Predictions
  • Indiana #1
  • Texas will be much higher and ND much lower than their AP rankings

IU and Ohio State on a collision course to play for Big Ten Championship in Indianapolis

Must be relying a lot on eye test because Indianas resume is stronger than Ohiost .

And ND over Texas? Nd has better losses but who have they beaten?

.-.
So #14 UVA moves up to the #11 CFP slot and Memphis to the #12 CFP slot. The ACC and The AC have their advantages.
UVA making the CFP will cause the following,
  • get ACC head coaches fired - FSU, Clemson, and Miami.
  • SEC and the BIG demanding for more guaranteed slots.

UVA has been an opportunistic team and in all likelihood will get boat raced if they make the CFP

How are we not in the list? Just another rigged jury!!
Great to see Clemson (3-5, 2-4 ACC) and FSU (4-4, 1-4 ACC) doing so well. Are they still getting paid extra to prop up Virginia and Georgia Tech's records?

Can someone explain UConn’s path to CFP?
I thought I read somewhere that UConn can’t make the CFP. Not specifically this year but in General.

If we’re the highest ranked G5, would we qualify?

Automatic bids are given to the 5 highest ranked conference champions, so as an independent without a conference to win we are not eligible for an automatic bid, including the "G5 Bid". UConn would have to earn an at large bid the same way Notre Dame does by being ranked in the top 12/11 in CFP rankings.

With my tinfoil hat I do think if UConn had been undefeated this year and still outside the top 12, the committee would have figured out a loophole to give UConn the "G5 Bid" to avoid the outrage of leaving out an undefeated while also limiting the number of non P4 brands in the playoff.

It depends on how high we are ranked. Currently the G5 autobid goes to the highest ranked conference champion. If we're ranked top 10 then it's possible. Especially if all conference champions are ranked top 12.

We can only make it as an at large, which would require not only an exceptional regular season, but also some good fortune where there won't be enough P level schools to fill out all of the at large spots.

In most years there are at least two conference champs (this year it is ACC and G5 conference champ) that are not in the top 12. So that means UConn would have to be a top 10 ranked team. I think next years schedule if UConn goes undefeated they would have a chance to make the CFP. I think this years schedule was to weak based on SOS even if UConn went undefeated.

Thanks. Didn’t realize G5 was conference champ only.
So UConn has a path, just get into Top 10 ranking….

I don't think G5 is conference champ only. The 5 highest-ranked conference champions receive an automatic bid and then the rest are at large. It just works out that all the at large bids go to the P4.

So I think in theory, you could have conference champions from Big Ten, SEC, Big XII, American, and Sunbelt if the ACC was complete garbage. Then a second program from the American could get in if say North Texas and Tulane were both Top 10. I could be wrong though.

Yes that could happen. If Duke had won the ACC this year (low probability now with loss to UVA) the ACC champion could have been lower rated than two G5 conference champs. It is the top 5 ranked conference champions. No special treatment to the P4.

Up to #45 in CBS rankings and #47 in ESPN rankings. Thats pretty damn amazing. Don’t think we can climb much higher maybe a few slots if some teams take Ls this week. But, you have to be darn satisfied after a decade plus of misery and it proves without a doubt we can hang just fine in a power conference like the B12 or ACC. In fact, with a few years of build, we’d be competitive in the B1G (and a heck of a lot better than Ruterds).

Alabama doesn't deserve to be in the playoffs. I said what I said.
They are sort of a weird case. They have probably the best win in Georgia, and definitely the worst loss in FSU. They definitely can't afford a loss to Auburn though.

Given the winner of ACC and G5 conference champs will not be in the top 12 means only teams ranked 10 or lower that do not win their conference will make the CFP. The interesting one to me is Michigan. If Michigan beat OSU (assuming they will beat Maryland) then they will go to the BIG10 championship to face Indiana. Michigan could sneak into the playoffs and they have the history of beating OSU.

There will be quite a few 2 loss teams that will be competing for places in the CFP. My guess SEC and BIG will get all the non conference champ spots except for ND.

I'm kind of interested to see what happens with Oregon. They don't have any win that really seems to stand out, and it doesn't seem crazy to imagine them dropping one of these last two games.

I think there will be quite a few 2 loss teams so I do not see a 3 loss team getting in unless they win their conference.

I agree for sure. Oklahoma and Alabama can't drop a game in my opinion, and no matter what some people think, I can't see Texas getting in even if they beat A&M. I still think there will be some crazy stuff that happens before it is all over, just because there always is.

As predicted, no respect for James Madison. ACC got a huge ranking boost while AAC gets slandered to only one team. No North Texas.

These rankings are just a continuation of the popularity contest that the only polls were. The guy said they have ND, Miami, and Alabama all ranked together in what they call a cluster. Miami beat ND, beat FSU who Alabama lost to, yet is ranked behind them. It would be better if they just came out and said they want ND and SEC teams in there.

Bama has a better win. I agree that ND should be behind Miami but that's also on Miami for losing to Louisville at home.

Miami moving up is meaningless. It is literally impossible for Miami to make ACC championship game. The ACC conference champion will probably be either SMU or Virginia - neither ranked in top 12. I assume Pitt will lose to Miami.
