CFP Rankings

The four P4 champions should be auto-bids just like NCAA basketball. No politics. You win, you're in.

Then they should pick the next best 8 teams. If Duke steals the auto-bid it upsets the bubble. If you don't like it, don't be on the bubble.

That is the most fun and it gives Cinderella a ticket to the ball. I mean isn't eveyone sick of Alabama at this point.

I think Bama playing in their conference championships will give them the edge.

They also had a stronger schedule and better wins

Bama and ND get in. That's how I'm calling it
While the concept of not penalizing a team for playing in its conference championship seems fair, I don't think the committee can ignore Alabama getting completely steamrolled. That was an embarrassing showing that should take them out of consideration IMHO.

If you lose 3 games, one to a 5-7 team, you don't get to complain if you're left out. Whining about losing a CCG, doesn't work unless you aren't dropping OSU, BYU, or UVA, who all lost and are going to be dropped in the rankings.

If you lose head to head to the team which your being compared and have no real quality wins, you don't get to complain if you're left out.

Miami has the fewest warts, but because the ACC screwed up by having a tiebreaker worthy of 1985 the entite conference could get left out completely, I won't shed a single tear.

The correct answer is Miami and ND for the last two spots, but it could easily be Miami and Alabama because ND has no friends and the SEC sticks together, and I wouldn't shed a single tear.

Bama and ND is the only travesty here.

-3 rush yards in that game.

OSU, BYU, UVA, will be dropped in the rankings, why is Bama untouchable? Just because it has the biggest consequence?

Even if you discount the yards lost to sacks (-28), you end up with 10 rushes for 25 yards. Longest run from scrimmage was 5 yards. That's pathetic.

I think Notre Dame and Alabama beat Miami. Both are much bigger draws than the Hurricanes. And at the end of the day this is a made for tv event. If there were no tv there would be no cfp

If that's the reasoning, then it's a fair system, but I think the committee will favor the SEC.

Note that they bumped Bama up a spot in the rankings. I think this was to give them a cushion should they lose in the conference game, which they did, so the drop still left them ahead of Miami which could not rise in rankings since they had no game

You mean other than not making the CCG of a league that has 8-5 Duke as its champion?

The Csnes have 2 losses in a crummy conference. No one seems to mention that.
The Canes did something Bama didn't - beat Florida State.

Bama's last few games have been less than inspiring, but it's Bama, so ....

Today is a great day.

Hurricanes in.

Irish OUT.

The committee got it right-Miami will probably lose to A&M but the entertainment value will be 1,000,000 times better. Hopefully they pull an '87 Orange Bowl and show up in battle fatigues or some such nonsense.

I'm no Irish fan, but Notre Dame is clearly a better football team than Alabama. Clearly. Especially based on how they're playing right now. Bama lost to a pedestrian Oklahoma team at home and was very fortunate to beat Auburn.

"You can't punish a team for playing in the conference championship."

Tell that to BYU. Or the 2017 Auburn team that Bama jumped from sitting on their couch championship weekend.

"Bama earned their way into a conference championship game."

No they didn't. They won a stupid, arbitrary tiebreaker over two teams they didn't play.

I'd marvel at the committee's ability to get it wrong every year, but it's not getting it wrong. It has an agenda. Five SEC teams is obscene. This isn't the SEC from 15 years ago. It's OOC performance was extremely underwhelming. ESPN found a way to get both of their properties in (SEC & ACC) and stick it to Notre Dame.

In the end it's a win for college football. Join a conference. They would have won the Big 12 or ACC

Ask the conferences if they want ND to join one and I bet they all vote no — because they don’t want ND joining a competitor.

Mixed emotions on this.

ND getting screwed maybe tells them to get in a conference, which could possibly help us down the line. But they deserved to be in.

Miami getting in, even though the ACC really doesn't deserve a representative, tells me that the P4 is really trying hard to protect the "P4" branding. (Remember before the expansion when "you have to win your conference" arguments were keeping SEC teams in with 2 losses?).

Which brings me to Alabama, which is the team I would have left out but... you know...SEC runs college football...

Unless ND is consistently a 0 or 1 loss team, they will probably always be in this position if they are ranked anywhere b/w 9-12 in all the ranking lists.

Basically Notre Dame has to go undefeated or maybe lose 1 game to have a chance

Trust me, if Notre Dame wants to join any conference, they're in
Yes of course
I meant “do the conferences want ND to join one.” No, unless it’s theirs.
