I don't have a horse in this race (and would have had no problem if all three of Miami, ND & Bama were left out, but your question leads me to a counter question.

Why should strength of losses be more important than strength of victories?

I didn’t say that it was, please show me I did. I simply stated that if the ND loss was suddenly so important then why not look at Bama, they got beat by a horrible team not even in the discussion. Simple question right?

I mean it all comes down to, and by the way the ESPN guys all said the same thing, how can you be 1-2 slots ahead of Miami by their count for 5 weeks and not play the weekend they choose, yet they jump in front of them for no apparent reason? It’s not that hard to know they fd up.

While the concept of not penalizing a team for playing in its conference championship seems fair, I don't think the committee can ignore Alabama getting completely steamrolled. That was an embarrassing showing that should take them out of consideration IMHO.

How is it fair. In the NCAA the winner gets the bid.

In the end it's a win for college football. Join a conference. They would have won the Big 12 or ACC

ND went on the road for the 1st game of the year which is always a challenge. In addition, the game was in August in Miami with oppressive heat an humidity. They lost by 3. It would be interesting to see an ND-Miami game is South Bend in late November. They both played a comparatively weak schedule vs the B1G and SEC, except for the ND's 1 point loss the Texas A&M. In my view, ND is probably the better team. However, I like to see ND get the short end on occasion.

ND gets a shot at Miami in November in 2026. Given ND's schedule next year, they should have an easy road to the playoff. Along w/ Miami, they have Wisconsin, Rice, Michigan St., UNC, SMU, Syracuse, Navy, Stanford, BC, and USC. With only 3 real "away" games. 7 home, 2 Neutral and 3 away.

No. The best win in college football this year is Indiana beating Ohio State. The second best win is either Indiana winning at Oregon or Texas A&M winning at Notre Dame. The only reason most people think otherwise is because of the SEC/Georgia mystique, which is still greatly contributing to people's perception of that win. Georgia is a really good team this year, but far from the juggernaut they've been in past years.

What ND win is within shouting distance of Bama beating Georgia at Georgia?

Bama also has three additional wins over ranked teams (Tennessee, Missouri, Vandy), ND has two (USC, Pitt) Both of ND's are ranked below any of Bama's top 25 wins.

Depending on how you define shouting distance, USC. They were a really good team that almost certainly would have been in the playoff if not for the loss to Notre Dame. It's not as good a win as Bama's, especially because Bama's was on the road, but it's not some massive schism like ESPN would have you believe. I'll grant you that Vandy is significantly better than anyone else Notre Dame has beaten.

But that's besides the point. Bama being in the playoff over Notre Dame really isn't all that controversial - in a vacuum. It's not until you start comparing them to teams like BYU that the bias becomes obvious.

I don't want to get into an argument about this. You aren't one of the posters who continually alters an argument, I believe for the most part we have the same gripe (that the committee manipulates their rankings to serve their desires), I personally don't view the outcome as something to get worked up over as I don't believe that any of Miami, ND or Alabama would have had any legitimate argument if they didn't make it.

I responded to Champs9904 who claimed ND had comparable wins. You then responded by pointing our Bama's FSU loss. Please tell me how my response on whether strength of losses should be more important than strength of victories wasn't applicable.

A few things…

1. I’m glad one of ND or the ACC got screwed here. Was hoping it would be the ACC but I’ll take ND as a consolation prize. I don’t know if any of this will play a role in our future in this landscape but I love seeing the conference who is too stupid to see the logic in adding us and the school who thinks they’re better than everyone else get in a situation where one gets screwed.

2. I’m glad the committee stuck to what their job was. They could have easily stuck in all three of Bama, ND, and Miami and made idiots like Kannel happy. They didn’t and good for them. It’s good for the health of CFB that it’s possible for more than one team outside the P4 to make it. It’s likely never going to happen again but this sport is on life support for a lot of people outside of the SEC and B1G. It’s becoming minor leagues and everyone knows it. It’s good to see that other teams are given a chance.

3. Now that my second point is made, these G5 teams need to show up and prove that they deserved to be there. They can’t get blown out. They need to silence the critics.

I agree about not getting blown out. I mean we can’t have teams losing 38-10 or 42-27 like last year. Oh WAIT, that was SMU (ACC) and Tennessee (SEC). But that doesn’t really matter. P4 schools get held to a different standard.

Wasnt their comparative SOS separated by a lot? I thought I saw Bama was like top 5 or something and NDs was in the 40s. But like I said in another post - I dont care about any of the cartel members which include both Bama and ND. I love whenever there's a slight to any of them and they lose their minds. ND is especially delicious because of their former ties to the Big East.

I’m done and agree. We don’t care about any of this crap like we do our Huskies so I’m out of this it’s over, nothing we can do no matter. Agree to disagree but we have bigger fish to fry (gators), let’s move on 😉

The other ranking adjustment (or lack thereof) that went a bit undiscussed. Texas A&M vs. Ole Miss. Both teams are 11-1, Ole Miss's loss is a "stronger loss" to Georgia, while A&M's is to Texas.... however, missing key players or staff is a factor to be considered in the seedings.

Ole Miss lost no ground despite missing its Head Coach. End result Ole Miss gets a first round matchup/rematch with a team it beat by 35; A&M gets Miami
