 from Hoopgurlz). I was looking at the recruits we are involved with for 2014 and was puzzled as to how some services had Emark and Williams ranked in the top 10 and Sadie Edwards in the 30's and another service I saw had Edwards ranked in the top 10 ahead of Emark and Williams! Didn't make sense. Than I read some glowing praise about Lexi Gussert and how UConn would love to have her and I look at some of the rankings and couldn't find her in the top 40 anywhere.

It never made any sense to me how Chong could average 35 points A GAME, Geno compared her to Shea Ralph as a frosh in how she scores, and she was ranked no higher than the 30's and #75 in Hoopgurlz. For those saying rankings don't matter, it probably cost Chong a spot on the Mickey D's team. What's the old saying, Do I believe you or my lying eyes?

I've seen a few videos of Chong and she does have a slight build. But, it is about the same as MoJeff. Maybe that is just the way she is built and it seems to work for her. Maybe she will get on some type of nutrition and weight program at UCONN and pick up a few pounds.

How in the world was she not selected to play for Team USA? Looking forward to seeing her play. If she is better than Davis, Russell, DeShields and Harper she is one hell of a player.

She is incredibly muscular, however. Don't underestimate her strength because of the lean frame.

I think that's a keen observation, Ice...Saniya and Moriah both look like the kind of wiry physiques that are loaded with fast-twitch muscle...I suspect they'll surprise everyone in the weight room...not only with how strong they are now, but with how easily they'll build muscle mass...

I expect the same from Gabby Williams, too. Fifteen years ago we saw few kids come through in the physical conditioning we are seeing in many of these kids today.

I'm starting to see why bigs are afraid of the pace UConn can play at...tough running with the greyhounds all day... ;)

Well if I may say Im always positive about UConn recruits, not excited about all of them, that meaning I will not be negative even if I think a recruit may not be as good as advertised. I do that because some recruits I haven't seen and Ive seen Saniya and some recruits I don't know enough about. I know parents, other recruits, and coaches read this board as do other college coaches. So for me I don't want to post anything that might come across as negative as it might hurt future recruiting. Yes I am excited about Saniya. One other point. How can a kid ranked 75th in recruiting services win NPOY? If Diamond DeShields is ranked either 1 or 2 and Saniya is NPOY where should she be ranked. I said in another post top 5 maybe top 2.

AS: Wonder if it is just this simple: some people think asparagus in the spring is a wonderful treat; some people abhor it; perhaps a few are in between; yet it IS asparagus and ever shall be.

I was very surprised when Saniya was named NPOY, but I felt all along that she was much better then her 75TH ranking. I agree 100% with you that we all should never be negative toward recruits.
