Plus CT has the second-highest average income per capita, one of the best public education systems in the country and is one of the most literate and healthy states in the country.

But don't let the facts get in the way of a good illogical taxation rant.

You. Get. What. You. Pay. For.

True, CT schools are great, but Public education in the US sucks... we are showing kids how to put condoms on cucumbers and how not to bully, but teaching kids what they need (like science, math and language skills) we are ranked near the bottom.

Just look at this and I will end this part of the discussion on this topic

  • Between 1996 and 2006 – before the financial meltdown and recession — the number of Connecticut small businesses declined by 2.2 percent, while the average experience of all 50 states was a 10 percent increase. Only Ohio and West Virginia did worse than Connecticut. Its small businesses account for about half of the state’s private sector jobs.
  • Government spending is out of control. Two years ago, Connecticut Governor Dannell P. Malloy signed a $1.8 billion tax hike, the biggest in the state’s history, that supposedly would generate enough. But it wasn’t enough for the next budget, enacted this year. It was balanced mainly with gimmicks like shifting some $6 billion of Medicaid spending off-budget.
  • State Budget Solutions, a think tank monitoring state finances, reported that among the 50 states Connecticut has run up the fourth largest pile of debts per capita — $27,540. This includes unfunded liabilities for government employee pension funds. The total is almost double the per capita debts of financially-strapped California. Higher debts imply higher taxes in the future.
I'm not blaming just the Democrats, I'm going to blame in Democrat-lite in Hartford (aka- the RINOs). I'm also going to blame the voters (especially the people who let the 'discovery' of some miscounted votes (to help elect Malloy) and who think that spending is going to create utopia!), but some of us, had enough of the TAX and spend policies of Hartford. Yes, Florida is not perfect (the public schools sucks here!), but at least I don't give almost 50% of my pay to the state.

CT voters need to wake up and elect people who will not send CT down the path of Greece..

Every single person that reads this website that thinks that socialism is a socioeconomic approach that works, should read that article.

It can change, it requires voters to make good decisions, and this will raise feathers. It requires voters to make decisions on who they vote for, based on making CT a place where business owners want to stay, not leave.

I didn't read the full article, but I can tell you that Connecticut is a very desireable place, for people to move - from a certain perspective. People with families out of country, or out of state, that are looking for state funded aid (free money) are flocking to Connecticut in droves, and we've continually elected people from the bleeding heart side of things, that continue to want to take from the rich and give to the poor, and make state government bigger and responsible for everything, rather than creating jobs and holding people responsible for themselves and their communities.

It doesn't work.

Carl:

even the GOP in CT is left of center....here in Florida the GOP think I'm left of center based on my social views (pro-gay marriage, pro-choice) in CT, I was viewed by the GOP to be RIGHT of Center.

Or couldn't hack it here. A northman requires strength. The weak dribble south.

I could've stayed in CT, but my job went to Florida, so I had to move. I guess I could have told my boss that I quit, but I went to Florida.

I hacked it there, and I do miss most of the state. I moved because my boss moved the company to Fl.

Someone from Florida telling another American how to vote. That's funny. It's not a coincidence that your state's shaped like a limp d ck, HDA.

Point, Whaler11.

There are two words that describe what Connecticut has become:

BUS WAY

that project says it all.

Yea, that is actually only one word ("busway")......

I think the lesson here is that you can't count on words.

MALLOY BUSWAY

Since its in bold AND italics, I guess it must mean something. Although, I am still trying to reverse engineer how the Malloy Busway plays into the season ticket count....

I'll post the whitepaper if I figure it out.

Des just tweeted 23K sold so far.

I would be curious how the mini-plans are going. If they sold 5,000 w/ Michigan and 2,000 w/Maryland they would have effectively sold another 3,500 season tickets. Also, does the 23K include students?

Worse quality of life?? How can you say that??

Life expectancy, literacy, access to healthcare, level of education, income, obesity...but it's warmer, so woohoo, right?

He added on his blog:
"So far, UConn has sold 23,000 season tickets for the 2013 season I’m told today.

Last year, it was 24,000 total.
UConn is about 1,400 season-tickets sold ahead of where it was at this point last year.
August is the athletic department’s big push month in selling tix so we!ll see what happens.

The Top of the Rent ticket sales, $140 beans for seven home games? Those have been selling well.

The school has had about 1,300 of those tickets to sell since that promotion started a few years back.

The school says there are now 200 of those left. They’ve never sold this well."

BTW, 23,000 season tickets should be a cold slap to the face of the athletic department that you cannot parade chicken as chicken salad.

Even with MICHIGAN on the schedule, they're 1,000 season tickets below 2012. That's incredible. I'm almost impressed.

EDIT- with Des' added context (something never previously said in human history), they are closer to break-even than falling behind. It's still below what is a reasonable expectation for a school clamoring to show its at a big-boy level. I love the creative plans, but it still ticks me off that it took this long for them to really push them aggressively across social media/mainstream.

For the best home schedule ever- not particularly impressive so far.

Top of the rent selling well is indicative that tickets are priced too high in other sections for a team coming off back to back 5-7's.

Aug is when we sell a large chunk of season ticket. We are doing very well and still think we will hit 30k.

Ding ding ding ding

It's a dangerous game, though. You could recognize that the fan base has been through the friggin wringer between conference realignments and bad football by cutting prices, but then you just widen the income gap between yourself and SU and eventually RU...
